About Mignon Furman
Our founder Mignon Furman was the Director of the University of Cape Town Ballet School with special responsibility for teachers’ training. She formulated the programs
to be used by 80 trainee teachers and 400 students. She
was nominated for the Distinguished Teacher Award
from amongst the entire university faculty of 1,500.
A teacher, choreographer, and educationist, she was a
person of determination who had the talents to give definition to her vision.
She built the AAB to be one of the leading Summer Schools in America; and
her Performance Awards program to be an international phenomenon.

“I
am proud to be a part of this international faculty. Dancers from all over the
world attend the AAB Summer School. Their
improvement, motivation, hard work, and
discipline are rewarded with the beautiful Gala Performance on the last night of a
memorable Summer school.”
-Kevin Durwael, Royal Ballet School Antwerp
“A
fter my first day of teaching at the AAB
Summer School, I thought about how
much I would like to come back the following
year. Packed with intense training in fabulous
facilities, the program formulated by Mignon
Furman is well focused. AAB’s emphasis
on classical ballet technique, with the right
amount of Jazz and Character Dance trains
the students to be better dancers.”

Quotes from Faculty Teachers
“A
AB Summer School was a great experience. Don’t miss it!”
-Katherine Higgins, Bolshoi Ballet, Moscow
“T
he whole program is irresistible. It is the perfect organization. It is remarkable that all the different groups perform. The choreography makes all
of the dancers look their best. It is a source of delight to see the results of the
program for the dancers.”
-Violette Verdy, was Principal Dancer of NYC Ballet and Director of the
Paris Opera Ballet, now on the faculty of the University of Indiana, Bloomington.
“A
t the Summer School of the AAB, the distinguished teachers, diverse repertoire, and meticulous preparation for performances combine for the dancers to make phenomenal progress. The atmosphere in the wonderful studios is
hard work, but with kindness and care. It is not everywhere that there is such a
harmonious, and constructive environment.”
-Vladimir Stadnik, Assistant Professor of Dance, Ball State University
“I
t is wonderful to see the progress that the dancers achieve at the AAB
Summer School - from advanced dancers to the juniors. It is exciting to see
the improvement in technique, and presentation that each dancer gains in the
studio, and in performance in the theater.”
-Gina Chiavelli, Principal, Pinewood School of Dance
“T
he Summer School of the AAB is truly a Summer School of Excellence.
The teachers, who come from several parts of the world are the finest.
I had the wonderful opportunity to judge Performance Awards at Summer
School. I was impressed with the high standard of coaching which the dancers
received in a short period of time.”
-Louise Taitz, Principal, OYT Academy of Dance, Chicago
“I
t was a truly enlightening experience for me. As each day passed, I observed the excellence of the AAB. The classes are taught by great teachers. The program also prepares dancers for joining a company.”
-Michael Broderick, Associate Vice President, The London Ballet Circle
