WIMCO Awarded Potash Corp Project WIMCO Corp has been awarded the general construction contract for Potash Corp’s New Employee Center. Construction is underway. The project involves the construction of a 15,000 square foot single story meeting facility located on the banks of the Pamlico River, near Aurora, NC. This facility will replace the original Employee Center destroyed by flooding from Hurricane Irene. In addition to providing space for corporate meetings, dinners, training sessions and conferences, the facility will also be made available to employees, of PCS Phosphate, for weddings, anniversaries, or other receptions, celebrations, and parties. It will house a total of four meeting rooms, supported by a fully outfitted commercial kitchen and a dedicated Serving Room, along with generous restroom facilities and an office for the on-site facility manager. Designed by Dunn & Dalton Architects, of Kinston, NC, in the vernacular style of the Coastal Plain, the new building will be clad in stacked stone veneer and cement board siding, in a combination of lap and shingle styles. The New Employee Center will be elevated above the flood plain on precast concrete piles with covered porches on three sides offering spectacular views across the Pamlico River. Vehicular access will be provided by a new driveway built on an earthen berm. The berm will be constructed from fill material left over from mining operations. The monumental stone stair, adjacent to the drive, will feature a custom illuminated water fountain. This beautiful highlight will welcome visitors as they access the Employee Center from the plentiful parking areas. The largest meeting space, known as The Pamlico River Room, will provide seated dining for up to 270 people, and will include a raised speaker’s platform and a dance floor area. The adjacent Pamlico Sound Room will house a large antique Board Room table salvaged from the original structure, with seating for 20. There will also be informal seating at couches and chairs. Both rooms will feature exposed heavy timber framing, tongue-and-groove wood ceilings, decorative wood soffits and wainscoting, and stacked stone fireplaces. Two additional meeting rooms provide additional flexible meeting spaces, and all areas will be outfitted with complete audio-visual systems. Robert Smith, Senior Project Manager for WIMCO Corp, is project manager. Robert lives in Washington, NC. WIMCO’s field superintendents are Todd Biba of Belvidere, NC and Brett Grant of Grimesland, NC. WIMCO Corp. is a locally owned, general building contractor, and is licensed in seven states.
