As many of you know, this past spring we celebrated the 60th Jubilee of Sister Janice Heery, OP. Sister has been serving the children and community of St. Rose of Lima for thirty-two years of her religious life. She is still a great presence and inspiration to many of us in the school and parish. We thank you, Sister for your years of dedication and commitment to St. Rose of Lima. Banasz Memorial Scholarship – Thomas McCahill The St. Rose of Lima Athletic Committee Award – Gianna Patterson, Gabriel We welcomed 335 students to St. Rose this September. We also welcomed our new teachers and staff members joining us this year: Mr. Robert Plassio will be teaching English and Writing in our junior high classes, Ms. Alyssa Santone will be teaching in our second grade, and Linda Frank will be the new Kindergarten Aide. Mrs. Linda Witte has retired from St. Rose and Ms. Nancy Payne has resigned to pursue another professional endeavor. Our gratitude is given for their years of service to St. Rose of Lima. The Diocese has been initiating curriculum revisions in the areas of Science and Math through the ACE Collaborative from Notre Dame University. Both curriculums have been completed and will be fully implemented this school year. Math Teachers in Grades 3, 4, and 5 will be participating in a sixteen hour professional development program through the Penn Literacy Network. Teachers in grades K-2 and 6-8 will received professional development in unit lesson planning for the Science curriculum. St. Rose of Lima has been chosen to pilot the Science and Technology for Children (STC) program this year in our Kindergarten class. It is a hands-on program that will engage students in the scientific method of experimentation and discovery. Thank you for all your support and continued commitment to St. Rose of Lima and Catholic education through our Annual Fund and your support at our many activities and events. It was a great special Mass at St. Rose Church followed by day with perfect weather. We would like to thank the St. Rose Athletic a reception at Tavistock Country Club for her Committee, the PTA, and all the volunteers for their hard work and for 60th Jubilee Celebration. St. Rose also making this a a fun and successful event. A special thank you to all of dedicated a banner to her for the years of our sponsors for their support! service that she has given St. Rose School. In November 2013, he was appointed as Superintendent of Schools for the Avon Grove Members of the Class of 2010 - where are they now? Here a few of the members of the Class of 2010, we wish them the best as they embark on their future endeavors. School District which is located in Chester County, Pa. He received a BS from Cabrini College in Biology, a MEd from Cabrini College and an EdD from Immaculata University. Previously he was Assistant Superintendent in Nikolas DelleMonache Nikolas graduated from Bishop Eustace Prep. He is matriculating to Neumann University with a merit scholarship. Nik was awarded a varsity letter for crew and vocal music and a thespian award from Bishop Eustace. the Wissahickon School District, Ambler, Pa. He currently resides in Aston, Pa with his wife and three children. Regina Herman ‘76 St. Rose of Lima alumna, Regina (Gigi) Herman William Christian Reich Christian graduated from Haddon Township High School. He will attend Saint Bonaventure University on a Provost Scholarship, where he will be majoring in French and Computer Science. Christian plans to continue on to his doctorate in French, and hopes to become a Professor of French and Francophone Studies. recently published her first novel, "Love Match," under her pen name Reggie Thomas. The book is currently available on Amazon.com. The novel is set primarily in the greater Philly area, including Moorestown and the Jersey shore, is full of fun pop cultures references, as well as modern themes, which readers will find entertaining. Charlie Reiss Charlie Reiss graduated from Paul VI High School along with many of his SRS '10 classmates. At PVI, Charlie was a member of the soccer, wrestling, and lacrosse teams, earning conference honors in wrestling and lacrosse and was named captain of the lacrosse team. Charlie was also voted "Most Likely to Change the World" by the PVI Class of 2014. In October 2013, Charlie enlisted in the New Jersey Army National Guard and will attend basic training at Ft. Benning, GA from July 21st through mid-November. In January, Charlie will continue his academic career at Rowan University. Shayla Sweeney ‘09 Shayla recently completed her freshman year at Rutgers University, where she has continued her high school success in softball. As a freshman, Shayla went 9-10 on the mound, with 43 strikeouts. She started 11 of the 24 games she appeared in and posted a 4.66 ERA. She was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll on April 28 Bailey Stang recently graduated from Gloucester Catholic High School, where she enjoyed making lifelong friends with her Ram family. Bailey will attend Immaculata University located in Malvern, PA, continuing her Catholic studies at the university level. She received a $60,000 academic scholarship and additional $1,000 scholarships for service, congeniality and athletics. She plans on receiving her RN/BSN at Immaculata University and then continue to get her Master’s degree in nursing, with her ultimate goal of becoming a nurse anesthetist. She also received two honorable awards from Gloucester Catholic High School, the "Catholic Schooling and Service Award" and the MVP of the Cheerleading Squad. She is excited to begin her college career at Immaculata University and become a might mac. for her performances, Shayla went 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA with a win over St. John's and two wins over Connecticut. Her team reached the conference semi-finals this year. Shayla is looking forward to her sophomore year and the challenges it will bring as Rutger’s teams move to the Big Ten. Isabella Dolente ‘09 Isabella graduated from Camden Catholic in 2013 and is currently studying at The University of Scranton, where is she an orientation leader for incoming freshman. This year’s performance was You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, directed by Mia Reich. We thank our many volunteers who helped make this another amazing performance. Stay tuned to see what will they will be performing in the Spring! Our 9th Annual Laps for Learning event was held this past May. Over $13,000 was raised by the students to help benefit our school programs and technology. A special thank you to our event in-kind donors, our students, teachers and volunteers who helped make it a great day! Students are pictured from Laps for Learning and Annual Field Day festivities. Sports News Congratulations to our Track Team for their great season this past spring. Congratulations to all of our student athletes including those that participated in the Meet of Champions. At the Penn Relays on April 25th, the girls’ 4 x 100 team placed first and the boys’ 4 x 100 team placed second. The girl’s team was honored by the borough of Haddon Heights for their great success. Thank you to Coach Fesi and all her wonderful volunteers for another amazing season! Pictured are the boy’s and girl’s relay teams and alternates for the Penn Relays. Memory Lane Snapshots from the 8th Grade Dinner Dance this past June Rita Macey Bernert, Class of 1953, sent us a picture of the girl’s intramural basketball team. She remembers a few of the people in the photo; back row – Elizabeth Hayes, middle row – Rita Macey, Eileen Greenwood, front (with basketball) – Elizabeth Hughes. The team, Rosemont, won the championship that year. 8th grade students were treated to a great night featuring a country western theme! Each team selected their name from a Catholic college name. Teams were formed from girls in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Games were played at lunchtime in the gymnasium. She remembers there were 5 or 6 teams. The boys had the same and they played on alternate days during the season. The winning team players from both girls and boys received varsity school sweaters emblazoned with the year of the championship. 5 2014 Annual Report on Giving A Message From the Advancement Office Dear St. Rose of Lima Friends: The St. Rose of Lima Annual Fund continues to grow and benefit the students of St. Rose of Lima School. Since the inception of the Annual Fund, we have raised over $315,000 for St. Rose School. We would like to thank everyone for their continued dedication to Catholic education. Over $70,000 in donations were received in support of the Annual Fund this past school year. Conor was a 2005 graduate of St. Rose of Lima School who passed away suddenly on January 15, 2011. Conor was a young man of 19 who was taken from us suddenly and much too early, but who lived a life rich in Faith, Family and Friends. Conor attended Catholic school his entire life, attended mass regularly, and received the Sacraments regularly. Conor enjoyed spending time with his immediate family, mom and dad, brother Nevin and sister Darby; as well as his large and extended family (over 20 aunts and uncles and 44 first and second cousins). His friends and family createdThe Conor O’Kane Foundation to provide tuition assistance to families in need so their children can continue to benefit from a Catholic school education. Events are held throughout the year, including the Conor O’Kane Memorial Ice Hockey Tournament on Thanksgiving Weekend and a Beef and Beer in the Spring, to benefit the fund. This past year, Saint Rose of Lima School received over $16,000 from The Conor O’Kane Foundation for tuition assistance.
