May 12th, 2016 West Ridge Reflections WRMS Weekly Newsletter 9201 Scenic Bluff Drive Austin, TX 78733 wrms.eanesisd.net Dear West Ridge Family, Today marked the end of STAAR testing on our campus and throughout the state. Beginning on Friday, all three grade levels will be back on our regular schedule. As I visited with our 6th and 7th graders on Wednesday morning after two days of testing, it was interesting how a lot of students thoroughly enjoy their regular routine and schedule. They had missed their friends, teachers, and “the learning”. As kids move through the halls between bells, I often exclaim that it is “learning time, time!” Several students joked that they missed “learning time, time” the most over the last few days! Our students enjoy their daily experiences at West Ridge, and it took a little change in their routines to confirm this belief. I received some very positive feedback about the “shared experience” of watching television and movies with their children. The piece about engaging in direct and immediate conversation with their children led to many heartfelt and genuine conversations. A few of our fathers definitely wanted me to mention this again as they felt this encouragement had helped them greatly in talking to their 12-14 year old children. The topics presented allowed them to have conversations at higher levels of thought and more in depth because they had a topic that was shared and did not seem fabricated to start a one way parent conversation. Steve Ramsey Principal, West Ridge Middle School You may have noticed that many of our buses are overcrowded in the afternoons. If your child is riding a different bus home with a friend, please ensure that you send them to the front office in the morning with the correct Bus Transportation Change form signed by you. Bus Transportation Change forms (regular and also a special one for the WACC) are included in this edition for easy reference. They can also be found on the Eanes ISD web site. Consider picking up groups of students instead of having them ride buses different from their regular ones.
