The Chickasaw Nation is proud to offer camps, clinics and academies in a variety of interests for Chickasaw and Native American youth. Providing these opportunities allows youth to improve their skills and develop new interests while learning more about the Chickasaw Nation. Camps, academies and clinics range from developing skills in sports and learning new cultural traditions to exploring law enforcement techniques and understanding environmental education. Each is created to provide youth with personal skills and motivation for future achievements. We look forward to seeing you this year! Throughout the week, campers participate in numerous activities, including swimming, hiking, fishing, archery, canoeing, rock-climbing, stickball and nutrition education. Campers also compete in mental and physical challenges and attend daily “tribal councils,” where individuals and groups receive special recognition. This is an overnight camp. Students have the opportunity to meet tribal judges, Supreme Court justices, Chickasaw Lighthorse police officers, Peacemakers and court staff. Students will also get to visit CLEET and participate in mock trials. Mock trial participants will work with experienced speakers and lawyers to learn the structure and function of the tribal court systems and the differences between the processes of tribal court. Students begin the summer session on July 11 and conclude on July 23 with a showcase. The showcase is a three-hour event that offers a brief glimpse of the student projects that were created during the academy. Participants will have the opportunity to gain experience in the following fields of study: 2-D and 3-D visual art, theatre, creative writing, dance, vocal music, music composition, photography, theatre technology, video production and textile design. The academy focuses on Chickasaw and other Southeastern Indian cultures through the fine and performing arts. *Attending the Summer Session of the academy is a prerequisite for the following Chickasaw Arts Academy sessions: Academy Fall Session, Academy Winter Session and Academy Spring Session.
