Reduce waste & GHG emissions Durable, Upgradable, Replaceable Components, Recycled/Remanufactured, Recyclable 2. Reduce waste & toxicity by choosing greener mattresses Least-toxic materials, e.g. reduce/eliminate chlorinated compounds, heavy metals, halogens Proposed Practices & Specs 1. Mattress Life Extension Stained but >2yrs of firmness –> wrap with new cover Stained but <2yrs of firmness –> wrap with new cover & topper 2. Replacement Mattresses Least toxic materials, e.g. Green Bear materials, # of inches t.b.d. Removable nylon cover so either cover or mattress can later be replaced Dual foam-encased spring so student can flip mattress to be “plush” or “firm” Use cover color to identify purchase cycle and/or retro or new mattress Offer optional topper upgrade to students for purchase t.b.d.
