Privileged Status Privileged Status provides your cardholders access to a wider base of surcharge-free ATM locations. It’s a win for you and your cardholders. P rivileged Status is a program developed by the SHAZAM network to help community financial institutions provide their customers with a broad base of surcharge-free ATM locations. Q: HOW DID THE PROGRAM GET STARTED? PRIVILEGED STATUS HELPS YOU COMPETE Through the Privileged Status program, the SHAZAM network provides your financial institution an effective way to compete by expanding your cardholders’ access to surcharge-free ATM locations. Q: WHAT IS PRIVILEGED STATUS? A: Privileged Status is a program within the SHAZAM network that: ■ Allows customers of Privileged Status financial institutions to use the ATMs of other Privileged Status financial institutions with no surcharge fees. ■ Expands the number of surcharge-free ATM locations available to your customers. A: Privileged Status is a program developed by the SHAZAM network in response to requests from community financial institutions who were concerned about the ability to provide their customers with access to a broad base of surcharge-free ATM locations. Q: AM I REQUIRED TO ENTER ALL OF MY ATM TERMINALS INTO THE PROGRAM? A: NO. Participants may “opt out” any off-premise ATM location. All on-premise ATMs must remain in the program. Q: WHAT IF MY FINANCIAL INSTITUTION DOES NOT OWN ANY ATMS? A: The Privileged Status program is open to any SHAZAM participant. Financial institutions who do not sponsor any ATMs into the alliance will be assessed a surcharge-free access fee of $.25 per transaction. This fee is paid to Privileged Status acquirers by the card issuer. This fee applies to institutions who either do not deploy ATMs or who do not have on-premise ATMs and have opted out all of their offpremise ATMs. Q: WHAT OTHER FEES ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE PRIVILEGED STATUS PROGRAM? Q: HOW DOES MY FINANCIAL INSTITUTION BENEFIT? A: You enjoy greater customer loyalty and A: There is no membership fee to belong to the satisfaction because your customers position you as “up to speed” with market needs and competitive offerings. A: Your cardholders now have access to a wider selection of surchargefree ATM locations where they can save money on ATM transactions by avoiding surcharge fees. Q: CAN I STILL SURCHARGE AT MY ATM? A: YES. You can still surcharge foreign transactions performed by cardholders of non-Privileged Status financial institutions. The only cardholders not surcharged are your own and cardholders of other Privileged Status financial institutions. A: NO. SHAZAM routes the Privileged Status transaction as an intranetwork transaction. The Privileged Status logo is not needed on your card stock.
