The Thorny Truth - Shire of Rosenfeld
The
Thorny Truth
Shire of Rosenfeld
October 2014
AS XLVIX
From the Seneschal
Greetings unto Rosenfeld!
Once Upon a Time in Agincourt has come and gone. All who attended had a grand
time. New champions were chosen and a delicious feast was consumed. The rain held off till
late in the evening and caused a great time in the hall with everyone gathered there.
The up coming Comic-Con will have a Rosenfeld presence as well as others from Ansteorra
and possibly Glan Ahban in Louisiana. A schedule will be posted soon. Fighters and artisans
are needed. There will be a pavilion set up and items to make it look spectacular may be
needed. Lord Aidan will post as the needs become known. The Yule Revel is in the planning
stages so watch for up dates.
I am available by email and phone.

From the Minster of Arts and Sciences
Agincourt has come and gone and was a relaxing joy filled weekend for those fortunate enough to have
joined us. Rosenfeld’s new Arts and Science Champion is Emma Farewyll and Audr Rikardsdottir
regaled us with a most excellent song and won Bardic Champion. She had accepted Baron Tostig’s
challenge to reclaim the Bardic Cloak in a bardic competition with the last champion. The feast was
the best I have experienced and I hope to reproduce most of those dishes (perhaps Yule?). Speaking of
Yule – the theme is We Shall Play Games so everyone bring your favorite period games and mark your
calendars for December 13th. We shall have period dish competition, best table contest, best garb, and a
best pie competition.
We are all looking forward to the demo at Comic Con on October 25th and 26th with plans to have a
pavilion and period lifestyle exhibit in the court yard as well as a 2 manned display table indoors both
days. The venue is larger to accommodate the fans this year with ComicCon celebrities slated- it will
be a real party-hope to see everyone there.
Those at this month’s Populace meeting were so fortunate to have Heinrich share information on
bookbinding and I know many of us will try our hand at the art so below I have listed his resources
below:

Lastly faire Rosenfeld I am taking donations of largess in response to a call for our Crown that they
may have lovely items to hand out. I ask that everyone bring an item to Populace in October and I
will send them all in from our awesome Shire. Attach a little card with your name and Rosenfeld so
that they know that We Represent!
Blessings To One and All
Fair Thee Well,

Fighter practice has been sparsely attended through the summer, but the fall is here with cooler weather. I am
looking forward to seeing more people and wanting to join us for practice or just doing stuff on Sunday
Afternoons.

A Proper New Booke of Cookery, A. Veale: To make Applemoyse. Take a dosen apples and ether rooste or boyle
them and drawe them thorowe a streyner, and the yolkes of three or foure egges withal, and, as ye strayne them,
temper them wyth three or foure sponefull of damaske water yf ye wyll, than take and season it wyth suger and

synamon and gynger upon them and so serve them forthe.
This is a variant of Applemuse that is more like spiced applesauce. It's very easy to make, and downright
addictive - especially when topped with Snowe (whipped cream).
4 cups peeled diced apples
Place apples in sauce pan and bring to boil. Cook about 5 minutes to soften the fruit. Drain and mash. (You
now have applesauce.)
Add remaining ingredients to the saucepan.
3/4 cup sugar
3 egg yolks
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ginger
Heat until it starts to boil and becomes very thick. Serve warm or cold.
