David E. Talbert wrote this poem to his son (Elias) to encourage him to explore and develop the
gift of the written word.
Roar
(for Elias) My son, for you there is a path A road
Be not afraid to walk it
For the world it is your kingdom Roam it
Rule it Wonder there’s in store
Roar
Seek the question never asked Be the hero who
needn’t mask Exceed your potential
Even when it seems convenient to acquiesce to the ordinary Dare to
challenge the status quo
For who invented a no Usher peace amid
the war
Roar
Roar till your fire starts to rage Roar till the bars
have loosed your cage
Even in uncertainty, let your instincts be your currency Your value
Your worth
Trust them, for they will always lead you home
Let your imagination soar
Roar
See your reflection in me Where I’ve been
Then go farther
Take from me all that is good And even of the
bad
For it is through life's stumble and regret that we recalibrate
Talk to God often
But not so much that you miss when He talks back In His word
you’ll never bore
Roar
Roar till your fire starts to rage Roar till the bars
have loosed your cage
Even in uncertainty, let your instincts be your currency Your value
Your worth
Trust them, for they will always lead you home
And when this race it seems a chore And give in
begins to lure
And life for me there is no more Remember
greatness is your core
Roar
