Using Our Products Mystery Solved! Many modelers have written to tell us how much they like Realistic Water™ for modeling lakes, rivers and other types of water. They appreciate the realism and how easy it is to use on their layouts and with other projects. After a modeler called to tell us he was having a problem with his water features cracking during the drying process, the Woodland Scenics Product Development department quickily went to work to solve this mystery. After months of testing Realistic Water, pouring it under every conceivable condition, our scenery experts discovered that the modeler's problem boiled down to a single common denominator - a vinyl additive in the acrylic paint he used to paint his water feature prior to pouring the Realistic Water. The vinyl reacted adversely to an ingredient in Realistic Water, causing it to crack. In light of this discovery, we recommend using Woodland Scenics Landscape System of products according to instructions when perparing your water feature prior to pouring Realistic Water. Or, if you choose to use a paint or pigment other than Woodland Scenics to color your water feature, make sure it is 100% acrylic. How-to Model Scenery Modeling Realistic Paved Areas When building your layout, make sure to include a variety of roads and paved areas. Matt walks you step-by-step through the process of making roads, a railroad crossing and more! He also gives you some tips and techniques for weathering and adding realistic detail. Modeler Showcase Toot Your Horn This month's Toot Your Horn features the modeling work of Lucio A. Maggio from Italy. You may remember Lucio's work from the May issue of Scenic View in which he shared his scratch-built diorama inspired by Edward Hopper's "Phillies Cafe" painting. This month, he sent us photos of his "Route 66" diorama. Amazing that someone living in Italy can so perfectly capture the nostalgic spirit of that infamous American highway. He also got the architecture just right in his scratch-built service station and roadside cafe. Woodland Scenics AutoScenes "Wayne Recker's Tow Service" and "Felix Fix-a-Flat" bring the scene to life, along with the Woodland Scenics terrain and landscape materials he used to create the cracked pavement and unkept landscape. Thanks for sharing, Lucio! PO Box 98, Linn Creek, MO 65052 Woodland Scenics | PineCar | Scene-A-Rama Sales and Support: 573-346-5555 Copyright © 2011 O CO.
