News from the Pasadena, Texas Chamber of Commerce www.pasadenachamber.org CHAIRMAN LETTER September, 2014 Vol. 25 No. 9 Mission Statement “Promote Economic Development and Community Growth to ensure the prosperity of Pasadena’s businesses and citizens.” Our Mission Statement “To promote economic development and community growth to ensure the prosperity of Pasadena’s businesses and citizens” Thank you all for the continued support of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce. Fall is Rick Guerrero Chairman of the Board just around the corner, classes are in full swing and students are in training to follow in many of your footsteps. I hear from the meteorologists cooler temperatures will be here soon, what a great time to be in Pasadena. I recently attended the Petrochemical Maritime Outlook Conference sponsored by Economic Alliance Houston Port Region at the Pasadena Convention Center; looks like the future is bright for Pasadena and surrounding communities. Every speaker from a United States Senator, Congressman, State and County officials and local Mayors all outlined the thousands of jobs being created in our community within the next few years. Our sons, daughters and grandchildren will all benefit from our robust local economy with good paying jobs. We all need to work together to keep Pasadena strong and vibrant for future generations; join an organization and get involved in our future. Join the Pasadena Chamber or a similar organization in your area to keep jobs and prosperity coming to our families and community. We are your voice and source of information for Pasadena. Stop by our office and visit with one of our talented staff members for information about what the Pasadena Chamber can do for you. Hope to see you soon, Rick Guerrero, Chairman of the Board From the President In this issue of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Newsletter... • Chairman Letter, pg. 1 • From the President, pg. 1 • 2014 Pasadena Rodeo Event Schedule, pg. 2 • Pasadena Hispanic Business Council, pg. 2 • Membership 101, pg. 3 • Taste of the Town, pg. 3 • August Luncheon, pg. 4 • Sock Hop Wrap-up, pg. 5 I am blessed to have been selected as the President/CEO for the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and consider it a privilege to be entrusted with the future of our chamber. It has been a busy, yet productive first month! I appreciate the outpouring of support and openness of so many of our Cristina Burt Womack members. The first few weeks President/CEO have included history lessons of long time members, strategy meetings with PISD, City of Pasadena, and San Jacinto College along with attendance at Economic Alliance, Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, Rotary, Kiwanis, and Education Foundation meetings locally. I’ve also had the opportunity to network among peers and gain valuable knowledge in the chamber industry at Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives Seminar. Rest assured the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce is abreast of what is going on within our community both locally and nationally! We want our members to be confident in the fact that your entire Chamber Staff is here to support you, so know that if the phone is ringing it’s because we are helping other members! I am eager to get to know our members and their needs more intimately while providing an enjoyable, meaningful experience as your President/CEO. It is an exciting time in Pasadena and we have a unique opportunity to make a real impact within our great city! I invite you to each engage in just one thing the Chamber offers and allow it to make a difference for you. Opportunities include serving on a committee, sponsoring an upcoming event, marketing in a chamber publication, attending a luncheon or if you’re not sure how to best maximize your investment join us for our next Membership 101 on October 9th. If there is anything I can do to enhance your chamber experience please let me know! Working together, we can continue to Build Business and Support Community. CHILI September 25-27, 2014 Chamber of Commerce Pasadena Hispanic Business Council Business owners have to make decisions every day. Some days those decisions are easy and some days those decisions seem to have to be made between a “bad and worse” choice. Since it is not possible to look into the future to see the results of our decisions, the following may help to make a decision easier to make. Pasadena Chamber of Commerce 2014 Executive Board 1. Do not make a decision to early and/or without all the fact. Some business owners tend to make quick decisions—just to alleviate the problem. If a decision does not have to be made immediately, wait to receive more facts. More information leads to a more informed decision. Rick Guerrero Chairman of the Board ARG Real Estate 2. Understand that no decision is the “right” decision. The decision made is the best decision at the time. Cary Bass Chairman Elect Bass & Meineke 3. Do not waiver after the decision has been made. Your decision has been made with careful consideration and now is the time to implement the decision and continue forward. Bill Simmons Vice Chairman – Finance St. Luke’s Patients Medical Center Monica Perry Vice Chairman Doctor’s Outpatient Surgicenter Jeanna Barnard Vice Chairman Bayshore Medical Center Being a business owner means having to make decisions. Not making decisions will have a negative impact on your business. Allow yourself the courage to make decisions (even difficult ones) and carry them out. The only way to practice making decisions is to make decisions. PHBC is committed to assist, support and empower Hispanic businesses and community through entrepreneurial development and leadership.
