Music Composition
Contest
How to Enter
Adhere to the requirements for difficulty level, length, and
instrumentation composition available at apumusiccontest.com.
You may enter one piece in each of two different categories.
You must submit a separate application for each piece,
including your signature and that of your parent or guardian
if you are under age 18 on the date of submission.
While handwritten scores will be accepted, you are strongly
encouraged to use a computer-based notation system in
preparing the score and parts, following conventional standards
of music notation and part/score preparation. You must submit
a recording or demo of your composition (this may be the audio
output of your software).
Do not include your name directly on the score. Scores showing
the name of the composer will be disqualified. Judges for the
contest will not know the names of, or any information about,
the composers. Do not include parts in your submission, only
the score. If you win, you will need to provide a full set of parts
at that time.
To enter, you must be a high school junior or senior
as of January 4, 2016. Applications are available at
apumusiccontest.com.
Be sure to complete and sign the application. If you are under
age 18 on the submission date, your parent’s or guardian’s
signature is required. Incomplete applications or those without
necessary signatures will not be accepted. Please identify
a school administrator who can verify your student status.
You may submit entries by email or mail. To submit by email,
scan the completed application and email it, along with a PDF
of your score and an mp3 of your recording or demo, to
musiccontest@apu.edu. Email submissions must be submitted
by 11:59 p.m. PST on January 4, 2016.
Mailed submissions must be postmarked before 11:59 p.m.
PST on January 4, 2016. Please mail the application, two
copies of your score, and two audio CDs of a performance
or demo in a single large envelope to:
