Michael Conley Elementary School Creative Child Learning Center Florida High JPII Catholic High Schools Within SouthWood Conley School @ SouthWood (Pre-K to Fifth Grades) Built on land donated by the St Joe Company and named after J. Michael Conley, former Leon County School Board member and long time Principal of Leon High, the Conley School is a Pre-K through 5th grade, state- of- the- art facility that opened its doors August 2008 to just over 500 students with a capacity to serve 835. The Conley School serves SouthWood children and a select number of children re-zoned from overcrowded Chaires and Apalachee Elementary Schools. Each classroom is fitted with the latest in technology and materials, including desktop computers, audio enhancers, and interactive white boards that operate as giant touch screens connected to teachers’ computers. In addition, Conley teachers have their own laptop computers, document cameras, and digital cameras. The school also has separate computer labs and Ipod carts that can be shared throughout the entire school. While the technology and programming are undoubtedly first rate, a second cause for celebration lies in the school’s superstar faculty, staff, and administration. Leon County Schools recruited 34 outstanding teachers eager to deliver an interdisciplinary approach to learning and teach higher order thinking and problem solving skills. Neither SouthWood nor FSUS can guarantee your child a seat at FSUS. The reservation agreement states that the SouthWood community has a specified number of allocated seats at FSUS for kindergarten through twelfth grade. As a result, only a limited number of seats are provided to children of SouthWood property owners as outlined in the reservation agreement. Florida State University School (K to 12th Grades) Developmental Research Charter School Professional Development School (Also known as Florida High) One of the most sought-after schools in the region, the Florida State University Developmental Research School (FSUS) consistently has received the coveted “A” rating awarded by the Florida Department of Education. Admission to FSUS is subject to a number of factors, including enrollment availability and eligibility requirements. FSUS’ distinction from other schools is its mission — to not only provide all students with a superior education, but to produce a setting where Florida State University faculty and graduate students can design, demonstrate and analyze the effectiveness of new instructional materials and strategies under controlled conditions. These techniques may then be evaluated and adapted for other public schools throughout Florida. FSUS is a Professional Development School with Florida State University. K-5 Program The K-5 program implements a variety of innovative educational techniques in delivering a standards-based curriculum. Middle School Program The middle school program (grades 6-8) combines the elements of interdisciplinary planning and teaching as well as curriculum and instructional strategies, which are rich and varied. High School Program At the high school level (grades 9-12), the curriculum focuses on rigorous academic courses that will prepare students for postsecondary education. 3000 School House Road, Tallahassee, FL 32311 (850) 245-3700 | www.fsus.fsu.edu School Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 2:55 p.m. What are the eligibility requirements for a child to attend FSUS using one of SouthWood’s seats? 1) To be eligible to apply for one of the SouthWood seats, a parent must own property in SouthWood and be a member in good standing of the SouthWood Residential Community Association, Inc. Parents renting property do not qualify. If, at anytime, the parent no longer owns property in SouthWood, the student is ineligible to attend FSUS using a SouthWood seat. However, all SouthWood residents may apply directly with FSUS. For more information call the FSUS Admissions Office at 850.245.3700. 2) If a parent does not own property in SouthWood, a parent must be under contract to purchase a custom single family home site from The St. Joe Company in SouthWood with an anticipated closing date prior to the end of the current school year. If a contract to purchase property in SouthWood is terminated, the student is ineligible to attend FSUS using a SouthWood seat. Is there a waiting list for potential SouthWood students? Yes. Regardless of your child’s current age, SouthWood property owners should contact The St. Joe Company at 850.402.5100 and provide the name, age and grade level, if applicable, of their children wishing to attend FSUS. If the SouthWood seats are filled for a particular grade level, potential SouthWood students for that grade level will be placed on the waiting list. What is the application process to attend FSUS using a SouthWood seat? Documentation to substantiate ownership of a property in the SouthWood community, such as the recorded warranty deed, is required. Once documentation has been verified by The St. Joe Company, the child will be added to the SouthWood reservation list. Please contact The St. Joe Company at 850.402.5100 for additional information. FSUS requires all students to complete a separate application for admission. Will eligibility be verified? Yes. Each year, and throughout the school year, St. Joe will verify that the students attending FSUS using SouthWood seats are eligible to continue to attend FSUS as a SouthWood student.
