The foundation, started by Susan Rose after she lost her daughter Lauren to a car
accident in 1999, aims to ease the worries of working, hospitalized or struggling
women. Members provide them with baskets and gift bags packed with toiletries and
self-­care products year around — but especially during their big Mothers Day

“Our goal for the Mothers Matter 5K run and walk is to spread awareness of the
Lauren Rose Albert Foundation and other Mothers Matter programs to help women
facing difficult challenges,” said Rose, who runs the program from its headquarters on
McClure Drive in Washington Township (http://www.nj.com/wttimes).
This year at the walk, Freeholder Adam Taliaferro will be the Grand Marshal, along
with Dr. Alex Vaccaro of the Rothman Institute — a partner of the Lauren Rose Albert
Foundation — who helped him overcome his spinal injury 13 years ago.
“I met him when he came by with Sen. Fred Madden ... what a wonderful man, he’s so
special,” said Rose.
She’s expecting between 250 and 300 participants in the walk, which kicks off at 9 a.m
on Oct. 20. They’re offering a special “family fee” of just $50 for a family of up to five,
for participants who register online prior to the race day. Individual registration is
$20 plus a $2.50 sign-­up fee online.
The course is USATF certified, Rose said, with prizes being given out to top male and
female finishers in their age groups.
“It’s a fabulous run from what I’m told,” Rose said. “It’s a great course for runners, it’s
a wonderful family outing for workers and families, and it all goes toward helping
moms. It doesn’t get better than that.”
