Points of Interest and Things to Do While in Beacon Taxi Service Beacon is a walking city however cabs will come in handy when traveling to the venue which is the University Settlement Camp-724 Wolcott Ave. or to further points. There are currently a few cab companies available to visitors: Beacon Cab Service, 845-625-6422, Empire Transportation, 845-831-4444, and Clearport Limo & Taxi, 845283-7288. Cabs will usually cost you between $6-$8 going anywhere in the city of Beacon. A. Beacon Train Station If you are traveling via train from New York City to Beacon this is where you will arrive and depart. The MTA train schedule can be found here. The walk from the train to Main Street is just less than 1 mile. The walk can be nice on a sunny day however the walk is up a long hill. You can also take the Loop which is bus service from the train station to various locations in Beacon. It only runs Mon-Sat and a schedule can be found here. Taxis are also available and normally charge $7 or $8 depending on where you are headed in town. B. Farmers Market on Sundays from 10am-3pm The Beacon Farmers’ market takes place on Sundays from 10am-3pm right next to the train station. The market includes organic fruit and vegetables in addition to food venders. C. Scenic Hudson’s Long Dock Park This is a great spot to experience the Hudson River. Kayaks are available for rental and there is a very nice hiking trail that hugs the Hudson River. D. Riverfront Park Another great place to experience the Hudson River with beautiful views of the Beacon/Newburgh Bridge. E. Dia Beacon Occupying a former Nabisco box printing factory on the banks of the Hudson River, Dia:Beacon presents Dia’s collection of art from the 1960s to the present as well as special exhibitions, new commissions, and public and education programs. Since its opening in May 2003, Dia:Beacon has helped transform the city of Beacon into a vibrant arts destination for visitors from the region, New York City, and beyond. F. Dennings Point A 1.2 mile hiking trail that starts at Long Dock Park winding along the banks of the Hudson River. G. Hiking Mount Beacon The trail to Mount Beacon's summit, a shade over a mile and steadily uphill, follows a winding road that passes some lovely rock formation with a stunning view of the Hudson River Valley at the top. With patio seating out back, it is one of our favorite spots to hit on a nice sunny afternoon. J. Cafe Amarcord $$ American (New) 276 Main St Beacon, NY 12508 Phone number (845) 440-0050 One of our favorite places for great food and service on our date nights. K. Yankee Clipper Diner $$ Diners 397 Main St Beacon, NY 12508 Phone number (845) 440-0021 If you like old-school diners, this is your spot. No thrills breakfast food that gets it done. L. Draught Industries $$$ Bars 394 Main St Beacon, NY 12508 Specifically created for the beer nerd in all of us. The owner Nick goes above and beyond to put on a choice selection of draft beer from all over the world. A must for the beer lover. M. The Beacon Bagel $ Bakeries, Bagels, Coffee & Tea 466 Main St Beacon, NY 12508 Phone number(845) 440-6958 One of Philip’s favorite places to go on a Saturday morning for a bagel. The owner Art is one of the friendliest guys in Beacon and will always greet you with a smile. Order the Jinni if you like bacon and scallion cream cheese. N. Beacon Falls Cafe $$ American (New) 472 Main St Beacon, NY 12508 Phone number (845) 765-0172 Arguably has the best burger around. Also a great spot for brunch on the weekends with outdoor seating on the sunny side of the street. Just two doors down from Angela’s shop. O. Vintage Beacon Women's Clothing, Vintage & Consignment 478 Main St Beacon, NY 12508 Phone number (845) 202-7172 Obviously the best business to ever take roots in Beacon. P. The Roundhouse $$$ American (New), Lounges, Hotels 2 E Main St Beacon, NY 12508 Phone number (845) 765-8369 Great place to hang out on the patio and soak up the view of Beacon Falls and the tubers making their way down Fishkill Creek. A little more upscale than most places in Beacon. A NYC vibe in Beacon, NY. Q. The Hop $$ Breweries, Pubs, Gastropubs 554 Main St Beacon, NY 12508 Phone number (845) 440-8676 Normally a great selection of beers and very innovative and delicious food. Gets a little busy on the weekends but great for lunch on a Friday afternoon and a pint. Always a good idea to put your name in and then check out Beacon Falls while you wait. Check out the beer garden if it is open yet. The clams are great! R. Dogwood $$ Bars, Salad, Sandwiches 47 E Main St Beacon, NY 12508 Phone number (845) 202-7500 A good place for live music and hipster spotting. Things get busy towards the later part of the night. Definitely the last stop for Beacon locals.
