MEMORY FOAM
By its design, the choice of its components and the care applied throughout the manufacturing process,
the thermosensitive «PHARMAFORM» memory foam has proved to be a top-of-the-range-product for bedsore
prevention, comfort and hygiene requirements.
«PHARMAFORM» clinical trials were carried out on famous rehabilitation French sites.

Slow-resilience memory foam takes an imprint of the body shape, follows its
contour and maintains a floating state. So the distribution of pressure is optimised
on the entire surface and the shearing areas are reduced. Thus, the pressure points
are minimized and the blood circulation is more effective.
The memory foam «PHARMAFORM» enhances comfort and is also well-known for
its soothing properties which provide a natural relaxing feeling.

FLEXI FORM
12
The innovative design of the FLEXI FORM mattress considerably reduces the risks of bedsores forming in the most exposed
areas which are the sacrum, occiput and heels. The cavities of the base in high resilience foam absorb a bigger part of
the patient’s weight and considerably reduce compression of the memory foam in the sacrum, occiput and heel zones.

PRESSURE SORE PREVENTION
18
Definition of pressure ulcer
A pressure ulcer is an ischemic ulceration of the skin caused by prolonged, excess pressure between the soft tissue over bony
prominences of the body and a support surface. This continuous, excess pressure can hinder blood circulation and lead to the
formation of a pressure ulcer.
There are four different stages of pressure ulcer, from simple erythema to deep tissue necrosis (NPUAP classification).

The pressure exerted on tissue can be doubled:
- by shearing, which is responsible for stretching blood vessels.
This stretching, which reduces blood flow, is caused by the pelvis
sliding down along the support surface.
- by friction (force exerted between 2 surfaces moving against
each other) Friction is responsible for initially opening the skin.

To prevent shearing and friction, the person must be repositioned correctly in his or her chair.
Removing pressure causes hyperemia (increase in blood flow) to occur locally. This reaction is temporary and lasts depending on
how long the tissue was subjected to pressure.

The primary physiopathogenic risk factors are:
- Reduced mobility
- Deterioration of microcirculation
- Deterioration of skin with:
- loss of thickness of dermis and epidermis
- loss of elasticity between the dermis and epidermis
- Sarcopenia (loss of lean body mass)
- Malnutrition (change in dietary intake due to a dysregulation
of the sensory functions or difficulty chewing)

or the person's general state of health requires a change
in preventive measures.
21
Choice of support surface
Choosing the support surface depends on:
- the person's morphotype (relation between weight/morphology)
- the risk factor assessment (Braden or Norton scale)
This support option requires a set of preventive measures:
- Proper adjustment of the chair, suited to the user's morphology
- Proper positioning of the chair (relieving pressure on the
sacrum, no sliding, etc)
- an alternation between seated posture every 2 to 3 hours,
an upright standing position or walking to maintain muscle mass
- a skin inspection (regular change of protective elements,
skin hydration, etc)
- a balanced diet (quality and quantity
The role of support surfaces
The different support surfaces are designed to reduce pressure
on at-risk zones by distributing body weight uniformly over the
entire contact surface. Less pressure significantly reduces the risk
of pressure ulcers forming. Pressure is reduced thanks to:
- the material's elasticity for products made with viscoelastic foam
- the proper distribution of pressure areas by increasing surface
contact
- a reduction in the sources of friction and shearing, facilitated by
the cushion's contour, which ensures that the pelvis is supported
properly.
General information on covers
General information on foam types
Viscoelastic foam is a memory foam that molds to the body
by adopting the form of the bony prominences. It reduces
the number of pressure points by distributing them over a
more uniform contact surface.
Covers must be soft and supple enough to prevent friction and
shearing. They must allow area to breathe between the support
surface and the patient's body in order to avoid excess moisture
from forming. For incontinent patients, an impermeable cover
is necessary to prevent the support surface from deteriorating.

CUSHION
The PRIMA PLOT cushion made from viscoelastic memory foam adapts to a person's
morphology by molding around the sacrococcygeal and ischial area. The foam's mechanical
properties ensure that the pelvis is stabilized on the seat while increasing a person's comfort
in the sitting position.
The high resilience foam support block ("PLOT") is designed to prevent abnormal positions,
stabilize the seated position and reduce retraction of the lower limbs.
Its anatomical shape follows the contour of the thighs, and its depth can be adjusted.
Proper alignment of the lower limbs has an
influence on the positioning of the pelvis.
This is thus one of the criteria that must
be taken into account in the prevention of
pressure ulcers.
Indications
Care tips
Use suitable for persons with retraction of the
adductor muscles of the hips and thighs.
This cushion is an effective and less traumatizing
alternative to compression.

The KALLI Visco cushion is anatomically shaped in memory foam in order to adapt to a
person's morphology.
It ensures increased pelvic stability and good distribution of pressure while providing comfort
in the proper sitting position. It successfully provides a natural and comfortable feel.
I recommend Kalli Visco for people who
need anatomic contouring for sitting
correctly in the chair. This cushion prevents
the risk of pressure ulcers from forming
due to poor positioning of the pelvis and
lower limbs.

The ISKIO Visco cushion is made entirely of memory foam with different bearing capacities.
Thanks to the viscoelastic foam characteristics, this technical cushion is able to provide
optimum distribution of pressure.
The memory foam insert enables the cushion to mold around the buttocks, thus ensuring
that pressure is relieved around the bony prominences in at-risk areas. The rear cutout and seat

I recommend the Iskio b-m cushion for
people with a tendency to slide forward
or to the side. A correct sitting position
improves functional stability and allows the
patient to perform everyday
activities more easily.
b-m CUSHION
The ISKIO b-m cushion is made of memory foam with a high resilience foam insert.
Thanks to its numerous beneficial features, this technical cushion is able to provide a better
distribution of pressure.
The high resilience foam insert increases the weight-bearing capacity for certain areas in
order to ensure that pressure is relieved from bony prominences in at-risk areas. This is
done by distributing pressure to lower risk areas such as the thighs, lesser trochanters and
along the periphery of the buttocks.
- The crural incline prevents retroversion of the pelvis (pelvis sliding forwards)
- The rear cutout and seat shape are specifically designed to relieve pressure in the
ischial and sacrococcygeal areas while preventing the cushion from "bottoming out", thus
increasing the comfort of the seated person. This cushion, particularly due to its 10.5 cm height,
is suited to persons who remain seated in chairs for long periods of time.

The positioning backrest improves a person's comfort in the sitting position and creates
an interface between the person's back and the back of the chair. Situations in which back
discomfort exists are likely to result in the user sliding on the seat of the chair.
I recommend the Kalli Dos to persons
with a risk of localized excess pressure
linked to a deterioration in the curvature of
the spine or a tendency to tilt their torso
sideways due to a slight postural deficit.
Thanks to its many beneficial features, this backrest:
- reduces the pressure felt by the chair's frame and seatback fabric.
- adopts to the person's morphology, even in cases of kyphosis
- reduces the areas of friction
- provides comfort throughout the day, everyday

all Expert advice from Sonia Baudry
Occupational Therapist
H.R. CUSHION
The KALLI H.R. provides the optimum solution to comfort problems related to sitting in a
wheel chair or regular chair. Made with High Resilience foam, the KALLI H.R. provides
the support necessary for improving posture over the long term. Due to its ergonomic shape,
the KALLI H.R. helps to achieve comfortable positioning.
I recommend the Kalli H.R. to mobilityimpaired persons or those who remain in
a seated position for prolonged periods
of time.

BEDSORE PREVENTION & POSITIONING
Proper positioning is crucial in the prevention of pressure ulcers. Due to the material it is made up of, the POZ’ IN’ FORM® cushions
offer all the required features in bedsore prevention. The combination of a micropore fabric and a bi-elastic and breathable
Pharmatex cover offers a maximum breathability of the cushion. The filling made of thin microfiber perfectly fits the body
shape with slow release, ensures optimal pressure distribution and contributes to a significant reduction in friction and
shearing forces.

Effective positioning
POZ’ IN’ FORM® cushions are designed to perform various support and comfort functions to long-term bedridden people. The microfibers
prevent creep effects that are regularly observed in classical positioning and from early deterioration of the support. The various
forms, sizes and models of POZ’ IN’ FORM® allow a wide range of positioning possibilities.
Positioning confort
The highly effective positioning cushions reinforce proper positioning of the long-term bedridden by improving abnormal posture, by
providing even weight distribution and by preventing pressure sores while implementing security of use and limiting microbial infections.
Pharmatex cover
The Pharmatex bi-elastic (205 g/m²) covers are removable and washable.
The breathabilty of the Pharmatex (> 500 g/m²/24h – 37°C/65 R.H) significantly reduces maceration.
Lenzing FR® cover
Lenzing FR® cover keeps the body dry and cool, heat stress and heat stroke can be avoided. Produced from wood, a natural
raw material, Lenzing FR® offers bacterial growth protection (99,1% reduction according AATCC 100 Method) and comfort. The
inherent FR solution provides a great degree of breathability for a long and intensive use. The Lenzing FR® cover is waterproof,
stretchable and flame resistant (EN 597; BS 7175 - Crib 7).

FIBRE HEEL and ELBOW SUPPORTS
47
The articles of the PHARMA FIBRES range are made from 100% hollow silconised polyester fibre. The silicon allows
the fibres to slide against each other and thus avoid cutting the material and fabric. Each strand of the fibre is in fact
a cylinder into which air circulates freely. This airing increases the ventilation of the supports.
The heel supports and elbow supports are covered with 100% anallergic cotton fabric.
They are fastened by a self-gripping tab.

WHAT USE ! • WHAT PURPOSE!
ABDOMINAL and PELVIC BELT
The safety belt round the abdomen and between the
legs restricts forward movements and keeps an upright
position. The strap keeps the patients’ thighs apart
(placed in abduction) and brings comfort at hip level,
thus avoiding sliding forward.
PELVIC HARNESS
The different systems answer the need to maintain
hold in the wheelchair, combining the effectiveness of
the pelvic holder and the harness. The appliance moves
with the patient following the degree of agitation. It
avoids the risk of injury or strangulation in the case of
the patient slipping or of forward or lateral movements.
CHEST HARNESS
Made up of a belt and shoulder straps, it helps prevent
forward falls. The fastenings support the shoulders
comfortably and the abdominal strap holds the system
in place. The chest harness is adapted for all types of
wheelchair and we advise it for people who are a little
agitated.
ABDOMINAL BELT
The abdominal belt is perfectly suitable for situations
of simple hold. It limits antero-posterior movements.
PELVIC HOLDER
The pelvic holder prevents any forward sliding of
the pelvis and ensures a comfortable seat. Besides, it
considerably reduces the risk of shearing and arterial
constriction.
49
VEST HARNESS
The vest harness with “anti-kyphosis” straps avoids and
greatly reduces chest collapse of the patient.
HARNESS
Through its design, the immobilisation harness,
consisting of arcromioclavicular straps and a belt or a
pelvic strap, avoids thoracic collapse in the patient and
forward movements.
BED BELT
Where mobility is a problem, the bed belt can satisfy
different degrees of posture and immobility. It can
temporarily keep people in position while keeping
high mobility or totally immobilise a patient with an
aggressive demeanour.
Easily fitted on the bed by a quick fastening system,
this belt can be used for back, side and front postures.
It is suitable for people who are a little agitated, elderly
or disorientated who could fall at any time and also
prevents aggressive behaviour.
WRIST AND ANKLE STRAPS
Through the quality of the materials used, the wrist and
ankle straps ensure that bruises and injuries caused by
attempts to wrench them off, are avoided.
ARMSLING
Comfortable, it provides a good support and
immobilisation of the arm and of the forearm in the
position “elbow close to body”.
ARPEGIA
50
Armchair and bed support straps
The quick fastening system ensures safe and permanent securing of ARPEGIA belts. In all cases, a single buckle links two,
three or four ties and permits easy buckling of the entire system.
Made of a knitted composite of cotton, polyester and polyamide, ARGEGIA belts/straps are comfortable and soft. They prevent
hard material-related injuries. The scottish tartan fringe provides a proper support to the whole system.
100% polyester fabric straps link the belt to the buckles.
The ARPEGIA belts, chest and pelvic harnesses are also suitable for wheelchair, comode or resting armchair.
An ARPEGIA ventral belt for bed keeping is also available.
The ARPEGIA belt design integrates the basic principles of support and immobilisation:
• Easy set up,
• Safety of use,
• Comfort and swiftness,
• Respect for patients.
MATERIALS
As daily life aids,
ARPEGIA belts and straps improve handicap management.

Composed of a belt and two braces, it prevents risks of forward falls, the patient
being maintained at shoulder level by the braces attached to the wheelchair
armrests. Neoprene fittings ensure comfortable support of the shoulders.
The abdominal strap which passes below the armrests provides proper steadiness
of the system. The patient is swiftly released by action on the clips. It adapts to all

It is in the form of a complete nappy changing set. It eliminates
risks of arterial compression and shearing. Its buckling system
makes it impossible for patients to release it themselves. A single
clip enables a third person to free the patient. The pelvic holder
prevents any slipping and ensures comfortable sitting by supporting
the patient by the pelvis. Its ergonomic design provides an excellent
distribution of bearing points.
This system meets the requirements for keeping patients on a resting
chair by combining the pelvic holder and harness effectiveness. It
adapts to the patient’s degree of agitation. The harness remains in
place on the armchair. No risk of injury or strangulation by slipping
or by forward and lateral movements. Braces tie up to the panties.

HOSPITAL GOWNS
Hospital gowns are useful for patients confined to bed or in hospital. By their crossover cut at the back, without any fastening
or ties, these gowns keep the privacy of the patients.
The gowns with zip allow the hospital staff to carry out treatments, attach drips …. without the patient having to move.
The gowns with zip or without zip have two fastenings allowing better adjustment at the neckline to avoid problems for
the patient at neck level.

ESPRIT NATURE
Pharmaouest Industries has designed a complete product line of mattresses, pillows and cushions using raw materials from
agriculture. Castor oil and bamboo fibres replace a part of the traditional components of foam and fabric.

ratio. Bamboo fibres are 100% recyclable and dispose of antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.
Esprit Nature by Pharmaouest Industries combines comfort and well-being with social and ecological responsibility. In order
to provide an optimal rest to the user, Pharmaouest Industries associated the innovative Outlast® System to the different
