Williamson Community
Leadership Program
Now in its 25th year, the Williamson Community Leadership
Program (WCLP) offers one of Australia’s most sought-after
leadership development experiences.
This rigorous ten-month experiential
program uses the Harthills Leadership
Development Profile, seven stages
of consciousness and Harvard
methodologies in adaptive leadership and
group relations to examine your current
leadership style, strengths and areas
for development. At the same time, this
unique program exposes you to a range
of diverse experiences, guest speakers
and contributors, including your peers in
the room, to explore the social, economic
and environmental issues, and their
leadership challenges, which influence
and impact the community and our
operating environment.
Bring these two streams together in a
collaborative, challenge-based learning
project and workplace activities to stretch
and test your leadership in action.
Who it is for
Established and high-potential leaders in established careers from all spheres of business,
non-profit and government who:
• Are seeking to broaden their horizons through a unique personal and professional development
approach
• Are identified as high potential in roles requiring more than traditional management
competencies to achieve organisational objectives
• Are open to possibilities; and have a commitment to personal and professional development, to
learning from others and new experiences, and to applying their learnings in their personal and
professional lives
• Leaders in general management or executive positions; Individuals who are at the forefront of
innovation; Cross-functional integration leaders

What you will learn
Inclusions
This rigorous ten-month experiential program includes
an opening and closing residential retreat, a series of
monthly workshops and seminars, evening sessions,
field trips to regional Victoria and Canberra, and a
formal program graduation. Drawing on the experience
of our expert facilitator, a range of dynamic guest
speakers and a diverse group of peers in the room, you
will explore:
• 10 month facilitated program including two full
days per month and four evenings, on-site visits, guest
speakers and professional development sessions
• Leadership: Using the Harthills Leadership
Development Profile and seven stages of consciousness
and Harvard methodologies in adaptive leadership and
group relations, examine your current leadership style,
strengths and areas for development
• Vision, Influence and Ethics: Using the LV
leadership framework, reflect on your experiences,
values and assumptions to understand the choices you
make and what is the “right thing to do”, the influences
on attitudes and behaviours; and frameworks for
common purpose and strategic thinking
• Community leadership: Explore the leadership
challenges of social, economic and environmental issues
facing the community; how are these challenges being
addressed? Where are the gaps? What can be learnt
about leadership from others’ experiences, successes
and challenges? How can these leadership learnings be
applied in your role, organisation and sector?
• Accommodation at opening and closing residential

Facilitator
Tony Matthews (WCLP ’10), Manager Leadership
Development, brings a wealth of facilitation
experience to Williamson, together with a diverse
range of specialist guest speakers and contributors.

collaborative project to identify and address an
entrenched community issue and practice applying your
professional skills while exercising leadership without

Our Unique Approach
•A framework which draws on the best
leadership development research and practice
from around the world, including Rooke
and Torbert’s Seven Transformations
of Leadership, and elements of adaptive
leadership (Heifetz and Linsky), situational
leadership (Blanchard et al) and emotional
leadership (Goleman et al)

difference between adaptive and technical
leadership, and how to apply adaptive
leadership to change management

Diving deeply into leadership – WCLP ‘14
In 2014, participants in the Williamson Community Leadership Program enjoyed an
intensive, experiential program that took them on a ‘deep dive’ into leadership in action. The impact for participants has been wide-ranging and long-lasting.

personal and professional networks
“I can already see this having positive impacts on my capacity to do great work,” says Maria
Cameron, Senior Policy Advisor with the Department of Health and a WCLP ’14 graduate.
“I’ve taken ideas from WCLP and shaped them into suggestions for new ways we can do
things at work. The head of my organisation has responded very positively to one particular
suggestion I made based on my WCLP experience, and I look forward to seeing it take shape
in coming months. I also took on an entrenched workplace issue and tackled it head-on,
which contributed to a positive outcome on this issue for my organisation. I don’t think I
would have pursued it without the support at a critical point from a WCLP colleague.”
