The harsh winter weather is still not done in the Netherlands... Where is the Spring??? There is no snow, but
the strong easterly winds makes it feels very cold outside. So no fun! Because of the low temperatures the
supply of Dutch flowers is still not up to normal levels for this time of the year. To get into a good mood, this
edition is dedicated to the trend “All Positive”: positivity by the energetic color of orange flowers. Enjoy your
week!

the color, Astilbe ensures a warm atmosphere in
every bouquet.

The average price of Tulips is still very high for
this time of the year. With the combination of
a huge demand and less supply, the market
had little time to relax. This was due to the cold
weather and the fact that the holidays were very
close together this year.
I expect prices will go down after Easter. The
range of Tulips will also become wider, there
will be more fun varieties and novelties on the
market than at this moment. Regarding other
flowers: finally we see that most prices are getting back to a normal level compared to last year.

TULIP YELLOW FLIGHT

Currently 25% of the Tulips that are supplied at the auction are
yellow colored. This is of course because it is almost Easter time.
Yellow Flight is at this time of year the most beautiful yellow
tulip, with the best quality. So if you want a high quality Tulip
which has a long vase life, choose Yellow Flight!

Rutgrink
GROWER IN THE SPOTLIGHT:
ASTILBE ALMOST ALL YEAR LONG
Rutgrink is the leading grower of Astilbes. From mid-March to
the end of December they supply one or more cultivars.
Astilbe Washington is the one variety which is grown in the
greenhouse during their entire season. Only when grown in the
greenhouse does Washington gets its nice, bright white color.
Red is a color which is difficult to grow in the right way with
Astilbe. Yet Rutgrink offers two beautiful red varieties. The red
Astilbe Fanal is supplied from early April to late June. The Paul
Gaarder with its deep red color takes the baton on from then,
and is available until the end of December.
In the pink segment Rutgrink also offers two varieties. From late
June to late November they supply the well known Erika, the
Astilbe known for its good durability. From mid-July to the end of
December they offer Else Schluck: a variety that is not very well
known, but this certainly is not deserved. Else Schluck is slightly
darker than Erika and has a beautiful, full ear.
The last type Rutgrink cultivates is the lilac colored Amethyst.
This is a particular type, which is offered in small numbers. Amethyst is available from late June to late October.
