Steeped in Tradition to Create Something New
Inspired by the vision of an innovative company, though rich in
tradition, Georg Stradiot founded the Wiener Silber Manufactur
in 2008, a brand whose roots go back to 1882.
DESIGN
Wiener Silber Manufactur has an archive of 11,000 original
designs, including works of masters of the Wiener Werkstätte
such as Josef Hoffmann, Kolo Moser, Otto Prutscher and Oswald
Haerdtl. It was in their creative period that Vienna became the
artistic and intellectual centre of Europe.
Wiener Silber Manufactur reissues original designs, including
masterpieces like Josef Hoffmann's revolutionary cutlery No. 135
from 1902, or a sugar bowl designed by Kolo Moser, which
Gustav Mahler gave to his wife Alma on their first Christmas Eve
together in 1902.
In cooperation with national and international contemporary
designers like Thomas Feichtner, Tino Valentinitsch, Rainer Scharf,
Claesson–Koivisto–Rune, Marco Dessi or Tomás Alonso, all of
whom have a worldwide reputation, Wiener Silber Manufactur
brings out state-of-the-art design of the highest quality.
Silver
Wiener Silber Manufactur uses a special alloy that contains 94%
by mass of silver (Sterling silver, by comparison, only contains
92.5% of silver). The high value of raw materials ensures that the
product value will increase over the years. In addition, the silverware is exceptionally easy to clean, since it is dishwasher-proof
and extremely resistant to tarnishing.

Craftsmanship
Apart from the high quality of silver, exquisite craftsmanship is the
main quality criterion. In fact every piece of the Wiener Silber Manufactur product range, which includes cutlery, tea sets, candelabra,
bowls etc., is produced by hand in the south of Vienna.
Teamwork
With a staff of 20 highly qualified members, including three
master silversmiths, Wiener Silber Manufactur has a team of
specialists who are deeply committed to producing the finest
of silverware.
Hallmark
Every product that leaves our house is adorned with a four-leaf
clover, the symbol and hallmark of Wiener Silber Manufactur.
The four-leaf clover is also available as a lovely little pendant.
Delivery Times
Most of the products shown in the catalog are in stock and can
be delivered immediately. In case of special orders, delivery time
is approximately 6 weeks.

Everyone is warmly welcome to visit the exquisite Wiener Silber
Manufactur Shop at Spiegelgasse 14, in Vienna's first district,
where architect Michael Embacher made sure only the finest
materials were used. The clever color concept, technical equipment and a sophisticated combination of historical and contemporary forms create a wonderful atmosphere that reflects the soul of
Wiener Silber Manufactur.

Josef Hoffmann's famous cutlery No. 135 was designed a year
before the founding of the Wiener Werkstätte. It marked a revolution in the history of silverware, since it involved a departure from
historicism in favor of clear lines, an uncompromising allegiance
to functionality.
The original sets were produced for the Kohn, Wittgenstein and
Mautner Markhof families. Today, we treasure the original dies
as some of our most priceless possessions. They are used when
special people are looking for something exceptional – for
products of pure perfection.

This richly rounded set of cutlery was designed by Otto Prutscher
in the 1930s. The slightly curved upper face of the handles is
characteristic of his work from the 1930s. The contrast between
the soft organic forms and the material's shimmering hardness
constitutes this pattern's particular appeal. The pieces rest solidly
and comfortably in the hand.

32 Purity of form is the particular feature of Otto Prutscher's cutlery.
This early masterpiece of Viennese Art Deco is clearly in the
tradition of Josef Hoffmann, but is also imbued with the spirit of a
new age. The handles appear to be lined by a thread that runs
along the edges. While in the forks and spoons the thread stops
just before the bottom of the handles, it runs all around the bottom
ends of the knives' rounded handles. The understated elegance of
this design is absolutely timeless.

The advent of espresso in the 1950s brought new life to Vienna's
coffeehouse scene. Inspired by the light-heartedness of the Italian way of life, architect Oswald Haerdtl designed the interiors
of numerous cafés in the style of the time, including the famous
Arabia Espresso at Vienna's Kohlmarkt. The design of his cutlery
reflects the positive, buoyant mood of the epoch. Its fine, deeply
engraved fluting quotes from classical forms of decoration and is
enriched by contemporary Italian influences.

The "Cutt" cutlery set is exemplary of Thomas Feichtner's experimental approach. Designed in 2006, it challenges the functional
and ergonomic requirements on cutlery, and yet it surprises with its
functionality once it gets used. Individual surfaces folded to shape
a bowl-like cavity turn out to be the body of the spoon or fork.
The set was initially manufactured on a small scale by Wiener
Silber Manufactur; meanwhile "Cutt" has found its way into various
cutlery and design collections.

Vienna's Schönbrunn Palace was eponymous for this pattern.
Forms inspired by the Baroque introduced the glory and grandeur
of the imperial court to the dining tables of the upper middle class.
Today this pattern remains an expression of the joyous celebration
of dining; it embodies luxury and classiness, the joie de vivre of
an epoch.

The "Hofburg" cutlery is a modernized version of a design that
was used by the Imperial family until 1918. It was initially produced in 1881 for the Prague residence of Crown Prince Rudolf
and his newly-wed wife Stéphanie of Belgium. In 1902, Stéphanie
commissioned silver manufacturer Alexander Sturm to produce a
new set for the wedding of her daughter, Archduchess Elisabeth.
Until today, "Hofburg" has been the official state cutlery of the
Czech Republic. And it is still used in Austrian embassies throughout the world.

In 1606, Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau had Mirabell Palace in Salzburg built as a gift for his true love, Salome
Alt. The romance of this story is reflected in the "Mirabell" pattern.
With trefoil ends to the handles and encircling grooves, it borrows from the sensuous lines of the Baroque.

The "Geigenkasten" cutlery, named after the violin shape of the
handle, is one of our most traditional silver tableware patterns.
Its form and functionality were already highly appreciated in the
Baroque era, when a refined dining etiquette required that the
spoon and fork be held with three dainty fingers. In the 1970s,
the concept was revived by adapting the pattern to suit modern
ways of dining. This cutlery is a "must have" on any wedding gift
list. It harmonizes extremely well with any china service and offers
a sufficiently large area to engrave coats of arms or monograms.

The gentle elegance of the "Wiener Wamperl" ("Viennese pot-belly") exudes the cheery functionality of Biedermeier culture. Empress
Elisabeth chose this cutlery in 1895 for her Kammermeierei (private
dairy farm) in Schönbrunn, and Emperor Franz Joseph I had it set
in various hunting lodges until 1918. Berndorf-based Arthur Krupp
used this pattern to manufacture cutlery in the newly developed
German silver (alpacca). Today, we produce this typical Biedermeier cutlery in solid silver. Its austerity makes it harmonize with
any place setting or ambiance and look more modern than many
a contemporary set.

When Empress Elisabeth was residing at the legendary Achilleion, her summer palace on the Greek island of Corfu, the table
was laid with this cutlery. Its form is a variation on the "Wiener
Wamperl"; it derives its name from the prominent ridge along
the handle that gives this pattern its unmistakable appearance.
"Eselsrücken" is a functional and aesthetically pleasing Biedermeier
cutlery pattern that has always been one of the most popular
models in our classic range.

With a shell-shaped, finely perforated bowl and an imperial
crown engraved on the handle, the "Sisi" sugar sprinkler is a
masterpiece of the silversmith's craft. Along with the "Wiener
Wamperl" this sifting spoon formed part of Sisi's silverware at
the Kammermeierei dairy in Schönbrunn.

What composer Gustav Mahler had in mind as a Christmas
present for his young wife Alma was a silver box, adorned with
corals, so he had it designed by Kolo Moser and manufactured
by Alexander Sturm. It became a Christmas present that was
nothing less than a love declaration in the shape of a silver box.
Today, Moser's original draft is in our archives, where it serves
as a reference for our beautiful, hand-made sugar box.

What composer Gustav Mahler had in mind as a Christmas
present for his young wife Alma was a silver box, adorned with
corals, so he had it designed by Kolo Moser and manufactured
by Alexander Sturm. It became a Christmas present that was
nothing less than a love declaration in the shape of a silver box.
Today, Moser's original draft is in our archives, where it serves as

The "Viennese Pot" is defined by edges that have an effect of
dynamics instead of making the pot look heavy and bulky. The
tapered spout seems to almost make the teapot tip over, but the
handle made of Swiss pine provides counterbalance. The sophisticated handle, which is actually a continuation of two surfaces,
allows perfect one-handed pouring without spilling.

Thomas Feichtner's "Fruit Bowl" has in fact nothing in common
with the round objects you normally put fruits on. Instead, it is
a sophisticated interplay of internal and external surfaces. It appears as if the fruit might fall out through the openings in the legs,
but it actually gets wedged and is thus caught. This is both an
intended irritation and the most significant functional element
of the fruit bowl.

The "Cutt" cutlery set is exemplary of Thomas Feichtner's experimental approach. Designed in 2006, it challenges the functional
and ergonomic requirements on cutlery, and yet it surprises with its
functionality once it gets used. Individual surfaces folded to shape
a bowl-like cavity turn out to be the body of the spoon or fork.
The set was initially manufactured on a small scale by Wiener
Silber Manufactur; meanwhile "Cutt" has found its way into various
cutlery and design collections.

A clever design by young designer Marco Dessi: "Frame" not
only combines two different geometric figures – the circle and
the square – but also two materials, namely silver and (colored)
Perspex. To facilitate washing this piece, the silver frame can be
easily detached. An object that is both striking and great fun!
"Frame" was created for the context of the WIEN PRODUCTS
Collection 2011 and was chosen by the press as its favorite piece.

Those who know Thomás Alonso, whose design often looks like
light, three-dimensional drafts made of simple wood, probably
won't associate his work with silver. This made our collaboration
for the Vienna Design Week 2011 all the more fascinating.
True to the motto "functionality of the pattern", Alonso designed this
plain tea service with a fluted pattern on the underside of the set
and on the upper side of the tray so as to make them engage with
each other. The set looks witty, yet at the same time harmonious.

The Vindobona Collection is the result of a collaboration between
Wiener Silber Manufactur and J. & L. Lobmeyr for the Vienna
Design Week 2010. In creating this series of vases, the aim
of Swedish architect and designer trio Claesson–Koivisto–Rune
was to produce design icons of the dining culture. In fact the
process of manufacture was very ambitious too, for it required
the utmost skill from the silversmiths, the glass blowers and all
engravers involved.

formal language: it consists of three rows of little humps that reflect

This sculptural centerpiece is made to an early design by Josef
Hoffman. Its pure, long-legged physique and the smooth surface
of its base are revolutionary. Its only adornment consists of four
semiprecious stones. Designed in 1902, this centerpiece became
a major work of 20 th century Viennese design. It is available in
different heights, with malachites, lapis lazuli or onyx stones.

Josef Hoffmann's famous cutlery No. 135 was designed a year
before the founding of the Wiener Werkstätte. It marked a revolution in the history of silverware, since it involved a departure from
historicism in favor of clear lines, an uncompromising allegiance
to functionality.
The original sets were produced for the Kohn, Wittgenstein and
Mautner Markhof families. Today we treasure the original dies as
some of our most priceless possessions. They are used when special people are looking for something exceptional – for products
of pure perfection.

Josef Hoffmann
JOSEF HOFFMANN (Pirnitz 1870–1956 Vienna)
Josef Hoffmann's ideal was the Gesamtkunstwerk, an all-embracing artwork. He united – and impersonated – art, architecture,
craftsmanship and design. In 1903, together with his like-minded
colleague Kolo Moser, Hoffmann founded the Wiener Werkstätte.
They designed the Purkersdorf Sanatorium and the Stoclet House
in Brussels, two masterpieces of the Wiener Moderne. Our archives contain many groundbreaking drawings by Josef Hoffmann.
Designs like his landmark pattern No. 135 are among the most
popular in our range.

Kolo Moser
KOLO MOSER (Vienna 1868–1918)
Like Josef Hoffmann, painter, graphic artist and craftsman Kolo
Moser was greatly inspired by the English Arts and Crafts Movement, which was the first to propagate the idea of the total work
of art. He was the co-founder of both the Wiener Secession and
the Wiener Werkstätte, for which he designed mostly furniture,
lamps and fashion accessories. At Gustav Mahler's request, Kolo
Moser designed a magnificent little casket, which Mahler gave
to his wife Alma. We still produce this masterpiece today after
Moser's original draft.

Otto Prutscher
OTTO PRUTSCHER (Vienna 1880–1949)
Otto Prutscher, a student of Josef Hoffmann, was one of the most
influential personalities in early 20 th century architecture. As an
architect, his name remains inseparably linked to Red Vienna's
housing complexes. He also worked as a designer for Kohn
manufacturers of bentwood furniture and the Wiener Werkstätte.
Prutscher has left an extensive collection of drawings for silver
cutlery, tea and coffee services, candlesticks and other silverware accessories, which is preserved in our archives. Wiener
Silber Manufactur is now producing some of the highlights of
his design work, including his famous "Pumpkin" service from
the 1930s.

Oswald Haerdtl
OSWALD HAERDTL (Vienna 1899–1959)
Oswald Haerdtl studied under Kolo Moser and worked together
with Josef Hoffmann. He was one of the key Austrian architects
and designers of the inter-war and post-war periods. His magnum
opus is the Wien Museum on Karlsplatz. Apart from furniture,
lamps, chinaware and glasses, Haerdtl also designed cutlery and
objects made of silver. Wiener Silber Manufactur has reissued his
pattern No. 192 and a martelé dish. Many of Haerdtl's original
design drafts are preserved in our archives.

Thomas Feichtner
THOMAS FEICHTNER
Thomas Feichtner (born in 1970) has won various international design awards such as the IF Design Award, the Swiss Design Prize,
the German Design Prize, the red dot design award, the European
Design Award and the Josef Binder Award. His work focuses on
artistic aspects and takes an experimental approach. Feichtner
designs products for traditional crafters but always tries to look at
things from an unconventional perspective. Wiener Silber Manufactur produces his "Cutt" cutlery.

Sebastian Menschhorn
SEBASTIAN MENSCHHORN
Sebastian Menschhorn (born in 1971) studied under Paulo Piva
and Toshiyuki Kita at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
With a profound knowledge of the history of culture and art he
translates patterns, forms and functions into design objects and
graphics. His contemporary, yet timeless designs are thus rooted
in history but nevertheless tell new stories.

Rainer Scharf
RAINER SCHARF
Rainer Scharf (born 1970) opened his studio 24hdesign in Vienna
in 2003. He was Senior Designer at Philips Design and worked
for Audi and KTM . Rainer Scharf lives in London and designs consumer electronics and furniture, as well as interiors for airlines and
shops for the design studio forpeople. For Wiener Silber Manufactur he designed the Turkish coffee pot "Cezve", a contribution to
the WIEN PRODUCTS Collection 2010.

Tino Valentinitsch
TINO VALENTINITSCH
Tino Valentinitsch (born in 1972) studied industrial design in
Essen, Germany. During his studies he worked in Milan for Aldo
Cibic, co-founder of "Memphis", and drew designs for Koziol. In
addition to his work for the avant-garde sportswear label Y-3 he
has also designed perfume bottles for Versace, as well as shoes,
bags and home accessories for Helmut Lang. Since he has been
working for the New York-based agency Pandiscio Co., Tino
Valentinitsch focuses on the fields of luxury products and brand
design. He creates brands, designs furniture, consumer goods
and packaging, as well as interiors and exhibitions. For Wiener
Silber Manufactur, Tino Valentinitsch designed the "Lockenschale"
("Curls Bowl") in 2011.

Claesson, Koivisto, Rune
MåRTEN CLAESSON, EERO KOIVISTO, OLA RUNE
Since 1995, Mårten Claesson, Eero Koivisto and Ola Rune have
been working under a joint Stockholm-based label. In addition to
their architectural projects they produce designs for manufacturers
such as Cappellini and iittala. The Vindobona series, which was
a joint project with Wiener Silber Manufactur and glass producer
J. & L. Lobmeyr, was presented on the occasion of the VIENNA
DESIGN WEEK 2010. The trio has received numerous awards
and honors. For instance, they were the first Swedish architects to
be shown in the international category at the Venice Architecture
Biennale (2004).

Marco Dessi
Marco Dessi
After an apprenticeship in the technical field, Marco Dessí (born
1976 in Merano, Italy) studied industrial design at the University
of Applied Arts Vienna. Some of his student projects already
drew international attention.
In 2007 Marco Dessí founded his own design studio. His approach of tinkering with shapes and possibilities until they feel
light and intuitive again, leads to products that suggest both the
radically contemporary and aesthetic longevity.
We produce his "Frame" tray, designed for the WIEN PRODUCTS
Collection 2011.

Tomás Alonso
Tomás Alonso
Tomás Alonso, born in Vigo, Spain, in 1974, graduated from
the Royal College of Art in London. In 2006 he co-founded the
design collective OKAYstudio with five other recent graduates
from the RCA .
His work has been widely published and exhibited, from Aram
Gallery or Whitechapel Gallery in London to exhibitions in Italy,
Spain, France, Canada and Japan. His work is part of the permanent collection of the Design Museum in London. He has also
received numerous international awards including the first prize in
the Promosedia International Design Competition 2008 with his
"chair No. 7".
Our coorporation with Tomás Alonso for VIENNA DESIGN WEEK
2011 yielded a wonderful silver tea service.
