Blessings, Jeremiah Castille Foundation's Alumni Events Barbara Blomeyer Executive Director Jeremiah Castille Foundation B A Time for Giving Around this time of year there is always a sermon or message about giving. So many times our natural reaction is "Oh No, Not Again!". This Christmas season and really every season, we could use a refocus on what The Lord really tells us about Giving rather than what the world says. We see throughout scripture the word Giving or the attitude of Giving commanded or displayed. From the giving of a man to his wife to the Christmas story of God giving his Son, we see acts of Giving both financially and other things, such as time. The key concept is the age old verse from Acts 20:35 that our mothers told us growing up that still holds true today. "lt is better to give than to receive." One thing the church has failed to teach and that I would like to focus on is the art of Giving other than tithes. Most Christians would say "Well I tithe to my church, isn't that all I'm called to do?" The fact is that in Malachi 3:10, God is clear that our first fruit is a tithe to him, but as believers it shouldn't stop there. We see in James an important lesson that will open our Christmas and lives to another amazing level in our walk with Christ. James 2:14 - 17 Says "L4 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 lf one of you says to them, "Go in peace; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 ln the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." James is pointing us to giving apart from our tithe. This is an understanding that as a born again Christian our Faith is supposed to be shown through the works we do for others. James points out that it isn't enough to simply pray for someone in need, but that we are called to do something for those needs along with prayer. The question where do I find a place to serve people in need? is Through Jeremiah Castille Foundation we have opportunities to serve others in a powerfulway. Jeremiah Castille Foundation not only uses your support financially to fulfill its' ministries, but it also uses volunteers who can bring their gifts to serve others. Whether you have a passion to get involved with helping children, providing an area of service through your career or business or work with our foundation events, there are many avenues to get plugged in to serve and give. During this season of giving I invite you to read God's word on Giving and the promises from God. Some of myfavorites are, Deut L5:7-tO, Proverbs Lt:24-25, Malachi3:10, Luke 6:38, Acts 20:35, 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 and Galatians 6:7. As you read and pray over Jeremiatr Castille Foundation's Alumni Events these verses, ask God to reveal to you what your gifts of giving are and how he wants you to fulfill his calling on your life in service to others. Take three simple steps to begin your giving in2OL2. 1.)Ask God where your gifts are to serve others 2.) Contact us at JCF to discuss where you might be able to plug in 3.)Take The Step! May your Christmas and New Year reflect God's love for your family and you. Bags of Hope .,li Jeremiah Castille Foundation presented Bags of Hope, book bag and school supply give-a-way, to Wtatley Elementary School in Birmingham on November 17 ,2011. Bags of Hope is a ministry of Jeremiah Castille Foundation that provides book bags and school supplies to students. Since the inception of the program in 2008, JCF has reached approximately 1,200 students. ln addition to the book bags filled with supplies, Jeremiah Castille provided a powerful message to the community and with the help of Tim and Simeon, assisted in the distribution of the book bags. This year, Meadowbrook Baptist Church Youth and Children's Ministry collected the supplies and packed 200 bags as a ministry project led by their youth pastor, Chris Jones and children's pastor ,David Eanes. Jeremiah Castille Foundation's vision is to invest, influence, impact and inspire young lives so they may rebuild and restore future generations. Bags of Hope allow students to enter the school year prepared with the necessary school supplies that are often difficult for families to purchase. Bags of Hope give students a sense of pride knowing that they have the tools needed to accomplish the educationaltask before them. Former University of Alabama and NFL standout Jeremiah Castille paid a visit to the facility Monday and brought a message of inspiration, along with some special Christmas giffs. "One of the board members on our foundation, Drew Crouse, has been involved with the Boys Ranch for several years," Castille said. "He asked me if we could do some Christmas stuff for the boys ranch. This is kind of what we do with our foundation in encouraging youth, so it just kind of fits in' We have some gifts we are going to give them, some backpacks with stuff in them. Some of the kids are Alabama fans, sbme are Floridaians, t tnint one is LSU, so we are trying to give them something with their favorite teams." Castille has been promoting the cause for youth for the past decade. "We have been incorporated since 1999 and working with youth longer than that," Castille said. "lt's going on '10 years this upcoming year. I call it investing, influencing, impacling and inspiring young pe-ople. That is whit we try to do with our foundation. We want to have an influence in young people's lives." There are about a dozen children living at the ranch, which is off Baldwin County 32 in Summerdale. The young people received things such as collegiate caps, shirts, autographed photos from Alabama coach Nic*-Saban and what turned ouf to be a favorite, action shots of the favorite collegiate players. Jeremiah Castille Foundation's Alumni Events Castille, who was raised in q dysfunctionalfamily, told the youngsters about how his struggles in life led him to make decisions to be positive about things. people let the pastdictate their future," Castille said. Stille fuToment$ A Quiet Time with God Written by: Jeremiah Castille Dear JCF Partners, I would like to start off by wishing everyone a blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year. lf you are like me, you are asking yourself where did the time go this year? And for all of us U/A football fans can we believe how fast the season was over and here we are waiting for the BCS National Championship game on January 91h,2012. Boy! \Mrat a blessed and exciting year for the Crimson Tide football team. lt seems like yesterday when lwas talking to the team in August about the 2011 football season and what it was going to take to be National Champions. ln the team meeting that day I talked about one word, FOGUS. We used the word as an acronym meaning Follow on Course Unfil Successfu/. I shared with the team that the key to becoming BCS champions was to take each day and approach it with tremendous Focus! Take each class room assignment, each practice and each play to Follow on Course Until Sucessful. This one word is what separates winners from losers. People that win at life develop the discipline of Focus. Focus is a discipline and if we are going to be champions in life we have to Follow on Course Until Successfu/ each day the Good Lord gives us. I pray that you will finish 2011 and start 2012 with Focus.
