undiscovered scuba diving location in your back yard. Lake Thurmond,
in western South Carolina, is one of the largest inland bodies of water
east of the Mississippi River with a shoreline of 1,200 miles covering
71,100 acres.

DIRECTIONS TO VISITORS’ CENTER
FROM ATLANTA
1. Head east on I-20 E.
2. Take exit 183 for US 221 toward Appling/Harlem.
3.Turn left onto GA-47 W/US-221 N.
4.After 3.7 miles, turn right to stay on GA-47 W/US-221 N. Continue
on this road for 12.1 miles. The Thurmond Lake & Visitor Center will
be on the left.
FROM COLUMBIA
1. Head west on I-20 W.
2. Take exit 1 for S Carolina 230 N/W Martintown Rd and turn right.
3.After 5.6 miles, turn left onto Woodlawn Rd. Continue for 7.5 miles.
4.Turn right onto SC-28 W and continue for 4.4 miles.
5.Turn left onto US-221-S. After 1.3 miles, the Thurmond Lake &
Visitor Center will be on the right.
Park at the lower parking area of the Thurmond Lake & Visitor
Center. Hours of operation: 8 am to 4:30 pm, 7 days a week.
Restrooms/changing area located inside the Visitor Center are
available to all visitors until the center closes.
Divers can also dive from their boats. Launch boats from one
of the multiple ramps located near one of the campsites listed
below.
