Bale 1815’, 31 cm high, minor chips to foot rim and slight glaze loss. £5000 - 7000 106 404 402 401 400 A North Devon, probably Fremington pottery jug of oviform with raised neck and applied ribbed strap handle, the shoulders under cream slip inscribed in calligraphic script ‘Clovelly’, 36 cm high, some glaze loss. £250 - 350 401 A North Devon, probably Fremington, bread crock of swelling cylindrical form with lug handles, the exterior partially decorated in white slip and inscised ‘He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread, Pro.12th ch. 11th ver’ and verso ‘I am the bread of life, Jhn the 6th ch, 35th ver’, 31 cm high, with a wooden cover. £250 - 300 402 A Ewenny pottery jardiniere of generous proportions, the exterior sgrafitto decorated with naive blooms and husks above a band of ribbon swags on a mustard ground, signed E.Wilson, 36 cm high, the base incised Ewenny Pottery, 1907, E. (Edwin) Jenkins, two rim chips £300 - 500 403 403 A West Country, probably Cornish, pottery jug of squat oviform with raised neck and applied strap handle, the neck incised ‘Farmers Arms 1729’, the body incised with playing card suits around a central motif flanked by stooks of corn, the pale slip decorated neck beneath a mottled green and mustard glaze, 23 cm high, rim chips. £500 - 800 *The jug is a similar size, shape and decoration to a jug inscribed ‘William Crapp, Port Govern, 1929’ sold as lot 19, Bearne’s Salerooms, 6th July, 2004. Identical playing card and comet decoration also appears on a similar jug inscribed Capt Strout, Port Isaac, 1843, lot 9, Christies, 3rd July, 2002. Both examples suggest that this jug is a commemorative piece. 404 A close pair of North Devon pottery jugs each of oviform with raised ribbed neck and applied ribbed strap handle, sgraffito decorated with stylised blooms and foliage beneath a chevron border, each dated 1879 beneath the handle, 15 cm high, glaze losses.
