Douglas SBD-5 “Dauntless”
Star of the Battle of Midway
Facts & Figures:
• The SBD was developed before World War II by Northrop Corporation
• On that day of infamy in the skies over Pearl Harbor, an SBD was the
first American combat aircraft to shoot down a Japanese Zero fighter
• It was instrumental in turning the tide of war at the Battle of Midway on
June 4, 1942, by sinking or crippling four Japanese aircraft carriers
• The only U.S. combat aircraft to fight from the beginning to end of war
• Considered the most destructive air weapon of the Navy, the SBD sank
over 300,000 tons of enemy ships
This SBD-5
• Only 3 flying today, comes complete with all original armament,
bombs, equipment, rear gunner’s turret, radio set
• Underwent complete restoration to flying status in 1999
• SBD-5 configuration and color
scheme is that used at the time of
the Battle of the Marianas, or “The
Marianas Turkey Shoot.”
• Available for airshows throughout
the Southeast and Midwest
• Rides available!
Royal Air Force “Expeditor”
Facts & Figures
• The Beechcraft model 18 series was introduced in 1937 for $37,000.00
• One of the most versatile training aircraft ever to fly
• Also used for light cargo transport and general transportation duties, among
which VIP transport was high on the list
About this Expeditor
• This aircraft is painted in RAF camouflage air transport color scheme with
invasion “D-Day” stripes. The colors were selected from matched paint
chips and are authentic right down to the numbers on the side, which were
on the aircraft that Col Vic Hewes flew in service of the RAF in WWII.
• We believe this is the only C-45 Expeditor painted this way.
• The “Bucket of Bolts,” as it is affectionately called, is available for shows
throughout the Southeast and
Midwest
• Open to public for cockpit tours!
• Rides available!

Japanese B5N “Kate”
Facts & Figures
• The Nakajima B5N was a Japanese carrier-based attack aircraft known to
the allies as “Kate”, a key aircraft used in the attack on Pearl Harbor
• “Kates” eliminated the carriers USS Hornet, Lexington, and Yorktown.
An attack by “Kates” was an eyeball-to-eyeball experience where highly
trained Japanese pilots and allied anti-aircraft gunners confronted each
other in a very personal way as the aircraft rushed at its target, hitting
with considerable accuracy.
• More than 1,200 “Kates” were built before and during WWII. None are
known to exist today.
About this Kate
• This is one of five surviving B5N
Kate replicas manufactured by
20th Century Fox for the movie
Tora! Tora! Tora!
• This aircraft is painted as ship
BII-310, a group leader from the
carrier Hiryu. Ship BII-310 was
one of the aircraft involved in
attacks on the USS California at
Pearl Harbor Dec. 7th, 1941.
Canadian Car & Foundry Harvard Mk IV
The Harvard Mark IV was the Royal Canadian Air Force’s mainstay advanced
trainer during the World War II time period. It is the same basic airframe as
the US Army Air Corps AT-6 and the US Navy SNJ. The main external
difference between the Harvard and the AT-6 is the long exhaust stack down
the aircraft’s right side, which shrouds the heater for Canadian winters. Also,
the Mark IV was produced without gear doors. There are other slight
differences in the canopy, cockpit layout, and instrumentation.
This aircraft was built under license by the Canadian Car and Foundry
Company and was received by the Royal Canadian Air Force on 9 September
1952. The paint scheme represents that applied to training and administrative
aircraft in Britain during World War II.
The paint scheme is a distinctive and
eye-catching green/tan camouflage with
yellow trim. This airplane is owned and
piloted by John “Skipper” Hyle and his
wife, Susan “Doc” Northrup. Skipper is
formation qualified.
North American Aviation SNJ
The SNJ was the Navy's advanced trainer from 1936 through the forties and its
primary trainer during much of the fifties. The SNJ is considered to be the most
successful training aircraft ever produced. The SNJ represented a transition from the
slower, less complex trainers to a high performance type that would prepare student
aviators for the more advanced fleet aircraft. It was not only heavier and larger than
these predecessors, but also incorporated retractable landing gear. Later versions
were also fitted with arresting hooks as well as more powerful electrical systems to
accommodate instrument training requirements. In addition to its training role, the
SNJs were used as command and staff transports and played an important role in the
development of the modern aircraft carrier.
This aircraft recently underwent major
restoration. This aircraft is as a gunnery
trainer and is painted in the Navy’s
classic dark on light blue paint scheme
used by combat aircraft. It has a .30 cal
gun in the cowl, one on the wing, and
provisions for another .30 cal gun for a
rear gunner. This airplane is owned and
piloted by Jim Buckley and John Currenti
of the Dixie Wing. Rides available.
WWII Encampment Display with Jeep & PX
The WW II Encampment: The Dixie Wing offers a simulated WW II encampment
and post exchange (PX). This display includes authentic WW II field gear,
grenades/rifles (inoperative), and a WW II jeep with 30 cal machine gun.
The PX: The Dixie Wing PX is designed to be a complimentary part of our overall
airplane display package. The PX caries SBD, Kate, C-45, PT-26, SNJ, and
Harvard merchandise. Other merchandise typically sold at the PX includes: shirts,
hats, flight suits, patches, dog tags (a crowd favorite), toys, books, etc.
The Jeep: Our WW II encampment / PX can also include a US Army Jeep complete
with pedestal-mounted 30 cal machine gun. This jeep is painted identically to one
used by the 355th fighter squadron in the Pacific theater during WW II. Note that
the jeep display is available only for those airshows located within 150 miles of
Falcon Field, Peachtree City, GA.
