If you have not paid your $15.00 annual dues in

The “Never Never” Notchback Avanti
These two Avanti-influenced prototypes, a fastback (left) and
notchback (right), were built by 1962 for possible production in
1964. The cars were built by Pichon-Parat of Paris, and their
Avanti lineage is obvious. As you can see in the first photo
Loewy visited the factory and is posing next to the notchback
model. He is smiling, but we doubt that he could have been very
pleased with the results. In the end, it did not matter as sales
figures from the spring of 1963 cast doubt on the project, and
even Egbert admitted that an all-new car for 1964 was
impossible. Needless to say, these cars were never put into
production, but the steel-bodied prototypes survived.
Canadian Concourse d' Elegance
By Dick LeRoux
Michael Moore is the Director of Automobile Selection of the Canadian Concourse d'
Elegance/Luxury and Supercar Weekend. He contacted Club Avanti Northwest looking to
invite Avanti owners, to display their cars at The Canadian Concourse this year. The event
was held on the weekend of the September 10th & 11th in Vancouver, BC. They featured
the 1963 and 1964 Avanti's.
We won The Shaughnessy Award sponsored by Hagerty. The red 1964 R-2 won best in
show. The Turquoise 1963 belongs to Barney Vinegar. He had never opened the glove
compartment until Sunday the 11th. It was a great time with five examples of the
Studebaker Avanti on the concourse show field.
My lovely wife Judy with “Mr. Studebaker from Canada”, Barney Vinegar!

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is a comedy web series
created, directed and hosted by comedian Jerry Seinfeld and distributed by the
digital network Crackle. The series premiered on July 19, 2012 and most recently
aired its seventh season. Episodes feature Seinfeld introducing a vintage car
selected for a guest comedian, followed by a drive to a pre-selected café or
restaurant for coffee. Episodes diverge from the format spontaneously, as when
Michael Richards implores Seinfeld to take a side street, when Seinfeld returns
after coffee with Carl Reiner to join him for dinner with Mel Brooks—or when car
trouble arises. As of May 2015, the series had been streamed nearly 100 million
times. The show's eighth season premiered on June 16, 2016. It has been renewed
for a ninth season. We are proud to have AOAI Member Michael
Epstein’s beautiful 1964 Studebaker Avanti featured in one of this
season’s best episodes! Check it out at

Jon Myer provided LeMay with the headliner for the restoration of the #1 Avanti. They
specialize in the Avanti and was a factory stocking parts dealer and warranty shop from
69-91 in Los Angeles. If you check the little book in glove box on any of these cars you
will see us listed in there. We have parts back to about 36-38 but Avanti is our specialty. I
own 14 plus have 10-12 parts Avanti here. We, my son, has been restoring them for over
25 years now and we have 4 full body off frame restorations plus engine builds, paint
jobs, plain service and tune up etc. Here right now. Cars are from all over U.S.; he has
been doing this now since age 9 helping me and now took over 20 some years ago when
I went into parts, he is now 46 years old. We have over 24K square feet of floor area. We
supply a lot of the Avanti parts in SI catalog plus a lot of other items listed, Ed and I are
currently working on getting 63-64 and early Avanti II sun visor’s done. Money has been
sent and samples received. We went together on p/window motors, 63 sill plates, and
several emblems for hawks and 55 s\Speedster and the wiper arms for Avanti. parts plus
we rebuild super chargers, carbs, dist. convert to electronic; rebuild all p/steering
components, heater control valves and wiper motors, plus a lot of other stuff.
Steve's Auto Restoration, 4440 SE 174th, Portland, 503-665-2222. (I've had brakes,
tune-up, and other mechanical maintenance done here, although their main business
seems to be hot rods. A large and professional shop.)
Classic Auto Restoration, 17319 SE Blanton, Milwaukie, OR, 503-230-7970 (My original
choice, very good conscientious work, reasonably priced, but he's now operating out of a
big garage attached to his home, which is further away from where I live).
Jim's Upholstery, 14912 SE Cedar Ave., Milwaukie, OR, 503-708-6302 (He did a
beautiful job replacing the upholstery in my Avanti, above and beyond what it might
have been. Dave Gay Portland, OR
I did have my 1983 Avanti II rebuilt by Metal Works (John Manila-Owner) in Eugene and
they did an excellent job. (metalworksclassics.com) Pretty much frame up. One thing I
still need is the small worm gear block for the moon roof. If you have any ideas please
let me know. Phil Groshong RQB 3726
