December - Providence Performing Arts Center
Thank you so much, P PAC PAT R O N S , Check the latest updates, order tickets online anytime, and sign up to be on our email list to receive news and special offers (and to download Showtimes online): www.ppacri.org Lobby Flat Screens Available Although patrons make every effort to be on time for events out of respect for the performers and other theatregoers, sometimes traffic or weather problems intervene and late arrivals occur. Patrons may view the beginning of a show on the flat screens in the PPAC lobby - this will enable latecomers to watch the show until the theatre is re-opened to allow them into the show. Just a reminder that touring companies set the policy for allowing those who arrive past curtain time in to the theatre; PPAC must ask those patrons to wait until the approved time to re-open the doors. If at all possible, please plan ahead to arrive early and relax before the show begins. Thank you! Collections continue through Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific, December 7-12. Donna, an independent, single mother who owns a small hotel on an idyllic Greek island, is about to let go of Sophie, the spirited daughter she’s raised alone. For Sophie’s wedding, Donna has invited her two lifelong best girlfriends—practical and no-nonsense Rosie and wealthy, multi-divorcée Tanya - from her one-time backing band, Donna and the Dynamos. But Sophie has secretly invited three guests of her own. On a quest to find the identity of her father to walk her down the aisle, she brings back three men from Donna’s past to the Mediterranean paradise they visited 20 years earlier. Over 24 chaotic hours, new love will bloom and old romances will be rekindled on this lush island full of possibilities. Sponsored by Tickets are $71 - $44; all ticket prices include a $3 per ticket restoration charge. DECEMBER Photo credit: Bill Murphy Disney's The Lion King A Christmas Celtic Sojourn The producers of IN THE HEIGHTS announced at the end of October that the show would have its final Broadway performance on Sunday, January 9. Even though it won’t be on Broadway anymore, you can see it right here in Providence, beginning on Tuesday, January 11. NBC’s Last Comic Standing Live Tour Imagination Movers PPAC BROADWAY IN THE HEIGHTS tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. AT THE Photo credit: MAMMA MIA! North American Tour 2010 by Joan Marcus. Can’t decide on a show? Give a PPAC/ VMA gift certificate! Set on a tropical island during World War II, the musical tells the sweeping romantic story of two couples – U.S. Navy nurse Nellie Forbush and French plantation owner Emile de Becque and Navy Airman Joe Cable and a young local native girl Liat – and how their happiness is threatened by the realities of war and by their own prejudices. Considered by many to be the finest musical ever written, the score’s songs include such classics as “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair,” “Younger Than Springtime,” “Bali Ha’i,” “There is Nothin’ Like A Dame,” “This Nearly Was Mine” and “A Wonderful Guy.” Sponsored by The New York Times called IN THE HEIGHTS “an exuberant, animated shrine to the importance of family ties and being faithful to where you come from” and TIME Magazine said, “IN THE HEIGHTS represents change on Broadway. It’s contemporary, heartful and full of hope.” Photo credit: Caitlyn DiPompo Save 20% on selected seating and performances for these shows.
