Valued Members,
As we say good bye to our Seasonal Members, we begin to prepare for our Summer Programs
to improve long term course conditions. Beginning in May, while the Island Course is closed for
aerification, we will begin to expand some of the tee boxes (specifically #1 & #3 will be done first). This
will give us more turf and teeing ground for better rotation and overall better conditions. Other
exciting plans this summer on the Island will be cutting out contaminated areas in the fairways; our
two year plan is to improve the overall health of the fairways. I think we would all agree that the
Island Greens are some of the best Greens around and our plan is to get the fairways equally as
healthy. This along with improved Tee Boxes will be a great improvement to the Island this summer.
Another exciting Summer Program will be smoothing out the Copperhead Fairways and Greens. This will be accomplished by first aerifying the Greens and Fairways to remove thatch and
organic material and allow proper air flow. Next, the application of top dressing to fill in these
areas will help promote a stronger root system which will be essential for our new turf. Lastly,
we will be rolling these Greens with a 1 ton roller and the Fairways with a 3 ton roller to get them
smooth and in optimal condition. This will be taking place three separate times this summer
during the 100 days of growing season and will ensure the Copperhead Course is right where it
should be one year into the Restoration.
Just as a reminder, we have two great summer offerings starting back up in May. First, “The
Game”, our Thursday, 9-Hole Quota Game, will begin on Thursday, May 19th at 5pm on the
South Course. I hope you will all join us for this fun, weekly Summer Game. Also, The Member
Value Punch Card is back (prepaid card that is good for 10 Guest of Member Rounds) and
available beginning May 1st in all three Golf Shops. Cost of the Card is $514 + tax and is good
at all four courses, anytime or day of the week.

The Incredible Adjustable Driver
A student asked if they should leave their driver on a standard setting and
learn to hit it correctly or adjust it. Custom fitting your irons are designed to return the
clubface to the best position at impact with your swing characteristics, it’s the same for the
driver, but the loft and curvature aren’t fixed which allows versatility on an expensive piece
of equipment. Prior to adjustable drivers, if you performed better with a different driver, you
had to buy a new one, now you just get out the tool and change it.
As an instructor, I prefer a student reduces the counterbalancing moves in their swing instead
of masking bad habits…with that being said if you pay $400 for a driver, tweak it so you can hit
it the way you want to! If you want to understand your swing better, practice with the driver on
a neutral face setting to understand your clubface tendencies and angle of attack.

changed by adjustment or by any other means.

April 13 on Island’s #13. Clark used a
5 rescue club for 142 yards.

Perfect weather and a great Member turnout made
for a successful Pro Shoot Out on Monday, April 4.
The event raised $6,000 for the Innisbrook Associate
Scholarship Fund thanks to the generous donations
made by Innisbrook Members and matching funds
from Dr. Ron Avis and Dick Ferreira.

Eight of Innisbrook’s Golf Professionals participated in
the Shoot out, Bobby Barnes, Dawn Mercer, Kyaw Htet,
Andrew Corry, Don Porter, Jordan Lazenby, Nick Tubby,
Billy Oosting. In the end it was Team Andrew Corry &
Jordan Lazenby that beat out the others and Jordan
Lazenby that won the shoot out.
3. Men will play from the Green tee boxes at each
course. If your age plus handicap is 80 or higher
you can play from the White tees.
Due to the success and popularity of the Pro
Shoot Out, another one will be planned for
spring of 2017.

IMGA/IWGA season winds down, I would like to congratulate all of

The Teen Fitness program continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 pm in April.

Refer a Meeting or Special Event and earn 10%. As an Innisbrook Members, you have
a unique insider’s perspective on our luxurious amenities and facilities. From our exquisite guest rooms and

Everybody wins with Referrals! Members will receive 10% of the total sales for referring new group

“Tough Year on the old Gander”
Our lone Canadian goose remains an icon. He is usually found on the Island course around hole #2
feeding along the fairway. About a year ago his leg was broken, probably by a gator or large turtle.
His landings are now on land instead of water. Today he can be seen limping like an old pirate. His
life has been one of solitude and loneliness since losing his mate many years ago. He has become
a grumpy gander.

Recently a flock of five Canadian Geese paid a visit to Innisbrook. Their approach on the Island
course was very loud with much honking. A nice reunion I though and finally some company. But
the old gander was in no mood to allow others on “his” home turf. The old goose took wing and
chased the five away. They didn’t go too far. The Copperhead course was fine for them. Soon
these Canadians will wing their way home as most do. They will be leaving behind our one lone
icon which enjoys full membership privileges year round.
