Here we go around the mulberry bush again. Since 2010, when the new stretch of Ambassador Caffery Parkway South opened, it sparked one legal territorial battle after another. But last Monday Judge John Trahan denied Broussard city attorney Allan Durand’s request to quash an annexation suit filed in August by city of Youngsville over a 40-foot-by-40 foot strip of property near Heart D Farm Road and LA 89 purchased by the city of Broussard. Basically, the judge ruled in Youngsville’s favor and ruled that their arguments were valid and the suit will have its day in court. Broussard officials say the small area of land outside Brous- sard’s city limits is necessary to place a sewer-lift station. That would aid in extending services to businesses and residents. But Youngsville has always argued that the Broussard annexation is merely a way to prevent future annexation by Youngsville. Annexation is vital for growing cities because it can later provide tax dollars for city coffers. Youngsville City Attorney George Knox wrote in court filings the annexation “serves no purpose to Broussard except to frustrate or impede Youngsville in its annexation efforts.” Durand said Youngsville cannot challenge Broussard’s annexation. Apparently, a court will decide that. George Know, city of Youngsville attorney, said the “big bone of contention is that Youngsville is the only municipality that has the ability to provide them services.” Youngsville had previously annexed property on Hwy. 89 to BUSINESS of the WEEK BLEED/WRAP AREA By Linda Meaux Acadiana Gazette Do you h av e news to share?
