The origins are as sweet as the individuals involved. About three years ago the owner, Edel Patterson, and at that time soon to be daughter-inlaw Cassandra, began the process of wedding dress shopping. The quirky pair along with her other daughter-in-law, Irma enjoyed the experience so much that Edel was inspired. She had always wanted to own a boutique, but the idea had never come into focus until the women began visiting local bridal shops. Cassandra was concentrating on finding the right dress for her big day... but Edel was soaking in every nuance of each visit- noticing things she liked and dreaming of the things she would do differently. Edel immediately began connecting with the bridal business world, creating friendships and drawing a tremendous wealth of wisdom, guidance and counseling from top bridal representatives in the nation, the state and took advantage of the County's local small business advisors. An unforgettable moment for Edel was when she found her store site. On this particular day, Edel’s family in Germany contacted her with the bad news that her favorite uncle may pass away. She collected her emotions by taking a trip to the Havre de Grace Promenade and roaming the streets looking for a store site. "Nothing appealed to me, so I decided to leave. Unfortunately, I was in need of a ladies room break," she laughed. “I was in a hurry, parked and just rushed into La Banque de Fleuve," she added. While inside she met Kim Barth, one of the owners of the event space. Edel briefly shared with her that she was looking for a bridal store site. Kim instantly replied “Don’t go anywhere, God sent you!” Kim had been referred to Edel by her local counselor, Al Henry of the Harford County Economic Development Center, but she never contacted her. Amazingly, there she stood in front of the person who held the key to her business dreams. "The rest is history," Edel said. It took three years of preparation for her vision to be realized, but on October 16, 2015, Edel opened her beautiful boutique on St. John 5 3Harford STYLE Holiday 20154 "We are located in a perfect spot in Harford County... The historic city of Havre de Grace in the midst of La Banque de Fleuve’s wedding venues, surrounded by terrific restaurants, stores and several other wedding vendors. A dream came true!" 1 Edel Juliet Seger 63www.harfordstyle.com4 photography www.photojanestudios.com pictured (l-r) Sara, Sarah, Edel, Letrice & Cassandra Street in Havre de Grace. The business is truly a family affair. Cassandra has taken on the role of manager. While Edel's other daughter-in-law, Irma is always present for the Bridal Expo New York shopping trips, selecting their extensive inventory. Edel's son's Maurice & Daniel were instrumental in the physical creation of the fairy-tale like space Edel and Irma designed. The first thing you notice as you walk up to the shop are the beautiful picture windows filled with faceless mannequins in gorgeous gowns, featuring all types of silhouettes and fabrics. The spacious shop is surprisingly large, with vaulted wood beam ceilings and hardwood floors. The strategically placed windows and gilded metal chandeliers keep the space feeling bright and sunny. The furnishings are minimal but grand in nature. Oversized shabby chic mirrors and plush tufted couches are stylish and functional, creating a comfortable environment for the bride-to-be and her party. Edel's Bridal Boutique prides itself on keeping up with the latest trends, and the gorgeous gowns lining the walls are a sparkling testament to their exquisite taste and touch of European flair. Not only do they carry bridal gowns but also bridesmaids, mothers and special occasion wear . I bought my dress for the 2015 Library Gala at Edel's, and I loved it! I went in 3 days before the event on a whim and was amazed that they had several gorgeous options in my size in stock. I will definitely be back for my next big event!
