FIT KIDZ IGNITE YOUR CHILD’S POTENTIAL IN THE YMCA’S FIT KIDZ AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM Fit Kidz supports working families while fostering each child’s cognitive, social-emotional and physical development through opportunities and experiences which focus on achievement, relationships and belonging. Each child is encouraged to develop at his or her own unique rate by encouraging skill development and frequent leadership opportunities. A healthy afterschool snack is provided daily. Weekly activities include track time, games in the field house, swimming, book club and cooking. Monthly field trips! Fit Kidz follows the BRES school calendar. Full-day Vacation Camp provided on in-service days & school vacations: Nov. 23 and Dec. 26-30 (additional fee; please register at the Membership Desk). Infants weeks - 18 $185 to 3 Our child care6programs formonths children six weeks years are designed to allow Toddlers 18 months - 3 children years to explore $175 and create independently. Through observation, teachers design creative activities that teach skills needed to move your child to the next developmental stage. Classroom is student-led while teachers take on a passive role, observing and providing guidance and lessons as the opportunity arises. TEEN FUN FRIDAYS GET AIR GARDENS AGLOW Date: Date: Friday, December 16 Bus leaves BR YMCA at 3:30; returns by 6:15 Cost: $10 Friday, November 18 Bus leaves BR YMCA at 4; returns by 8pm. Cost: $30 Get Air is a large trampoline park with many activities including trampolines, dodge ball, foam pit, slackline, slam ball, ninja course and fidget ladder. Cost includes 1 hour of jumping, required jumping socks and transportation. Minimum of 13 participants to run this event. Sign up at the Membership Desk; parents also must sign the waiver online at https:// portland.getairmanagement.com/Waiver2.html The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens has the biggest and brightest light display in Maine. They’re adding even more lights this year—over 350,000! Cost includes transportation and 1 admission ticket to enter the gardens for 2 hours. Minimum of 8 Boothbay participants to run this event. GYMNASTICS We partner with the North Atlantic Gymnastics Academy to offer progressive gymnastics programming for our community’s youth! All gymnastics programming takes place in the Field House and will run for an eight week session from November 2 - December 21, 2016. PUFFINS: Ages 1-3 with Parent Participation Wednesdays 9:15 - 10am The Puffins class is for our youngest gymnasts from walking to 3 years of age. Parents are asked to stay and participate during the class as it allows an opportunity to discover the environment together. Each class has a motor and stimulation theme that is supplemented with music, props, and a combination of gross and fine motor skills. During the class parents will discover new ways to interact with their young movers while they explore the world of gymnastics. Members $75 Non Members $100 SANDPIPERS: Ages 3-5 optional Parent Participation Wednesdays 10:15 - 11am or 5:30 - 6:15pm The Sandpipers class is for boys and girls ages 3 to 5. Parents are welcome to stay and participate in this class, but it is not required as many of our young gymnasts find success independently. Each class has a motor and stimulation theme that is supplemented with music, props, and a combination of gross and fine motor skills. The class provides an opportunity for both guided motor learning and free exploration where they will have the opportunity to learn rolls, cartwheels, jumps and swings. Members $75 Non Members $100 SEAGULLS: Girls Ages 5-8 Wednesdays, 2:30 - 3:30pm or 3:30 - 4:30pm The Seagulls class is for ages 5 to 8. We ask our seagulls to have the opportunity to learn without parent involvement. Although many of the same themes are present from the Puffins and Sandpipers classes, the focus shifts from general motor learning to a more specific gymnastics motor learning. Girls in this class will learn the fundamentals of the floor exercise, the balance beam, the uneven bars and the vault exercise outlined by USA Gymnastics. Members $100 Non Members $125 KESTRELS: Girls Ages 9-12 Wednesday 4:30-5:30pm The Kestrels class is for girls ages 9 to 12 and is designed in such a way that both girls with previous experience and girls new to the sport will find success. Girls in this class will expand their knowledge of strength and flexibility as it applies to gymnastics and will learn both fundamental and more advanced skills on the floor, balance beam, uneven bars, and vault. Members $100 Non Members $125 GIRLS TEAM: Ages 5+ Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:30-8pm at CLC YMCA For girls interested in focusing on developing their gymnastics skills with the potential to compete. Members $100/month plus $50 monthly team fee YOUTH SPORTS BASKETBALL PEE WEE BASKETBALL: Grades PreK - 1 Saturdays 9-9:45am in the Field House This co-ed basketball program is designed for up and coming basketball players. Your future stars will learn the fundamentals of basketball through fun drills. Kick-off on Saturday, 11/5, will be in the gym; remainder of the session in the Field House. Family Members $30 Members $40 Non Members $60 ROOKIES BASKETBALL: Grades 2 - 3 Saturdays 10-10:45am in the Field House This co-ed program is for future basketball stars to learn skills, good sportsmanship, and healthy competition within the game of basketball. Kick-off on Saturday, 11/5, will be in the gym; remainder of the session in the Field House. Family Members $35 Members $40 Non Members $60 BASKETBALL TRAVEL TEAMS Registration will open in January 2017 The Y offers basketball travel teams for both boys and girls: Grades 3-4; Grades 5-6; and Grades 7-8. Coaches will contact players to play on these teams; all travel teams will play in four tournaments beginning in March (1 home and 3 away). Family Members $80 Members $90 Non Members $100 VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED FOR BASKETBALL Volunteer coaches help our youth accelerate in athletics. Coaches should be dedicated to serving the children through teaching the fundamentals of the game, sportsmanship and how to have fun. YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE Grades 4 - 6 Practice Times & Games TBD This is a competitive league with girls teams and boys teams that will help youth get ready for basketball at a higher level. Players will learn a combination of skills, drills, healthy competition, and good sportsmanship. In the Gymnasium Boys: 9 - 10am Girls: 10:30 - 11:30am ITTY BITTY SOCCER ITTY BITTY SOCCER: Ages 4-6 Thursdays 3:15 - 4pm in the Field House Itty Bitty Soccer is moving indoors for Fall II! Soccer fundamentals, footwork, team play and fun are emphasized. Each session starts with skill development followed by mini games. Minimum of 8 required to run this program. Members $40 Non Members $70 TENNIS Our professional tennis staff will help improve your child’s game. More than just skill development, our program hosts tournaments, pizza parties and other fun events. Youth under age 18 never have to pay for court time and scholarships are available for all tennis programs. Family Members Members Non Members $45 $50 $60 PRESCHOOL BALLET/CREATIVE MOVEMENT: 3-5 years Tuesday 9:30 - 10:30am Students will learn to follow along with the teacher to work on basic Ballet steps, and play movement games to explore dancers’ own creativity and sense of movement with the music. This class is an exciting mix of structure vs. creativity. PRESCHOOL BALLET/TAP: 3-5 years Thursday 2-3pm This class is for graceful ballerinas AND preschoolers who want to make some noise! We’ll start with a circle warm-up followed by basic Ballet & Tap steps and combinations as well as a focus on learning to count to the beat and move to the rhythms of various types of music. pointe work, are also welcome to take this class. Because we love Ballet and appreciate how the technique helps with every style of dance, this class gives dancers ample time to focus on their training. This is an hour and a half class, but the fee has been left at the hourly rate! TEEN CONTEMPORARY: Grades 9-12 Wednesday 6:45 - 7:45pm This class will explore a variety of styles including Broadway Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, and Contemporary. Students’ interests will determine which styles we’ll focus on for the spring recital. Beginners welcome! ADULT TAP Wednesday 5:45 - 6:45pm Ever want to try Tap dancing but never have? Maybe you used to Tap but you’re feeling rusty? Come join us as we have a great time tapping out rhythms and making some noise. We’ll work with a variety of music styles tailored to the interests of the class. All ages and experience levels are welcome! BEGINNER JAZZ/TAP: Grades K-3 Tuesday 3-4pm A fun intro class to these two styles! We'll do a Jazz warm up followed by learning new steps, working on Jazz technique for kicks and turns, progressions across the floor, and a center combination. Then we'll put on our Tap shoes and learn how our feet can actually be used as a musical instrument! BEGINNER BALLET: Grades K-3 Thursday 3-4pm In this class we'll learn the progression of a classical Ballet class: barre warm-ups, center technique, corner combinations, petite allegro combinations (small, quick jumps), and finally a reverence. We'll work on learning the names for steps, body positions, proper alignment, and improving our balance, strength, & flexibility as we have fun learning how Ballet technique can help you to be a better dancer in all the various styles of dance! INTERMEDIATE JAZZ: Grades 4-8 Tuesday 4-5pm We’ll explore a variety of styles including Broadway Jazz and Lyrical, as well as some contemporary and Hip Hop! Whenever necessary, we will divide the class into two groups so beginners can get a basic breakdown, and experienced dancers can be more challenged. INTERMEDIATE TAP: Grades 4-12 Tuesday 5-6pm This class is a continuation of Tap skills learned in the beginner class (or separate groups for those in this age range just starting). We’ll play with lots of different rhythms and styles of music as we have a good ol’ noisy time! BALLET PRE-POINTE/POINTE: Grades 4-12 Thursday 4-5:30pm This class is for anyone who wants to learn more about Ballet as well as dancers who are ready for pointe work now or those who wish to develop the necessary strength and balance. Students who enjoy Ballet, but are not interested in CHOREOGRAPHY: Grades 4-12 Thursday 5:30 - 6:30pm This class is for students currently enrolled in a technique class who would like to explore their creativity by creating dances of their own. Students will be asked to bring some prepared material and to participate in improvisational exercises in class to perform in our holiday show in December and annual recital in May. In this free 12-week program, cancer survivors increase strength, develop supportive relationships and increase their quality of life. The Fall 2016 session begins in October. Research by the National Institutes of Health has proven that programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can reduce the number of cases of type 2 diabetes by 58%. ABOUT THE PROGRAM In a classroom setting, a trained lifestyle coach will facilitate a small group of participants in learning about healthier eating, physical activity and other behavior changes over 25 sessions. The yearlong program consists of 16 weekly sessions and three sessions every other week during the first six months followed by 6 monthly sessions in the second six months. LAUNCHING IN JANUARY 2017! Classes will begin in January 2017 with options available for location (within Boothbay and Damariscotta areas) and time (day or evening) based upon your availability.
