The charity was set up in 2007 by a group of friends based in the UK and Nepal who believe that just as the ocean starts with a single drop of water, a big difference can be made in a child‟s life if many people commit to dedicating a little time and effort. In March 2008 My Small Help (MSH) became a registered NGO in Nepal. Now, MSH is also registered NGO in Peru where underprivileged and disable children are helped. My Small Help UK was set up as a trust to support the work carried out in Nepal; administrative costs are kept to a minimum ensuring that donations are used directly on projects to help underprivileged children. My Small Help Nepal offers a wealth of local knowledge and contacts, and works primarily with volunteers who have the real interests of children close to their heart. This document is designed to give an overview of the charity‟s achievements and progress from 2007 to 2011. It will offer insight into activity, and outline the vision, hopes and dreams for now, and in the future. Mission Statement My Small Help has a strong focus education and health of children. Vision MSH believes that the best way to alleviate poverty amongst children is through the provision of sustainable education and training. Many children who currently live in poverty are unable to go to school at all; this may be because parents can‟t afford to send them, or because the parents need to send them to work to supplement the basic household income. MSH believes that extending a helping hand to these youngsters is a joint responsibility; for life to be in perfect balance those with surplus and sufficiency offer support to those who lack. MSH will continue to provide support to orphaned children, street children, and children from impoverished families who cannot fund school uniforms, stationery, and fees. We hope that through thinking Big and asking Small we can make a difference to the lives of our brothers and sisters. We believe that „It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.‟ Core Values Small Help: A little help from many can give children basic human rights Child Focus: The best interests of children always come first Integrity: Trust and close partnership work is key Trust: Close working relationship with small „in country‟ teams Annual Report 2012 My Small Help, Nepal A Social Welfare Organisation Commitment: work Keep overheads low channelling maximum funds to child focussed MSH seeks to promote basic rights of children including: Right to be protected from physical, mental and sexual abuse and exploitation Right to a name and nationality from birth Increased accessibility rights for children who are disabled Right to education and opportunity Right for basic health care Achievement in 2012 Fusion Rock Musical Concert With the illuminated light and the heavenly arrangement in Basantapur Durbar Square in New Year 2012 the event named Fusion Rock was organized by WE International in honor of our beloved member Mr. Amit K.C who lost his life in an accident. The entire funds collected were used to support the needy families through selfsustainable projects. Sheltered in a small hut with the two daughters with the little prospect of improving their lifestyle through her current employment, MSH Nepal discussed alternative options with Jamuna. Jamuna came up with an idea of starting a small grocery and vegetable shop. To help with the start-up; MSH provided funding for furniture, grocery, vegetables and the initial six months‟ rent. Anjali and Alisha are sponsored by MSH for the past five years. Anjali has already finished her SLC (School Leaving Certificate) examination and now goes to the college. Anjali attend morning classes and helps her mother to run the shop at daytime. This allows her mother to take time in the afternoon to weave carpets. Anjali does her homework and household chores as well as manages the shop. Anjali want to work as an accountant in the future so she has opted for Commerce faculty. The self-sustainable project of MSH has brought renewed hope for the family of Anjali and we would like to continue the project and help them to succeed.
