Things to Do in Portland
QUINTISENTIALLY PORTLAND THINGS TO DO
• Wait in Line for Brunch
It’s true that brunch is a THING. Portland famous & worth the wait?
Downtown: Tasty & Alder -- in the neighborhood: Tasty & Sons.
• Get lost in Powell’s Books
World’s greatest used book store. 4 stories on a full block. Give
yourself some time.
• Go for a Bike Ride
Great way to explore the city. Try the loop around the waterfront.
• Eat at the Food Carts
While less are open on the weekend, try the SW 10th / 11th & Alder
pod downtown. Our favorite? Nong’s Khao Mon Gai.
• Explore a Neighborhood
Portland’s real gems are our dense, highly walkable neighborhood.
Check out the highlights of Mississippi Street on page 6
• Walk Along the Waterfront
The highlight of downtown! Here’s a map.
• Stroll through the Rose Garden
One of the world’s foremost rose gardens. It will be past its prime,
but still beautiful. Roses are practically weeds in Portland!
• Attend the Saturday Market (10-5 Saturday & 11-4:30 Sunday)
Hundreds of small scale artisans gather to display and sell their
wares. Pair with a walk along the waterfront. More Info
• Peruse the Farmer’s Market at PSU (Saturday 8:30 - 2pm)
The largest farmer’s market in Portland. Expect live music, amazing
food and a lively, family friendly atmosphere. More Info

Things to Do in Portland
OVERRATED PORTLAND: WHAT’S IN NOW
Once Something is “BIG” outside Portland, it’s decidedly out here.
How hipster of us; skip the line & get something better.
• DONUTS: pass on VooDoo, try Blue Star
Donuts aren’t really our thing, but trust us, skip the line and get
much tastier donuts at Blue Star.
• ICE CREAM: pass on Salt & Straw, try Ruby Jewels
While lacking in the “Do I really want to eat this?” flavors, their
Salted Carmel & Dark Chocolate is divine. Taste their seasonals
before you decide!
• COFFEE: pass on Stumptown, try Barista, Public Domain or
Heart
Warning: all ooze hipster to the umpteenth degree! Pour overs are
the latest & greatest in the coffee scene.
• THAI FOOD: pass on Pok Pok, try Mee-Sen Thai
Our favorite Thai comfort food.
Rebecca’s Fav: Khao Soi Gai (Curry Chicken Soup)
Michael’s Fav: Khao Mon Gai Tod (Fried Chicken with Rice)

VICES GUIDE: BUD
Yep, marijuana is legal. You can buy it at a store.
Don’t smoke it blatently in public, that’s not allowed.
In serious, parent tone, it is a federal offense to take marijuana out of the
state of Oregon. There have been busts. Don’t be an idiot.
Also -- pro tip -- smoke (way) less than you think. It’s seriously potent.
You can ask the “budtenders” to help you select a strain. You can also check
out the phone app Leafly for lots of options and reviews.
The baseline question is if you like Indica or Sativa effects:
Indica is relaxing and calming with a strong body high. Smells skunky.
Sativa is uplifting, energizing and creative. Smells citrusy.
Buying Bud is a CASH ONLY transaction.
Most places (but not all) have an ATM onsite.
