Hi Everyone,
The Holidays are fast approaching. The weather is cooler and the trees are showing off
their beautiful fall colors. This month my trike has been in the shop so I have been on four
wheels. You can always participate on four wheels when you need to. I am looking forward
to having my trike back soon. I hope some of you have been able to enjoy some of the
beautiful fall colors.
It has been a tough time for many of our GWRRA family in the low country and the
Lexington area. Floods destroyed some folks homes. We are fortunate to live in the
upstate as ours was more an inconvenience. Several activities had to be cancelled
including the District picnic on October 3 and our Brookview ride the residents day. I have
spoken with the activities coordinator at Brookview and we will reschedule for the spring
before it gets too hot. I hope the folks from Chapter K will be able to help us then too.
We had a great time at the Halloween party at Butch and Pat’s home. They had added on
a room to their home and we had plenty of room to party. We have two more parties to look
forward to, our Funny money Auction November 14 at the Piedmont Community center and
the Christmas party and gathering at the Elks lodge.
Several of us including Gordon and Bev Miner, Mersadi Anthony, Mike Epperson and
Barbara and Sasha Taylor attended the Region Rally in Eufaula Al. The chapter competed
with newsletter, scrapbook, mascot, costume contest, and banner. Update on region:The
rally is held at the Lakepoint Lodge resort which is a State Park with lovely large lake on
site. There are cabins in the woods and on the lake and the lodge has 93 rooms.
Our group stayed in a cabin in the woods. We had a fun time. Barbara, Mike E., and Sasha
were able to meet many old friends and Gordon and Beverly and Mersadi met some new
ones. Barbara became ill with cold?? allergy?? while there and it was difficult to participate
at times. Originally the plan was to ride the bikes but Barbara was started on new
medicine for diabetes and was not sure how she would react and with bad weather
forecast for Sunday, the day they were returning. Everyone decided to go on four wheels.
The chapter competed in the Costume contest, Mascot, scrapbook, chapter shirt and
newsletter competitions. I am proud to announce that we came in at first place in the
Newsletter and Chapter Shirt competitions. Our Newsletter will go on to the
International competition.
It is all about having “Fun” and enjoying our GWRRA family.
Thanks Everyone
Ride Safe and come and have Fun with us

Hi everyone,
This is a difficult newsletter to write as we have not been able to spend time with our
GWRRA family. We hope everyone is doing well and riding often. As for Buzz and
myself, we are not able to ride until Buzz recovers from his treatments. This has been
the roughest month yet but there is light at the end of the tunnel. We are praying for a
better New Year filled with lots of riding through the countryside and visiting other
chapters.
On October 17th we were able to attend our yearly Halloween party at Butch and Pat
MacGregor's home. We had a great time and it was so nice to spend time with our
Chapter F family. Thank you Butch and Pat for having this event at your home.
On October 24th I attended our Chapter F monthly meeting by myself as Buzz was not
feeling well. Many thanks to Roger and Renee for filling in for Buzz. We are so
appreciative of our Chapter F family for their prayers, caring and helpfulness.
Until we see you all again, please keep us in your prayers and remember to always
have fun and ride safe.

Part Three of Team Riding
Happy Halloween everyone. I hope that you are having a great month so far.
Last month we talked about the lead and what his responsibilities are. This month we will
talk about the person in the back.
Like the lead, we want him to be someone that we trust, respect, and have confidence in.
We also want him to have good judgement and a willingness to follow. If he doesn't want to
be in the back he won't do a good job.
Who do we need? Anyone with the ability and desire can do this. Women are just as able
as the men for any of these roles.
What do we call this person? GWRRA calls them the drag. Not quite the inspiring name I
would like. I prefer tail gunner. This brings to mind someone watching out for danger and
protecting the group.
What do they need to know? Observation should be their key skill. They need to know how
to watch the lead, they are a team that works together to ensure the safety of the group.
They need to watch the group as a whole to make sure that it is performing as it should.
They need to watch the individuals to make sure there is no problem with one of them.
They need to watch the motorcycles to make sure there are no mechanical problems
developing. And of course they need to watch traffic.
Communication is just as important to the tail gunner as it is to the lead. Both to the group
and to the individual.
The tail gunner is responsible for watching the group during the ride. He controls the speed
of the ride. If there are traffic problems, people problems, motorcycle problems, anything
that causes the group to fall behind, the tail gunner communicates to the lead to slow down
or stop until the situation can be dealt with. The tail gunner is in control of the ride.
These skill can be learned through GWRRA in their Road Captain course. This gives both a
classroom and practical instruction. After that practice by applying what has been learned.
Next month we will tie it all together and talk about the people in the middle and their
responsibilities. And also how all the parts work together for a safe ride
Be safe, don't be sorry

Hello everyone!
We had a great time at our Halloween Party. Thank you all for attending. A few of you
seemed to enjoy seeing our "family" pictures.
Now we are looking forward to the rest of the holidays. The auction is approaching
and we all have funny money to spend and Susan has put forth a shopping effort for all
of us to benefit. She likes shopping now it is our time to shop! Butch is trying to decide
what to cook . . . I am trying to find out what time I can join in the fun.
We were at Ingles today and we got some fish to smoke and the young clerk behind
the meat counter was asking if she could help us and Butch said he wanted to smoke
some fish and wondered if they had any papers that would fit. It was way over her
head as she did not get our humor about the papers. She did not seem to know about
"papers". LOL!!
Butch is recovering from his battle with the driveway. Several of church family were
complementing me on my right hook. He has a sense of humor to joke in the face of
adversity. He fell and my first aide training kicked in, although I forgot to ask for his
permission to help, I just jumped in. The hospital staff seemed to be impressed with
the fact that we seemed prepared to go to the hospital and were calm. Thank you
Barbara for the training.
Sorry we missed the October meeting, and we look forward to spending our funny
money in November. Mickey really knows how to print it!

CO - RIDER’S POINT OF VIEW
Exactly what should a Co-rider expect when they climb aboard a bike or trike? I expect a well
trained driver, a well-maintained vehicle and a shared vision of the ride ahead and good
communication.
By definition (my own), a well-trained driver is someone who understands that our skills are
perishable and practices regularly, as well as takes part in on-bike training. A plus would be
that we are current in the Level IV Master’s Program offered by GWRRA. (We are Life Grand
Master #18 and #176.)
A well-maintained vehicle is one that is clean, runs like a fine-tuned instrument and has
enough trunk space to hold rain gear, a first aid kit and emergency road necessities (cool
water in hot weather). As for luggage space, there should probably be a nice trailer for hauling
clothes, emergency food and water and a toolbox. Oh, and to carry things we acquire on our
adventure ... kind of like a very large purse!
Well-informed communication would include full disclosure of plans about where we are going
and how we will get there. Assuring a great adventure ahead would be attending a drivers
meeting if we are traveling in a group or good conversation between the two of us prior to
getting on the motorcycle (or into the car). Do we both share the vision of where we are going,
how we will get there and understand the route. Are we alert, fed, hydrated and feeling good?
I don’t mind inclement weather. Sometimes we don’t know in advance exactly how the wind
will blow or what direction the clouds may take. I appreciate riding in a group when one person
is in charge of the good weather. That way I have someone to blame if it rains!
As a Co-rider, we need our eyes and ears to be very in tune with our driver. We need to be
able to respond to whatever is necessary to make the trip safer. Wearing “All The Gear All The
Time” is critical to protecting all the valuable parts, enjoying the ride and staying alive.
If we see something we assume is horrific, don’t gasp or scream into the intercom ... try to stay
calm and make a sensible statement. Practice your safe riding skills. Don’t become an
obstacle but do be an active participant in learning directional skills, how to read a map and
how to use the intercom (remembering that it isn’t a telephone!). Have you learned about the
extended 24 inches of peripheral vision the Co-rider gives to the driver?
I always try to finish our ride by remarking to the driver, “Thanks, Honey, for another safe and
fun ride.” I’ve been the Co-rider for over 30 years and put my faith and trust completely in my
choice of driver. I thoroughly enjoy the comfort of the back seat and my job as Co-rider. I am
really looking forward to our next ride together. As they say, it’s not the destination that is
important; it’s the ride to get there! By the way, don’t forget to wave!
Thank you, Sandi, for helping to salute all our Lady Riders and Co-riders out there on the road. We
thank you for your interest and expertise in helping us all to ride safer and have FUN!

you would like to join our team just speak to Barbara or any team member. We still need
a ride coordinator.
We had a lot of fun at our Halloween

Thursday October 22, 2015 was a special day for me. My youngest brother David and his wife
Cathy were up visiting from Florida. We met for lunch at 11:00 AM at Hog Wild a barbecue
restaurant in Clarkesville Ga. Cathy and I had some wonderful catfish and David had the pulled
pork everything was delicious. We had a great time visiting and the weather was perfect and our
waitress was really nice. David and Cathy headed back to NC to go horse back riding with
Cathy’s mom and Sasha and I headed for home.
On our way home a received a call from one of Chapter “F” long time members Rusty and Pat
Fuller. They had decided it was such a beautiful day they jumped on their trike and headed up to
Helen Ga. They invited me to join them at the Hog gap grill.
Sasha and I headed there as we only live 10 miles form there. The day was clear and
comfortable so we sat outside and visited. Rusty and Pat are great folks and always a pleasure to
be around. We visited awhile and then they were going to head back home by heading further
north and then hit Clayton and take highway 76 back home.
It was such a beautiful day that Sasha and I decided to look for some fall color. I headed up
towards Hiawassee and then I saw the sign to Brasstown Bald
and decided to head up that
way. It is about six miles up a
twisting road to the park.
Brasstown Bald is the highest
point in Ga. There was beautiful
color on the way up. They do

center. Last year I took the
chapter to Brasstown Bald and it was foggy and we could not see a thing even though the parking
lot was clear. I wish we would
have had a day like this when I
took the chapter! You could see
forever. The folks working there
at the park are really nice. The
bus driver is exceptional. They

of the area.
The only thing I had planned this day was the visit with my brother. I am thankful that I was able
to be flexible and “go for the gusto”. I had a wonderful time with my family, then a great time with
some of my GWRRA family. Then topped the day off enjoying some of God’s and man’s beautiful
handiwork on the mountain. I encourage everyone “to go for the gusto” get out and enjoy life as
much as possible. Thank you for my family and my GWRRA family and the beauty in nature.

The Adventures of Goody
and Goofy
As told to Renee dent
Goofy
Goody
Hi Everyone, and Hellooooooooo,
This month Goody and Goofy both went home with Eugene and Renee.
They are still working on the house so we watched them do some work.
They finally finished the tile floor. Sometimes we just looked at each other
and wondered what we could get into.
We also watched some TV with Eugene and just chilled out. They took us
to his brother’s house to eat dinner and watch a funny movie.
We attended two chapter events the dinner ride to Harbor Inn and Chapter
SC A gathering. Eugene put us in a booth with him and we saw Barbara
give the Hot Potato to JW chapter director of SC - A. Everyone seemed to
enjoy the seafood.
Next we attended the Halloween party at Butch and Pat MacGregor’s
home. The decorations inside and outside were
great. Some of them were a little scary to us so
we stayed close together. (safety in numbers!)
We dressed up in our pirate outfits and did have a
sword if we needed it. Let me tell you there were
some strange characters. The Pillsbury dough boy
with his inflatable suit was really something. We
had three red riding hoods, I think they needed a

the Chapter Halloween party.
Everybody had fun, there were cowboys and girls
with real guns? It was fun and we left there with all our parts. Yea!
Wonder who will get us next month??
Take care everyone.

We started the month by visiting our friends at

Our next event was the Chapter dinner ride and we went
to Harbor Inn and Chapter SC - A gathering. Again
Barbara had the hot potato sitting out in plain site. The
plan was to give it to Chapter - E but when Barb found
out Chapter - A had not received it this year she
presented it to JW the Chapter Director.
The next night we visited Chapter - E
in Simpsoville SC.
So now I have new chapter bars for
my vest. I still need the chapter bar from SC - A.

My next big event was the Chapter “F”

costumes. Dracula kind of scared me. I did
not know what to think of the Pillsbury dough

with a battery operated fan.

Next was the monthly chapter gathering with a

fun playing the eyeball game. Mom was not good at it
but had lots of fun.
