Somebody’s Prayin’ for children ages 4 thru 3rd grade “R.E.S.P.E.C.T.” PROVERBS 13:13; I PETER 2:13-17 Proverbs 13:13 Whoever scorns instruction will pay for it, but whoever respects a command is rewarded. I Peter 2:13-17 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 13 I Peter 2:13-17 (con’t) For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. 16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a coverup for evil; live as God’s slaves. 15 I Peter 2:13-17 (con’t) Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor. 17 “R.E.S.P.E.C.T.” OFFICER DARREN WILSON CHRIS KYLE THANK YOU First Responders and Armed Forces Personnel! HOW AUTHORITY IS BEING REJECTED Romans 13:2 “…He who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.” BALTIMORE MAYOR STEPHANIE RAWLINGS-BLAKE Romans 3:18 “There is no fear of God in their eyes.” II. HOW AUTHORITY IS TO BE RESPECTED Proverbs 13:13 “Whoever respects a command is rewarded.” I Peter 2:13 “Submit yourselves, for the Lord’s sake, to every authority instituted among men…” Romans 13:1 “The authorities that exist are established by God.” The elements of respect for authority: 1. Submission I Peter 2:13 “SUBMIT yourselves, for the Lord’s sake, to every authority instituted among men…” I Peter 2:16 “Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God.” The elements of respect for authority: 1. Submission 2. Appreciation Hebrews 13:17 “Obey your leaders and submit to them…Do this with JOY and not with grief…” The elements of respect for authority: 1. Submission 2. Appreciation 3. Intercession I Timothy 2:2 (NLT) “Pray this way for kings and all others who are in authority, so that we can live in peace and quietness, in godliness and dignity.” The effect of showing respect for authority: ***Respect for authority brings glory to God! I Peter 2:12-13a, 15 “Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God…Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake…For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.”
