3-Phase AC Drive Systems For Golf Carts, NEV’s, & LSV’s Why AC Induction Motors? High Torque & High Speed: A key issue with typical DC drive systems is that a choice must be made between high torque and high speed. To get one, you must sacrifice the other. With 18 HP, and more than 81 ft.lbs of torque, our 48V AC drive system conversion kit is unparalleled when it comes to hill climbing power without sacrificing top end speed. With acceleration rates capable of 0-20 MPH in fewer than 4 seconds, and the ability to climb a 20% grade at 15 MPH, this is the most powerful golf cart drive system on the market. Efficiency: Although it has some very powerful performance characteristics, the AC system is also very efficient. With 20-40% less power consumption than DC, drive time will definitely increase. Full Regenerative Braking (Regen): AC regen braking works differently than DC. All of the power produced with AC regen is sent back to the batteries for recharge and long run time. DC regen wastes most of its power getting the motor to produce voltage, that very little, if any, is actually sent back to the batteries. With our AC power conversion systems, as much as 150 amps of regen power are sent back to the batteries. Regen is on demand, unlike DC carts where the regen is activated when the accelerator pedal is released; the regen on an AC powered cart is brought on by applying the brakes. This gives the feel of power brakes and with 70% of your stopping power coming from regen, you can stop the cart much easier and in a shorter distance, making your cart safer to drive. Precise Speed Control: With most DC motor systems, you control the torque of the motor with the accelerator pedal. With an AC drive system, you control the speed of the motor with the pedal, not torque. So, controlled downhill descents are possible without the use of the mechanical brakes. This not only provides a higher level of safety, but also reduces wear and tear on your brakes. Whether you are on flat ground or going downhill, half throttle equals half speed. Street, Golf & Reverse Modes Our AC conversion systems include a golf/street toggle switch, which is usually dash mounted. In street mode, you have access to the full speed of the system, which is 25 MPH. If the switch is toggled to golf mode, the top end speed is reduced to 14 MPH. This is useful for use on the golf course, in crowded areas, or for safety. In reverse mode, toggled by the F-N-R direction selector, speed is reduced to 6 MPH with a slower acceleration as well for safety. Hill climbing power and torque are never reduced regardless of direction or mode. Driver Information: The AC power conversion system has a built in driver information center, primarily used to indicate drive mode and MPH, but capable of many functions, and even on-board diagnostics. The multi-function 2” round gauge shown below will not only display drive mode, but also display MPH/KPH, battery state of charge, time in minutes driven since last charged, battery voltage or RPMS. This gauge can also display on-board diagnostics which we’ll cover later. The red push button is the Menu Button and is used to toggle between options on the multifunction gauge. Directly to the right of the menu button is the Golf/Street mode toggle switch. The key switch is reused from the existing cart and the direction is selected from the F-N-R toggle to the right. All gauges are shown here on an EZGO, while for other brands, the actual position of gauges may vary. Limp Home Mode: With our AC system, performance degrades very little as battery voltage drops, so we have built in a “Limp Home” mode to get you home when the batteries are below 20% .The max speed drops to about 15 MPH to preserve the power you have left, allowing you to maximize your distance. Miles per Charge: The big question is how this kit affects your range. There are many factors that must be considered when considering distance traveled per charge; speed, terrain, vehicle weight, load, type and number of batteries, tire pressure and even if you have a windshield or not. One thing is for sure; you will go farther with an AC system than a DC system, period. 100% Maintenance Free: AC motors do not have any brushes to replace and commutators to resurface as with a typical DC motor system. All of our motors are hand wound for superior quality. High Speed Motor: Our AC motor can run at very high speeds without any possibility of damage. There are no armature windings to sling apart, so motor speeds up to 6000 RPMS will achieve 25 MPH without changing gear ratios in the differential and losing hill climbing power. Safety: Rollaway restraint protection will keep the car from accidentally rolling away on a hill, although the parking brake should always be set as with any other parked golf cart. Brake lights activate during regen braking and turn off once the accelerator is applied. On-Board Diagnostics & Programmability: Through a series of specific switches and procedures, the multi-function gauge can help monitor various aspects of the vehicles for troubleshooting purposes. Should a problem arise, many issues will throw a trouble code displayed on the dash. These codes can easily help track down complex issues. Diagnostics can help determine if there is a problem with the throttle sensor, accelerator micro switch, motor, controller, and many other issues. Minor programming changes such as choosing between Speed and Torque Mode can be adjusted through the dash cluster as well, which changes the feel of how it drives. Gauges are shown on a Club Car below. Flexibility: The system can be tailored to your individual needs. If you want different max speeds, an adjustment to regen braking, a different acceleration style, or any number of things, we can pre-program for you prior to shipping your kit. The AC induction drive system can be installed into virtually any late model golf cart. 48 volts is required and we can even provide a 72V version for additional speed upon request. System includes 18 HP 3-Phase AC induction motor, 650A Ac motor controller, wiring harness, dash display, buttons, gauges, controller mounting plate, F-N-R selector, solenoid, and instructions. The system includes a one year warranty on the motor and controller. So, in a nutshell, why choose an AC drive system? High speed & high torque Increased efficiency Full regenerative braking increases range and allows for controlled downhill descents Precise speed control 3 Modes: Golf (14 MPH) / Street (25 MPH) / Reverse (6 MPH) Dash mounted driver information center Limp home mode to conserve power when charge gets low Increased range on a charge 100% maintenance free High speed 6,000 rpm motor, 18 HP Increased safety through rollaway protection and regen braking Complete on-board diagnostics, troubleshooting & programmability Flexibility for many vehicles and application needs And don’t take our word for it.
