Principal’s Message
Spirit of God,
Dear Parents and Friends,
give us the openness, deep within us
Girls who participated in last week's Energy Breakthrough at
Maryborough had a fantastic experience and were great ambassadors
for the school. We had three teams in the race which is judged on
two components. The first is a presentation by the team about their
vehicle and the second component is based on how many laps of the
circuit the team does in 24 hours. Our Year 9 team came second, which
was unexpected given the quality of some of the competitors. Their
presentation to the judging panel was outstanding, so well done to this
team. Congratulations to all the girls involved in this exciting event. A
big thank you to Mr Cherrington who spent many hours in the holidays
and on weekends repairing bikes and sourcing parts. In addition,
together with the girls, he organised fundraising activities and at the race
was the main person in the pit stop to do repairs as the bikes suffered
through the rough and tumble of the race. Many other staff assisted on
the weekend and at sausage sizzles as well as families and friends. My
sincere thanks to all these people.

Next week we have a number of important events. On Monday night the
Music Department are offering two concerts. Girls have been working
hard in preparation for these and we look forward to an entertaining
evening. Information for booking is detailed later in this newsletter. On
Tuesday evening the final meetings for Killester Stewardship Committees
and Council will be held. We have had many parents contribute behind
the scenes to Killester this year. Parents on these committees, as well
as working bees and many other functions have been fantastic in their
involvement to the school and we will celebrate their contributions next
Tuesday.
On Thursday we will be hosting an orientation day for all the new 2016
Year 7 students and on Thursday night we will celebrate our inaugural
Awards Evening. The Awards Evening will be followed by a special
assembly on Friday where Endeavour Awards will be announced. These
two events are acknowledging the efforts and achievements of girls
during the year. Importantly, we have included awards for students who
have exhibited the essence of school spirit and lived out our motto of
Strength and Kindliness.

The annual school fees will be $2130.00 and the Capital Contribution
remains at $215.00.
Camps for next year will be billed to the families as follows:Year 7 Orientation camp is $175.00
Year 9 Outdoor Education camp is $480.00
Year 11 Canberra Trip is $780.00
And the Year 12 retreat is $250.00

the Finance Office and will be posted home with the students reports.
Awards Process 2015
It is with a sense of growing anticipation that Killester’s inaugural Awards
Night is coming next week. Those to be presented with an Academic
Achievement Award or an Honour Award will be presented with theirs on
Thursday night, December 3rd. Those being awarded with an Endeavour
Award will be presented with theirs at a school assembly, Friday
December 4th at 11.00am.
Coming to the End of the School
Year........
Student’s receiving an award must be in attendance to receive it. Letters
announcing which students are the recipients will be sent in the mail on
Friday November 27th.
TiIME TO RETURN THOSE OVERDUE BOOKS!!
Important: Recipients MUST RSVP to the events to ensure the process
runs smoothly.
As the assessment classes are winding up for
2015, it is the perfect time to clean out lockers
and bags and find all those books borrowed
throughout the year. Any overdue books need
to be returned before the end of the year.
Girls are allowed to borrow books for over the
Summer holidays if their overdues are returned.

Music Department Amnesty Box
Hello Everyone,
Do you, or your older sister have something from the Music Department
that has been sitting around the house for years? It should have been
returned but never was? Now is your chance to rectify this.
The Music Department is placing an amnesty box in the front office for
the next two weeks. You can return anything you might have that belongs
to the Killester Music Department ( music, instruments, shirts, etc) and
there will be absolutely no questions asked. Be brave!

Visual Communication Design
Transition
On Wednesday 25th November 2015, the Year
12 VCE VCD class of 2016 travelled into the
city to visit the ‘National Gallery of Victoria’ to
view the Rigg Design Prize which recognises
excellence in contemporary Australian design.
The Rigg Design Prize is the highest accolade
for object and furniture design in Australia.
The triennial prize is awarded to an Australian
designer displaying outstanding creative
achievements in contemporary design practice.
Curated by the Department of Contemporary
Design the Rigg Design Prize establishes a
picture of contemporary Australian design
that is independent, original, and expressive
of contemporary issues and values, the Rigg
Design Prize 2015 exhibition features object
and furniture design that ranges from the
functional to the highly conceptual.
The students were addressed by an educator
from the ‘National Gallery of Victoria’ as they
viewed the exhibition. They were fortunate to
gain an understanding of current contemporary
design in Australia which will be an inspiration
for their folio and analysis work next year.

Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow
As a student at Killester, I, Jessica Hackett, learned that Strength and Kindliness are not
mere words: they are truths to live by. We should all have the moral strength and courage
to be true to who we are and to be welcoming to others.
Returning 15 years later to teach Drama and English has been a fantastic opportunity to
return to a place where such truths are held dear and are experienced every day.
So what does strength and kindliness mean in action beyond the Killester gates? It means
speaking for those who can’t speak; standing for those who can’t stand; walking freely for
those who are not free to walk. I am planning to hand deliver a petition to the House of
Representatives in regards to the rights of asylum seekers in the hope that they can finally
be treated with dignity and respect. And I plan to walk.
I want to show our Parliament - our government - that the people of Australia are kind and
strong. That we are strong enough and kind enough to give welcome to those who most
need it. To do this I will be walking from Melbourne to Canberra to deliver this petition,
obtaining as many signatures as I can along the way. While walking, I will document
through film the ways in which people help me (food, shelter, etc.). I will also visit
organisations and individuals who are helping and supporting asylum seekers and
refugees. I’ll visit people and document stories from those who have settled here. People
who know that Australia is a land of justice and compassion. People we have welcomed.
