he Lincoln-Way community is a great place to live, work, learn and play. Families continue to
choose Lincoln-Way neighborhoods; their children benefit from the commitment to educational
excellence that is synonymous with Lincoln-Way. Businesses, large and small, migrate to the
Lincoln-Way area to become part of a thriving and vibrant community.
The success of our Lincoln-Way schools is often measured in a number of ways. Lincoln-Way schools are
in the top 11 percent in state (PSAE) test results. Our student athletes enjoy the benefits of a competitive
conference and top-notch facilities. Activities offer a diverse opportunity for student involvement. From
Madrigals and Mathletes, Scholastic Bowl and Science Club, to Marching Band and School Yearbook,
students have a wealth of experiences through
which to live and grow. Alumni, again and again,
identify Lincoln-Way as the place where they first
prepared for their future.
However, as crucial as they are, test scores, athletics
and activities are just part of the picture. Lincoln-Way
strives to help each student develop a strong
character and cultivate attributes that will see him or
her through the highs and lows that life offers.
Lincoln-Way recognizes that children need adults who
care. In the spring of 2000, the Asset Program was
launched in collaboration with the Frankfort and
Mokena Youth Commissions, the five elementary
school districts, park districts, chambers of commerce,

The asset framework is built upon 40
development assets that offer practical direction for
addressing the needs of today’s youth. Based on
extensive research with youth across the country,
this framework identifies the basic building blocks
of life that all young people need to grow into
healthy, caring and responsible adults.
Each month we recognize the “Asset of the
Month.” Our goal is to have the area ministers,
schools, community groups and families all
emphasize the same asset each month to assist in
unifying this campaign for a better community. Each
organization and individual is encouraged to
implement the asset of the month in a variety of
ways. By working with a proven program, we believe
we can and will improve the lives of our children.
The May Asset of the Month promotes caring
neighborhoods. The quote by Aesop, “No act of
kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted,”
captures the spirit of this Asset. There have been
several activities recently at our Lincoln-Way schools
that reflect a commitment to this asset. All four
Lincoln-Way high schools participated in the St.
Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser. Several students
and faculty members, including Lincoln-Way East

approaching. Soon,
parents and
grandparents will cheer,
laugh and shed a few
tears as members of the
Class of 2010 accept
their diplomas. Maybe
some of you will be
among the audience of well-wishers. Perhaps you
will recall your own steps across a Lincoln-Way
stage, or across the field. As yet another group of
promising young people venture out beyond
Lincoln-Way, I can’t help but reflect on the year
we’ve just experienced.
My thoughts turn to a well-known quote from
an equally well known book, A Tale of Two Cities,
by Charles Dickens: “It was the best of times; it was
the worst of times.” Our students scored in the top
11 percent district-wide in state tests. The board
and administrative teams have worked hard over
the years to increase graduation requirements,

identify students needing additional help, and
participate in the movement of our district to the
solid position it now enjoys. Lincoln-Way graduates
are well prepared to compete among the best and
brightest in colleges and universities across the
country. And since college is not a choice every
student will make, Lincoln-Way provides
opportunities to students whose next steps don’t
include college. At Lincoln-Way, each student
matters, and we take pride in all of their unique
accomplishments. These are the best of times.
However, today our schools are facing deeper
challenges than we’ve ever experienced. As I write
you this letter, the state of Illinois owes $6.2 million
dollars to Lincoln-Way High School District 210.
This, along with the downturn in the economy, has
created a financial challenge for the district. Our
Board of Education has always demonstrated its
fiscal responsibility to its citizens. As a result, our
district is one of the lowest spending districts in
terms of per pupil expenditures in the six county
Chicagoland area. There simply is not much to cut.
The things we’ve worked so hard to bring to our
students – extended class periods, writing labs,
small class sizes, and individualized assistance –
w w w. l w 2 1 0 . o r g
now hang in the balance. We’ve added fees and
cut some programs. We’ve reduced faculty and
staff. With heavy hearts we let go of good people,
skilled workers, and great teachers. These are the
worst of times.
And yet, when I see the enthusiasm of our
Lincoln-Way students, the excitement of the
members of the Class of 2010, the commitment
and dedication of our faculty, I’m encouraged.
When I read the notes so many of you took the
time to send, and hear about the joy you find in
reuniting with your classmates, whether they ran
track or performed in Madrigals, I’m optimistic.
When I hear the words of the Lincoln-Way Alma
Mater: “Lincoln-Way, ever true, let us pledge our
hearts to you,” I am confident. I’m confident in
the knowledge that the heart of Lincoln-Way is
strong, and together we will rise above the
challenges of today to insure the success of our
students tomorrow.
I thank you for your loyalty to Lincoln-Way, and
wish you a summer filled with all the things that
bring you joy. If your summer travels bring you
“home” for a visit, please take the time to stop by.
We’d love to welcome you. I

e know that Lincoln-Way alumni feel a
strong connection to their high school.
Whether you are a Knight, Griffin, Phoenix
or Warrior, we understand that your years spent at
Lincoln-Way have special meaning. You tell us that
the friendships formed at Lincoln-Way have stood
the test of time. We understand that today’s
Lincoln-Way graduates are often children and
grandchildren of Lincoln-Way Alumni. Your
message to us is clear – staying connected to
Lincoln-Way is important to you. We have listened,
and are very excited to share with you our plans to
make that connection not only stronger… but
much easier!
This fall, a web-based alumni community will
be available for all Lincoln-Way alumni. This
community will provide a dynamic Internet
environment through which all of our alumni may
keep their information up-to-date, search out
friends, interact with one another, and plan
informal gatherings or more formal class reunions.
And this is just a glimpse of what alumni will enjoy
using this very robust platform.

Reunion Review
MADRIGALS 40TH ANNIVERSARY REUNION
incoln-Way Madrigal Alumni from the
classes of 1970 through 1992 gathered on
December 17, 2009, to celebrate 40 years
of Madrigals under the program’s originator, Mr.
Charles Stark. Being a Madrigal Singer at LincolnWay was one of the best experiences of my life,
and judging by the turnout, Madrigals made a
huge impact on the lives of many alumni.
We began our evening at Lincoln-Way Central for
a special performance by this year’s Madrigal Singers
and Players. I think I can speak for all of us when I
say that the kids put on a great show. They are
carrying on the tradition beautifully. Things have
changed over the last 20 years since I was a part of
the group. Not only was there a set with props and
authentic costumes, today the actors play the Lord
and Lady. Instead of having two Jesters, one is now
replaced with a traditional serving wench, all of
whom were spectacular in their parts. We really
must give credit to the singers, who may have found
it a bit daunting to get up and perform for 40 years
of alumni who sang the same songs back in their
heyday. Bravo! We were impressed!
Next it was off for
the party which turned
into a sing-a-long! I’m
impressed some of us
waited that long to belt
out a song. Mr. Stark
brought the music for
Carol of the Bells and
Little Drummer Boy and
directed 40 years worth
of students as if we
were 17 again. It was a
wonderful experience
that we all wished could
have lasted forever.

UPCOMING REUNIONS – MARK YOUR CALENDARS
A Cappella Choir Reunion “The Chuck Stark Years”
WHY: Because ACC was a significant part of our
high school years and Chuck played the lead. We
made good friends beyond our own class year. We
thrived on the music and the challenges. We carried
the music and Chuck’s contribution into our lives long
beyond high school. And most of all, it was FUN!
MUSIC: Chuck is finalizing the music. We intend to
have it posted on a web page so everyone can get it.
PICTURES (ACC Years): If you have any ACC photos
you’d like to share, make them digital. We’re
considering burning a DVD of them.
LOCATION: Central Campus. If you haven’t been back
in a few years, there’s been significant investment by
the District to the Performing Arts Center and the
Music Department. Chuck Stark will show off the
facilities for us.
YOUR BIOGRAPHY: If you would like to prepare a
short bio of what you’ve been up to since L-W, we’ll
collect them on Saturday and present them to Chuck
at the concert.
SCHEDULE:
Friday, July 2, 2010, 6:30pm – Rehearsal
A run through the music with Chuck. Tour of
