Canned Motor Pumps NON-SEAL Canned Motor Pumps Canned Motor Pumps are a combination of centrifugal pumps with 3-phase-induction motors. The impeller and rotor are installed on a single shaft. The stator liner, or so called “can”, separates the stator chamber from the wet rotor chamber. The design is without a shaft seal and therefore free of leakage. The pumping liquid cools and lubricates the slide bearings and the rotor chamber. The “heavy duty“ design pumps are designed for system pressures up to 40 bar. The secondary pressure containment, which is achieved by the stator shell, provides the highest safety level for personnel and the environment. NON-SEAL More advantages of the canned motor pump: • Reduced installation costs; alignment of motor and pump is not necessary • Very low noise emission and low vibration • Reduced space requirement due to compact block design • Inverter operation (30 – 60 Hz) • Low number of wearing parts; low maintenance requirements • High reliability • Low life cycle cost Nikkiso-KSB pumps are used for aggressive, inflammable, explosive, toxic or valuable liquids and liquefied gases. ATEX and API 685 are available for chemical and petrochemical applications. 1 7 4 2 3 6 5 1 E-Monitor – Monitoring of the rotor position for condition based maintenance 2 Secondary Containment – Integrated double safety with option for monitoring 3 Slide bearings in combination with automatic axial thrust balancing system – Long bearing life due to minimised loads 4 Flanges – According to DIN EN, ASME or JIS 5 Insulation classes C 220 and C 450 – Liquid temperatures up to 180 °C / 350 °C without cooling 6 Containment Can – Made from HC-N (2.4819) material for low eddy current losses and high corrosion resistance 7 Liquid temperature – Monitoring with internal PT 100 or external monitoring upon customers request Canned Motor Pumps Bearing Modular System Nikkiso-KSB bearings are slide bearings which are lubricated by the process liquid. The modular system of Graphite and Graphite-SIC bearings has been designed for the enhanced requirements of chemical and petrochemical industries. NON-SEAL Sleeve (Tungsten Carbide Coated) Bearing (Carbon Graphite) Silicon Carbide Lining Graphite bearings are combined with hard chromium coated shaft sleeves and thrust washers. These bearings are the perfect solution for liquids without solids. Shaft Graphite-SIC bearings are used for special demands, like liquid gases which shall be pumped at a temperature very close to the evaporation point. The surface of these bearings is lined with a silicon carbide of approximate 4 mm thickness which is created by conversion of graphite using pure silicon. These bearings are less susceptible to mechanical shock and chipping compared with SIC. Embedded graphite particles provide emergency lubrication. These bearings fulfil the high requirements of API 685. Thrust Washer (Tungsten Carbide Coated) Composition SiC (white) / Graphite (black) SiC-Layer Graphite 4-8 mm E-Monitor The E-Monitor, specially developed for use on canned motors, monitors the axial and radial slide bearing status and indicates continuously any changes in the bearings’ condition. Planned maintenance often involves untimely exchange of parts which have not yet reached their maximum service lifetime. It also involves unnecessary cost for dismantling the equipment. Reactive maintenance always involves the equipment being repaired when a breakdown has already occurred. In this case however, normal wear can lead to costly consequential damage of the equipment and even force a plant shutdown. The EMonitor by Nikkiso-KSB is a supportive tool for service personnel to perform condition-based maintenance. Stator Bearing Shaft Rotor Probe Bearing The monitoring unit receives data from sensors embedded in the stator. These monitor the rotor position on the basis of the rotors magnetic field. As soon as the rotor moves away from its desired position the measuring probes will detect the change. After digital processing of the status change signals, the unit shows the operator the condition of the pump bearings on a “traffic light” display. The green LED indicates that everything is okay with the bearings. An amber LED warns the operator that the pump should be checked during the next regular plant shutdown. If the red LED lights up, the operator knows that the pump should be taken out of service and checked as soon as possible. The unit can be integrated in a process control system via a “4 to 20 mA“ signal. Added functions, such as a direction-of-rotation indicator, show whether the pump is running in the wrong direction which eliminates the need for phase rotation measurements during commissioning. As the E-Monitor is supplied with power from the motor terminal box there is no need for external cabling, thereby keeps costs to a minimum. The unit is supplied with the pump and is ready for operation as soon as the pump has been commissioned.
