PRESIDENT’S CORNER

The last meeting was a good one, but we only had
about 26 people present. I hope the weather and
the location was partly the reason. I know that
Daytona was one of the reasons the turnout was
lower. I’m hoping the next meeting will be better.
We are working on the Rally and I hope all of you
will try to make it this year and be willing to
contribute with some volunteering. We can use all
the help we can get.
The picnic will be held on June 14th at Andy
Valentine’s place this year. He resides on Murray
Lane in Brentwood, so it isn’t far from where we
have held it in the past. We appreciate John
Menefee’s brother Albert, for letting us use his farm
for the past few years. We also appreciate John,
Rick and all his helpers for the cooking of the meat.
I think Rick Mathis is going to continue the cooking
tradition this year.
We are planning to have some programs for the
meetings this year. Please mark your calendars for
the 1st Tuesday of the month and maybe you won’t
make any plans that will interfere with the meetings.
BMWMCON Club Meeting
Tuesday APRIL 1, 2008
The April meeting of the BMW Motorcycle Club of
Nashville will be held at the Sportsman’s Lodge in Cool
Springs, starting at 6:30pm. The restaurant is located
just off I-65 East. From Nashville, take the Moore’s Lane
exit and turn left over the Interstate. Turn left at the next
street and then almost immediately left again. It is about
half way around the circle on the left. From Franklin,
take the Moore’s Lane exit and go right on Moores Lane
st
to the 1 street on the left and then the next left and half
way around the circle.

The Rally is getting into full swing. We need all
the help we can get with it, so if you are planning
to attend, please get in touch with Ron Brant, so
he can direct you to the person you need to sign
up with. Danny Wiley is in charge of
Registration and I know he needs help. He will
have a sheet for you to sign at the next meeting.
Thanks in advance.

For the last 15 years, riders from all across America
have counted the days until the middle of June rolls
around. Why? It’s not because that’s when the kids are
out of school. It’s not even when the IRS sends out taxrefund checks. No, the middle of June brings one of the
best motorcycle events of the entire year—the Honda
Hoot®. And this year the Hoot is bigger and better than
ever, with great new events and rides and more fantastic
prizes, because this is the Hoot’s 15th anniversary.
If this is your first Hoot, this brochure will give you
an idea of what you can look forward to. Even if this is
your 15th Hoot, you’ll still be delighted by the fun
additions that have joined your favorite rides and
happenings, plus all the great roads and camaraderie
that are a part of every Honda Hoot. You don’t have to
take our word for it either; the Southeast Tourism
Society recently selected the annual Honda Hoot rally as
a “Top 20 Event” in this part of the country—high praise
indeed!
While the official name is the Honda Hoot
presented by Progressive Insurance, everyone’s
welcome, no matter what kind of bike you ride, and
whether it’s new or old. By the end of your week here,
you’ll have seen bikes you never knew existed.
There are plenty of planned events at the Hoot:
group rides, tours, and things like that. And there’s
plenty of free time too, so you can just explore, shop or
kick some tires and check out the bikes. And everyone
who has ever been to the Hoot, talks about the food—
Southern cookin’ at its very best. Show up with every
minute planned, or show up with no plan at all-at the
Hoot, it’s all good, and a great time will be had. Savvy
Hoot riders know it pays to register early and sign up as
a full Hoot registrant: Most events and rides are open
only to those who are fully registered. This includes the
closing ceremonies at the end of the event, which will
feature the 15th Anniversary Grand Prize: a trip for two
to the 2009 MotoGP of Japan, held at the Twin Ring
Motegi racetrack, also home to Honda’s incredible
Motegi Collection Hall Museum, where you’ll see the
most amazing collection of production and racing
machines in the world.
Fifteen years ago we had no idea the Honda Hoot
would draw so many riders from so many parts of the
country. Isn’t it about time you experienced what all the
Hootin’ and Hollering is about?

Elite Sportbike's focus is to provide a safe, smooth, and
pleasant experience for novice track riders that will help
you become more comfortable with your motorcycle,
both on and off the racetrack. Motorcyclists of all skill
levels are welcome.
Our experience, your safety.
We at Elite Sportbike want to encourage safe motorcycle
operation. To that end, we hope that everyone takes
advantage of our knowledge and experience at an
Elite Sportbike Track Event. We teach, encourage, and
monitor each student's progress to better motorcycling
skills.
Our team is 100% concerned for your safety.
One of the ways we focus on safety is to have a low
student to instructor ratio, which will be 4 to 1. With
individualized attention, we can focus on what is
important to you and keep you safe at the same time.
In addition to the low student to instructor ratio, we keep
all of our groups small. This increases space between
riders, which leads to a safer and more enjoyable riding
experience.
We also provide complimentary earplugs to riders that
need them, because part of the key to safety is
concentration. Being able to focus helps your
concentration, so reducing distractions like noise from
the bike and the wind helps you to be more focused on
your riding.
We expect safe and courteous riding. We mean it.
PERIOD. We are NOT a race school and NOT a place
for people to show off. If you ride with disregard for the
safety of others (and/or their equipment and
possessions) you will be dismissed from the event.
Just remember that there are no cars, no cops, no
tickets, no carbs, no calories, and a whole lot of fun
waiting for you on the track.

From the reporters in Europe
The long time boss of BMW's motorcycle division, Dr. Herbert
Diess, has stepped down in favor of Hendrick Von Kuenheim.
(He is the son of Eberhard Von Kuenheim, who was in charge
of the entire BMW brand from 1970 until 1993.) Unlike his
predecessor who has an engineering background, the new
man comes from marketing and has been appointed to further
change the brand image in line with all the new recent releases
of new sportier models.
We have mentioned before that there is the distinct possibility
of BMW producing a new tourer in the near future, possibly
with a brand-new six-cylinder motor powering it.
Well, sources now suggest that it has actually reached the
design stage and aerodynamic tests are taking place on the
fixed luggage system. It appears to have aero-foils on it for
stability, a horizontal one on the top box and vertical ones on
the panniers. No doubt these are for stability, but should give
the new LT a very futuristic look!
Ed Davis, (don’t know), Jack Jones,
Ron Chandler, and Bob Maier
The K46 BMW prototype World Superbike project has
appeared here quite often. If the 190/190 (its alternative name
because the bike is expected to make 190 hp and weigh 190
kg) achieves its target ratio, the motorcycle will come off the
production line well ahead of any current Japanese WSB bike,
a very exciting proposition indeed. Now more spy shots have
been seen of the bike wearing its own fairing as opposed to the
Yamaha R6 one it was last seen sporting. These pictures show
that the bike is even smaller than first thought, both in the road
and race versions.
While still little in the way of technical details is emerging,
BMW is definitely not entering to make up the numbers. This
will be a serious motorcycle. With Aprilia and KTM likely to
enter the fray at the same time with their new race bikes, it will
certainly need to be!
Jordan Brant, Kay Brant, front, Bettie Jones, Ed
Davis and Mark King.
BMW nearly entered the WSB series before, back in the early
'90s with a water-cooled Flat Twin called the R1 (this was
before Yamaha used it). It was quick and well up to the job, but
BMW bosses believed that you needed a Four to compete and
shelved the project. Ducati, of course, proved that a Twin could
win!
