Honourable Chief Guest, Shri. Vijay Kumar Dev, Chairman, Governing Body, Shri

immense pleasure in presenting you the Annual Report 2012-13 of Rajdhani College.
From the destined day of 1964, when Rajdhani College became an integral part of the

help of its enthusiastic and dynamic staff. Our college today is looked upon by the
academic community of Delhi as one of the most excellent institutions for its

3 voting age, the community of students can play great role in nation-building. Young
minds carry largest amount of idealism and have huge energy to attain them. NSS
volunteers were actively engaged in organizing various activities reflecting leadership
qualities and social concerns. 3 NSS Volunteers participated in Shimla Adventure
Camp between 04 -06-2012 to 13-06-2012, 2 NSS volunteers participated in
Gyanodya Yatra organized by University of Delhi in the month of June, 10

The International Drugs Day on 25th June, 2012.
In the academic year 2012-13, National Cadet Corps (Girls’ Wing) of the college

To enhance the argumentative skills of the students the Debating Society organized
Intra-college and Inter-college debates. Our students also participated in, and won
prizes at various Inter-college events.
Friends, there’s no limit possible to the expanding horizons of each one of us! Keeping
this in mind various Departments of the college organized National Seminars and
workshops and various Cultural and Educational programmes. Such as INSPIRE
Science Camp 2013 winter session at Rajdhani College, Delhi University, sponsored
4 by Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and a National Seminar with
Lecture Series on “Sanskrit and Science” in collaboration with Delhi Sanskrit
Academy at Rajdhani College.
The Innovation Project being carried by Dr. S.K. Dhaka from the Department of
Physics and Electronics and Mr. Arun Kumar from the Department of Mathematics
on the theme of “Impact of Environmental Changes” has been widely appreciated.
Keeping the spirit of democracy alive, this academic year has also witnessed the
revival of Students’ Union and its election was conducted in peaceful manner. With
the active cooperation of our Chairman Shri Rajesh Dabas, the Students’ Union
successfully organized a two-day Cultural Festival THUNDERSTRUCK 2013 with
enthusiastic participation from different colleges,Universities and popular stars.
One area of our college where everyone feels relaxed and can interact with each other
and use the available resources, is a technology-rich environment of our Library. Our
library now has an exclusive faculty reading corner, 25 computers with internet
facility, printers and subscription to e-journals, intended to meet the expectations of the
current Net-generation. Our library has more than one lakh scholarly books on various
subjects and subscribes 15 newspapers and around 55 magazines and research journals.
Automation process has been speeded up in this academic session. The computer
cataloguing is in progress and once this is completed our students will have details of
all the books on a click of a button. Library has also started newspaper clipping service
focusing on the higher education. Library staff is willing to obtain feedback from
academic staff and students to act upon their suggestions.
This is an era of global opportunities and to add on to our teaching we are also looking
for avenues of exchange and scholarship available for our students and staff through
partnership with international universities and colleges around the globe. To fulfill this
dream we need the guidance and help of our Honourable Chief Guest. Sir, we are
dedicated to building a strong national and international reputation and in my
continued efforts to support teaching and learning, I have made it a priority to expand
all the necessary resources in various subject areas.
The following members of the non-teaching staff were also promoted this year: Sh.
Shobha Ram promoted as Lab Assistant in the Department of Chemistry,13 February,
5 2013. At the same time, we feel the void created due to retirement of our very
esteemed colleagues Mr. Krishan Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of
Commerce, and Dr. H.M. Lumb, Associate Professor, Department of Physics and
Electronics and the retirement of some non-teaching staff: Sh. Hans Raj, Lab
attendant, Physics and Electronics, (voluntary retirement), Sh. Rao Dalip Singh, Semi
Professional Assistant, Sh. Prem Chand, Lab Assistant, Physics and Electronics, Sh.
Murli Manohar, Lab Assistant, Chemistry. I would also like to express my deep
sorrow over the sad demise of Sh. Narender who served as Assistant in Accounts
Section of our college.
Before I conclude, I would like to say just one thing to our students. All the facilities
provided to our students show our dedication to the highest educational standards. I
request the students to avail all the facilities and learn from the experience and
expertise of the faculty. A very famous quote is quite apt here: “The will to win is
important, but the will to prepare is vital.” My dear students your college life is a
stepping stone to a greater experience and I wish you all the success in coming
examinations.
I take this opportunity to thank all the members of the Governing Body, my colleagues
(teaching and non-teaching) and students for their hard work, dedication and
unwavering support throughout the academic year 2012-13. I would also like to thank
all the convenors and members of various committees for their team effort in
organising this function and making it a success.
With this, I would like to end on a note of gratitude to Shri Vijay Kumar Dev, Chief
Electoral Officer, our Chairperson Shri Rajesh Dabas and all other distinguished guests
for gracing this occasion and spending their valuable time with us and our students.
Hon’ble Chief Guest, today I feel a very unusual sensation and I would like to thank

TREKKING, MOUNTAINEERING AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
CLUB
The Trekking and Mountaineering Club organized an adventure trip for the students
to Solang Valley, Manali. The team of 30 students and 5 teachers was lead by Dr.
H.M. Lumb. Apart from Dr. H.M. Lumb, the faculty members that accompanied
students from across disciplines were Dr. Savita Nigam, Dr. Suruchi, Ms. Rachns Sethi
and Mr. Nawal Kishore. The group was flagged off by the Principal, Dr. Vijay Laxmi
Pandit on September 21, 2012 from the college.
After a night halt for dinner the team reached the camp site the next day. For most of
the students it was the first experience of staying in tents. They were given basic
35 knowledge and demonstration about pitching up of tents. On the same day, that is
September 22, the team took a small acclimatization trek and had a relaxing evening
by the water side. The next morning (September23) was the trek to Solang
Valley(8400 feet) through villages, fields and apple orchards. While a group of
students went up to Dhundi(10,300 feet) others enjoyed activities like paragliding and
zorbing at Solang. The group returned tired, excited and enjoying fresh apples to the
camp in the evening. However that was not the end of the exciting day, delectable
dinner, bonfire and horror story sessions continued late into the night.
The next day was planned for adventure activities. The students were given detailed
instructions about river crossing as it is a thin line between adventure and danger.
Everyone had a wonderful time at river crossing taking more than one turn at it and
generally having a good time by the water. Post lunch the students were taken for
rappelling right opposite the camp site. They were shown how to use the harness and
manage body weight while climbing down a vertical rock. Rains descended in the
evening and people returned to their tents for exchange of experiences and wide
ranging discussions.
On the morning of September 25, 2012 the group started making preparations for
leaving the picturesque camp site surrounded by snow peaks and orchards. The
students were taught how to pack up tents and to clean up the site. A trip to the
mountains offers the joy of living in the midst of serene beauty and imbibing physical
and mental toughness. At the same time it is meant to inculcate a sense of respect and
preservation of nature, which students begin to realize within the short duration of a
trip. The group made a brief halt at the Mall in Manali for food and shopping before
heading back to the hustle of Delhi and college life.
The faculty members organized a small function for Dr H.M. Lumb in the last week of
November in honour of his retirement; he has been a true team leader initiating,
inspiring and encouraging students and teachers alike with passion of trekking.
