We Make the Difference!
July 5—August 15, 2015
Maplebrook School’s Summer Program embraces the idea that not all students learn
the same and that the summer months can cause a
student to lose critical academic skills. Research
shows that the few months of loss in reading and
math skills over the summer months compounds
over the years. Experience tells us that after students attend Maplebrook’s Summer Program and
benefit from the structure and support, they return to
school in the fall ready to “hit the ground running”.
Academic Program: Ages 10-15
Highly trained faculty use programs such as Wilson
Reading, Renaissance Math, IXL Math and Accelerated Reader to create specialized
classes that will help prevent the regression of key academic skills. These classes will not only interest the student, but will help them maintain those skills acquired
during the school year. Through a multi-sensory approach and the assistance of technology, students will
gain the confidence needed to succeed.
Afternoons and evenings are dedicated to the fun side of
summer. Maplebrook’s Summer Program is an ideal way
for students to tap into their love of music, computers,
sports, cooking and
arts. The latest
technology is used
to capture summer
memories through
digital photography or writing a summer blog with
their friends. Finally, students engage in those
timeless summer activities such as hiking, making
s’mores in front of a campfire and cheering on the
local minor league baseball team to victory.
Postsecondary Program: Ages 16-21
For students who are of working age and
Exploring career options, this program is for you. It
is the perfect solution for the student who is not sure
what career path to take. Mornings are dedicated to
academics such as reading, personal finance and
occupational studies.
Afternoons afford the students the opportunity to
engage in career exploration through the experiential learning model. Vocational placements such as
in animal care, food service, retailing and child care
have given the students invaluable work experience
and allowed them discover new interests.
Special Trips & Travel for All Students
Who said learning can’t be fun? The travel component of this summer’s program
will be taking students to explore such things as
the history of Philadelphia by vising the famous
Liberty Bell, Constitution Hall and the Franklin Institute. They will go on the infamous Duck Tour
and catch a Red Sox
game in Boston.
Meet the new species
of animals at the Mystic Seaport Aquarium
after camping near the beach and enjoy all that Washington, DC has to offer. Rounding out the fun is a trip
to the ever-popular Six Flags.
Maplebrook’s Summer Program has the perfect balance of academic remediation, independent living
skills, social opportunities and fun.
