As a part of participating at the 7th European Congress of Mammalogy,
offered tailor made program for you and your family.
Mikael Vinka has along with his wife Ann-Kristine invited a few small groups during 30 years. Michael, your
host and guide lives his life deeply rooted in the Sami culture. He hunts, fishes, and is also taking part in
mammal inventories. He has also his own of reindeer in the mountains. Over the past decade he has helped
the arctic fox project with his local knowledge about both the mountains and the animals.
During two nights and three days, you are given a opportunity to visit Sapmi - Sameland in Vindelfjällen Swedish Lapland. Here every guest is welcomed as a family member.

Laplandsafari
Day 1
Join a lemming safari in the mountains of Swedish Lapland
and visit a den with hopefully some arctic foxes.
You will be guided and stay with a Sami family (Swedish indigenous people)
into Vindelfjällen, one of Europe's largest protected area.
We pick you up at Arvidsjaur airport for transport to Ammarnäs, a two hour trip.
With mountains on both sides of us we travel into the trackless country to Geunja Sami Ecolodge. Getting the
farm is an experience in itself. Welcome drink and "Sami tapas", then short tour of the farm. The evening meal
is served in front of the fireplace in the Sami kåta where Mikael gives a first ”taste” of nature and Sami culture.
Choose for yourself whether you want to sleep on reindeer skins in Sami teepe (kåta) or in Sami cottage
nestled with sheets.
Summer nights are long and bright ! Possibility of night fishing and canoeing on your own or join a guided
boat trip into the beautiful delta with a fantastic bird and animal life.
Day 2
Vindelfjällen is one of Europe 's largest protected area and classic habitat for the arctic fox. A fantastic area
with beavers, otters, reindeer and moose. The area around Geunja Sami Ecolodge has a calcareous
vegetation with many alpine plants. From the mountain peaks we have a beautiful view down over the delta of
meandering streams and a magnificent mountain scenery. Often we see the golden eagle glide along the
mountainsides in search of food.
Today's highlight! Join a lemming safari and visit a den with hopefully some arctic foxes. We enjoy the
outdoor lunch over an open fire. In the afternoon we return to Geunja Sami Ecolodge for sauna and a three course dinner. Here every guest is welcomed as a family member. Overnight in Sami cottage or Sami Teepe.
Day 3
We end the day at Geunja with a lovely mountain breakfast. Possibility to pack a lunch box to have on the trip
home. Boat and car transportation to the airport. If time is given, we will visit the Sami craftsman on the way to
Arvidsjaur airport. Offer to extend the tour is possible.
