Welcome to our new members, Tia, Denise and Pat.
Hope everyone enjoyed the July meeting and looking forward to what is
coming up. Please let me or any board member know if you have any
ideas for the meeting. We appreciate everyone's input.
We have a lot going on the next few months. Hopefully you are working
on finishing projects for the quilt show. The Show will be here before you
know it. It would be great to see one quilt from everyone in the guild.
Check the newsletter for deadline dates for show submissions and other
show information.
In October we have the retreat at Loucon. It's a great place and time to
get to know other members better and to get some projects completed.
There should be a sign up sheet in this newsletter, please fill out and
return by deadline.
In this newsletter you will also find a survey to fill out. This survey greatly
assists the VPs in planning the upcoming events. Fill it out and bring to
August meeting. We will draw one from completed surveys for a great
prize! This survey is a great way to let us know what you are interested
in. Remember you are a part of the group and your interests are
important.
See you on 25th for a great time. Bring a friend with you.

THIS AND THAT - IMPORTANT STUFF TO KNOW
♥ Brenda Edwards is collecting empty spools again this year for the quilt show. Please save your spools as
you empty them. You can periodically bring them to her during the meeting or save until the August
meeting.
♥ Our retreat is scheduled for Oct 21-24 at Loucon. This site meets most of the preferences as indicated
from the survey results. You can put a down payment of $25.00 to reserve your spot. Deposits must be
receive by the August meeting with the balance due by the September meeting.
♥ You can go online to view the Stitchers Newsletter at :
www.hardinext.org/quilting-newsletter.asp
♥ Your board members are working hard to make the most of your meetings and schedule great workshops
throughout the coming years. If you have any ideas for workshops or would be willing to teach a workshop
please contact Betty Percifield, or if you have ideas for upcoming meetings contact Diana Zimmerman.
Diana is looking for make-it/take-it and demo ideas or anything else you would like to see or are willing to
share with everyone during the meetings.
♥ We are asking for donations of aprons for the quilt show. We would like them to be newly made and we
will use them every year during the quilt show in the Food Court area. This year we will do a conga line once
each day and have attendees vote on their favorite.
♥ Put your SAVE THE DATE insert on your refrigerator or bulletin board to remind you of guild activities like
workshops and UFO days. We don’t want anyone to miss out on these.
♥ Pick up your quilt show “Welcome Banner” challenge information at the August meeting. Time is short.
MAKE AN APRON DAY
11 Sept , 9am—4pm
Come in and make an apron to donate to
the quilt show food court and make
another for yourself. Some quick and
easy apron patterns will be available for
your use.
Bring about 2—2-1/2 yards of fabric
and 1/2 yard interfacing which is
optional per apron.
Bring your machine and basic sewing
supplies and bring your own lunch.
Sometime during the quilt show we will
do a conga line and have attendees vote
on their favorite apron.
LANDSCAPE SHOWCASE
&
MAKE-IT / TAKE-IT
If you have made any landscape quilts bring them
in for our landscape showcase of quilts.
We will have some discussion on landscape quilts
and using fusible web, which is what we will use
while making a small version to take home.
The guild will provide the supplies, although you
may want to bring a fabric scissor to use.
If you have some of your own landscape fabrics
you would like to use bring those in with fusible
web already applied.

ENTRIES IN AT

MEETING!!!

FEATURED STITCHER:
Rebecca Schroeder
Like so many of you, I too, learned to sew from my mother and my
grandmother. I used to make doll clothes by hand when I was quite
young then later on was given my own little sewing machine as a
gift from my parents.
It’s a Singer SEW HANDY that I still have.
(I’m wondering if any of you ever had one of these??) Going on
from here I learned to sew clothes for myself and others and then
majored in Home Economics Education while in college. During my
college years I sewed a lot to include making a formal gown for a
friend to wear in the Miss Kentucky Pageant MANY years ago but I’m
not telling you when! (Incidentally she was first runner-up.)
I did teach Home Economics for a few years but eventually earned my
Master’s Degree in elementary/middle school education. With Joe,
my husband being in the army and us moving around, elementary and
middle school jobs were easier to come by then Home Ec teaching
positions. I loved my years of teaching and did retire in 2000
from Hardin County Schools. Shortly after that Brenda Arnett and I
took a beginning quilter’s class so that’s the beginning of how
this “sickness” began!
All of you are such an inspiration to me and I thank you for that!
I love to see all of the wonderful things you piece and quilt. My
quilts are all quite simple designs generally with larger pieces of
fabric and I rarely do any of my own quilting. I love picking out
the fabric and piecing it….but then I love even more having Brenda
Arnett do my quilting for me. The finished product gets to me so
much faster that way and as a result I enjoy the project on hand so
much more. Almost all of the quilts I’ve made have been used as
gifts so I will not have many to show you.
One thing I would like to tell all quilters, especially ones in the
beginning or intermediate levels of quilting, is be sure to shadow
a seasoned quilter. Brenda Arnett and I have worked together
designing and/or piecing a couple of quilts, and oh my, it is
amazing what I have learned from her. She has taught me many short
cuts as well as easier ways to do things. I thank Brenda for that!
