Once all of the screws are removed, remove the bottom cover and set it aside. The photo above shows the inside of the JX-305. The main board must be removed in order to replace the LCD. To remove the main board you need to remove the 2 screws on the top of the board and also the 7 screws from the back of the case. You will also need to unplug the cables connected to the main board. Be sure to make note of the orientation of the cables so that you can reassemble it correctly when you finish the installation of the LCD. 3 produced by: glitchscience.com 2014© The Glitch Science Roland JX-305 LCD Replacement Guide Fig. 3 - Main Board Removed Fig. 4 - Original LCD 4 produced by: glitchscience.com 2014© The Glitch Science Roland JX-305 LCD Replacement Guide Fig. 5 - Electrical tape placed to cover metal edge. Step 3: Now you need to remove the original LCD, it is held in place by 4 small phillips head screws at each corner of the LCD as shown in the Figure 4 photo. Once the LCD has been removed you will then need to cover the metal edge by wrapping it with electrical tape. The electrical tape is used in order to insulate the metal frame from the LCD. See the photo above where the black electrical tape has been applied on the metal frame edge on the right side of the metal mounting frame. 5 produced by: glitchscience.com 2014© The Glitch Science Roland JX-305 LCD Replacement Guide Fig. 6 - Replacement LCD installed using 2 screws Step 4: Once the electrical tape is placed around the metal edge to provide insulation, the replacement LCD can be installed. The replacement has mounting dimensions that differ from the original LCD. In turn it does not have the same footprint as the original. Mount the LCD using only 2 of the screws on the right side where the electrical tape is. The other 2 screws are not used since the left side does not align with the mounting holes. The 2 screws are sufficient enough to secure the LCD in place. Be sure to align the LCD properly before completely securing it in place. Avoid over tightening the screws. 6 produced by: glitchscience.com 2014© The Glitch Science Roland JX-305 LCD Replacement Guide Fig. 7 - Plug the LCD in the correct orientation Fig. 8 - LCD plugged in the correct orientation 7 produced by: glitchscience.com 2014© The Glitch Science Roland JX-305 LCD Replacement Guide Fig. 8 - Setting the LCD contrast Step 5: Once the LCD is screwed into place and aligned properly, reinstall the main board and plug all the cables back into it. Make sure to plug all the cables back into the board in the proper orientation, including the LCD cable as shown in the photos on the previous page. Replace the bottom of the case, but before screwing it all back together, test that the LCD is properly working and aligned. If the LCD backlight does not light up it could mean that the side pins are not insulated from the metal edge and you will need to adjust the LCD and or electrical tape to fix the issue. Once the LCD is installed and properly working you can adjust the contrast setting if needed. You can adjust the contrast by pressing the edit button then the system button and turning the value wheel as needed and or adjust the potentiometer on the back of the LCD Screw everything back together and you are finished. 8 produced by: glitchscience.com 2014© The Glitch Science Roland JX-305 LCD Replacement Guide This guide is not to be distributed or redistributed without explicit permission from the owner of the document. contact: glitchscience[at]gmail[dot]com with inquiries 9 produced by: glitchscience.com 2014©
