About Roscoe: Our program cover is taken from a poster designed by Hannah Devine and Jacob Friedman, students in Churchill High School’s advanced graphics arts class, taught by Ms. Amy Gilbert. (JazzFest Producer Bruce Krohmer also teaches at Churchill.) Hannah and Jacob are this year’s winners of an annual contest to design the main festival poster and t-shirt image. Our 2016 JazzFest theme is “Jazz in the Community,” so students were encouraged to find out about life in Takoma Park. A key theme of the image is the rising sun in the Takoma Park city logo. The other central theme is Roscoe the Rooster. Roscoe was our city mascot: a totally free ranging resident, disliked by some for his early morning wake-up crowing. He lived for ten years, ruling the city, until his untimely demise by a hit and run driver in 1999. He is immortalized by the bronze statue in front of the Takoma Park clock tower on Laurel Avenue, located near our JazzFest booth (#100), Visit the JazzFest Booth (#100) for programs, cold water, t-shirt sales, and prize drawing entry forms. 21st JazzFest Performers Gazebo Stage 11:00 ilyAIMY is a wonderful acoustic grunge, folk-rock trio with Rob Hinkal leader, vocals and acoustic guitar; Heather Aubray Lloyd, vocals, ukulele, djembe, acoustic guitar; and Kristan Jones, vocals, cello.
