An ANZAC story
Evelyn Gertrude Brooke is a well-known New Zealander who served with distinction
in World War One. Her biography is entered in the Encyclopaedia of New Zealand
and her life story is told in NZ History online. Te Papa museum featured her in a
major exhibition a few years ago, and in 2011 the NZ Army wrote an article on her as
“New Zealand’s only recipient of the Royal Red Cross and Bar”, meaning she won it
twice. Evelyn was a war hero and her story is one that continues to inspire many.
“Eva” started her military nursing career in Samoa in 1914 when she was part of a contingent of six nurses sent to the former German colony.
Arriving with the NZ Expeditionary Force, she rapidly demonstrated her abilities and became Matron early in 1915. Returning to New Zealand
soon after, she was appointed Matron of the New Zealand Hospital Ship Maheno, which sailed for Gallipoli in July 1915, arriving off ANZAC
Cove in August. For the next four months the Maheno made five trips to Anzac Cove, treating the wounded and sick and transporting them to
hospitals in Lemnos and Alexandria. This was difficult and dangerous work as the ship was within range of enemy gunfire. In terrible heat and
“while bullets raked the decks”, the nurses worked with the “poor, torn, mangled fellows’ amid the horrible sickly odour” of death, disease and
decay.
For her work on the Maheno, Eva was awarded the Royal Red Cross (1st Class) “in
recognition of her nursing service” and was later presented the medal by King George at
Buckingham Palace. Following Gallipoli, she returned to New Zealand and worked in military
hospitals at Trentham and then Brighton, England via another hospital ship the Marama.
At the start of 1918 Eva was then posted as Matron to the New Zealand military hospital in
France. This involved more months of harrowing work as the brutal fighting on the Western
front reached its climax before the armistice in November. During this time she was mentioned
in dispatches by General Douglas Haig for “special devotion and competency”, and then
“In recognition of her valuable services with the armies in France and Flanders.” She was
awarded her second Royal Red Cross medal, the only New Zealander to achieve this honour.
Ephraim Claude Brooke was the younger brother of Eva, and he also served in World War
One. His military career is not one that is as celebrated as his sister’s however, despite him
sharing her bravery and courage. This is not because he didn’t serve with similar distinction in
the years of conflict, but rather that he didn’t settle well in the time of peace that followed.
Ephraim landed on Gallipoli in April 1915. He was soon wounded, shot in both legs in a fierce
battle on the 19th May. He spent two months recovering in Alexandria, before being returned
to Anzac Cove on the 8th July. He was wounded again a month later on the 8th August, part of the famous attack on Chunuk Bair. Having led
this attack, his Wellington Infantry Regiment also led the casualty figures, seen in the New Zealand Herald’s account of the “Operations in the
Dardenalles on the 7th and 8th of August”. This time his records show he received a gunshot wound to the head. Evacuated again he was
taken to hospital in Lemnos, and, somewhat incredibly, was returned to his unit a month later where he re-commenced active service.
When he was evacuated from Gallipoli for the third time, his injuries were even more serious and he was taken to a hospital in England
for three months. He seemed to get better however, and the Evening Post noted in its 1st February edition of 1916 that “Sergeant Claude
Brooke, formerly of Wellington, writes stating that he had been in hospital in Taunton and was about to leave for active service in Egypt. This is
Sergeant Brooke’s third go after having recovered from wounds.”

Sadly, his “third go” was only to last a month. His service records again show that after rejoining his unit that he was soon back in hospital again, suffering from the further effects of
his wounds. As his recovery was then deemed to be of a long-term nature and he faced a
“tedious convalescence,” he was returned to New Zealand along with 321 other men on the
6th March 1916, sailing again on the faithful Maheno.
On his return to NZ he was given a staff job, but soon after faced a disciplinary hearing for
being absent without leave from base. On a trip to Wellington he had met up with some old
friends and the “alcoholic binge” they embarked upon left him sick for a number of days. When
he returned to base a few days late, he faced a disciplinary hearing before being discharged
as “medically unfit for service” in November 1917. Believed by now to be an alcoholic and
deeply unsettled, he left his family soon after, saying they would be better off without him. He
went to Australia and tried unsuccessfully to join the AIF before moving around various parts
of Australia looking for work. Eventually he was admitted to the Goodna Mental Hospital in
Brisbane, a facility for veterans affected by shell-shock and alcoholism. He died there in 1943,
and they buried him in an unmarked grave.
My Mother never knew her Grandfather; the family were told that Ephraim had died a heroic
death during the war. Back home and very much alive however, her Aunty Eva developed a
pretty formidable reputation. She is remembered as being a fairly “serious-minded woman” who always dressed in black. Mum is intensely
proud of them both of course, and we all feel sad that after the war Ephraim never knew the respect he now has from his family.
Many of us have stories like this, and on Anzac day we remember that they involved real people, serving on our behalf. The fears and worries
of our times may seem unimportant in light of what people like Eva and Ephraim faced, yet we should be grateful that it is so. I believe trivial
troubles are all they would have wished for us.
On 9 August 1915, full of the wounded and dying from the battle of Chunuk Bair, the Maheno sailed from Anzac Cove. On board were a
courageous Matron and her brother, a wounded soldier. I hope that in the midst of the chaos and suffering taking place around them, Eva and
Ephraim were able to share a small moment of peace together.

Anzac Day Services
Kristin has a proud history of participation in local Anzac Day services. Every year our students gather to face the brisk autumn chill and
pay tribute to those Kiwis who have served in New Zealand’s armed forces. This national day of remembrance has seen growing support
across the country and this year our students will be taking part in four local Anzac Day services.
The Principals will be in attendance at the Browns Bay, Coatesville and Albany services. Reverend Ramsay will be at the Takapuna parade.
We will be laying a wreath at each service and encourage students to wear their winter uniform and make themselves known to the Kristin
staff members who will facilitate their participation in the service.

What’s been happening?
A day trip to the past
A long established tradition for Junior School children at Kristin is to visit the Howick
Historical Village. This is a ‘living museum’ where the children are able to take part in a wide
range of activities, authentic to the mid 19th century.
For Year 2 the trip was the culmination of an inquiry into how their lives and families have
changed and what traditions they have. From the excited shrieks on arrival at school as
everyone admired and giggled at the costumes, to the silent handwriting in the school
lesson, the day was a huge success. At Wash Day, the children’s smiles while they
scrubbed, twisted and wrung the clothes in the tin tubs, were priceless.
This year the school lesson was held in the old church after Cyclone Lusi brought down the
school roof. It was an added challenge to balance the slates on the back of the pews while
trying to write but the children managed admirably.
As always the most popular activity was the opportunity to play with the toys, and it proved
most challenging to get the boys off the wooden hobby horses for the return trip to school.
We love the fact our children get such pleasure and wonderful learning from this annual
event.

Year 5 visit Tiritiri Matangi
On Wednesday Year 5 went to Tiritiri Matangi Island. As soon as we arrived at Gulf Harbour
we had to have a bio-security check for weeds and seeds on the soles of our shoes. If we
took these to the Island these could potentially harm rare plants.
We were so excited approaching the Island, as many of us hadn’t seen threatened birds
before. Volunteers spoke with us about the vision the Department of Conservation has for
the future survival of the species that live on the island. We learnt heaps about the birds and
plant life.
Excitedly we walked up and down the paths and saw loads of birds, such as bellbirds,
fantails, stitch birds, tui and some people even saw the kokako!
We learnt about Tiritiri Matangi’s feeding programme and how the Island has been predator
free for the last ten years!
We had a well-deserved lunch close to the shop. We were starving. The shop on the Island
did a roaring trade as eager students spent their money on magnets, finger puppets and
Island memorabilia.
We now know what an excellent organisation looks like. Tiritiri Matangi certainly assists with
the survival of the species that live on the Island.
Slowly, and happily we made our way back to the boat. Walking back to the boat we were all
tired but we had such an awesome day.

Water Blast
The last week of term in the Junior School was water-soaked and fun-filled as the Junior
School Student Council ran a series of Water Blasts for each of the year levels.
Monday lunchtime was the turn of the Year 1 and 2 students and they came in droves,
dressed in their togs, clutching their towels and bursting with excitement. Once they were
divided into their teams, they began the first of their activities; zooming down the water slide,
tossing water balloons, splattering monkeys, catapulting water bombs, running with leaky
bottles and squeezing water out of sponges by sitting on them!
Another whistle, another activity – there was so much fun to be had! Throughout lunchtime
there were many delighted squeals, thrilled screams and excited laughs to be heard across
the field. Year 1 and 2 most certainly had a Water Blast!
Wednesday lunchtime was the turn of the Year 3 and 4 students and Thursday the turn of
the Year 5 and 6 students.
A special thanks to all of our fantastic student councillors and to our special Year 6 helpers
for making the last days of our term memorable and fun!
Things to note...
Health Supplies Boxes
Thank you so much to the Junior School families who have donated boxes of health supplies to the Prefect Project! We are very grateful
for all the donations and the Prefect team is looking forward to handing these all over to the Manukau District Health Board.
If you still have boxes at home that you have not handed in yet, we will still be collecting them early next term. In case you have misplaced
the letter that accompanied the box, we are looking for everyday products such as toothbrushes, soap and shampoo to be given out to the
Mansell School community in Papakura. Please bring your boxes to the Junior School office as soon as possible.
Scrapbooking Club - Term 2
Four spaces are available for Year 3-6 children who wish to join the Scrapbooking Club. Classes are held each Wednesday starting in
Week 2 from 3.30pm-4.30pm. The cost is $40 for the term.

Future Problem Solvers - new activity starting in Term 2
Future Problem Solving is a creative and fun process consisting of students solving current and future world issues. It helps students
develop critical, analytical and creative thinking skills, which are vital for future learning.
Hannah Bourke and Yezen Kubba are two students in Year 12 beginning the IB. Over the last few years they have been heavily involved in
the Future Problem Solving programme at Kristin, including representing New Zealand in the USA at the International Championships last
year.
With the support of staff members, Hannah and Yezen have volunteered to introduce this programme to Year 5 and 6 students in the Junior
School. They will host an afterschool Future Problem Solvers’ Club starting in Term 2. If your child is interested in being part of this club,
please register their name with Mrs Kimber in the Junior School Office or email gkimber@kristin.school.nz.
2014 ICAS Online Competition Entries - now optional for Year 3 students
For over 20 years ICAS has taken place each year in schools throughout Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, the Pacific
region and South Africa.
Your child is invited to participate in 2014. This year students in the Junior School will be offered the option of entering for Science, English
and Mathematics.
All students who participate will receive a certificate and an individual student report indicating which questions they answered correctly
and their score compared with the rest of the students tested.

What’s been happening?
Personal Project Exhibition
The MYP Personal Project Exhibition has been on display in the Atrium throughout Week 9
and 10 of Term 1. This coincides with the Personal Project Parent Information Evening and
gives parents coming to parent interviews the opportunity to see the amazing work done
last year. The projects currently on display range from Mangas to busking for charity and
environmental awareness, fitness training programmes to published books and self-built
computers. These displays were the projects that received the highest grades and are
there to inspire the current Year 10s for their future Personal Projects. Everyone in Year 11
should be very proud of their work as they have put a lot of time and effort into their Personal
Projects, displaying creativity, determination, inquiry, passion and perseverance.

Junior Open Debating - Round 3 Report
This round was an ‘advertised debate’. The topic was Facebook and the moot was “This
house believes that Facebook should be banned.”
Kristin 1 had a BYE this round and Kristin 2 won their match by default.
Kristin 3; Daniel Whooley, Joshua Sampson, and Jake Lyons won their debate again
Avondale 2. Congratulations to Josh who was awarded Best Speaker.
Kristin 4; Kate Li, Maddi Sinclair and Anriena Zen won their debate by default but Miss
Casey and Mrs Mansfield organised another Kristin team of substitutes for them to have
a practice debate against. The team of substitutes (Tyra, Sally and Billy) won the practise
debate.
Many thanks to Mrs Mansfield, Miss Casey and the senior students Courtney Dyson,
Matthew Flower and Yezen Kubba who are excellent debate coaches and who were present
to offer their support.

Future Problem Solving Workshop
This week some Year 8 students in 8VJO and 8JMO were given the opportunity to
experience Future Problem Solving with Mrs Mackway-Jones. Students were looking at
futuristic scenarios involving artificial intelligence and robots.
Future Problem Solving is offered as an option at Year 9 and 10 and the students enjoyed
thinking creatively in a futuristic setting.
Later in the year students from other classes in Year 8 will have a taste of future problem solving.
Year 8 Community and Service project –‘Hands Across the Water’
In January, Year 8 student Tom Lewis spent his school holidays at Baan Tharn Namchai Orphanage in Khao Lak, Thailand. BTN is home
to nearly 90 children who lost their parents or are at risk in their communities as a result of the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004. It is supported
by the fast-growing charity, Hands Across The Water. Tom now has a special penpal and sponsors one of the 12 year old boys who lives
there; his name is Gean.

Year 8 students are adopting Hands Across the Water as their charity and some exciting fundraising initiatives are planned for Term 2,
including a ‘Bring n’ Buy’ market in Week 7 to support the beautiful children of Thailand. Students will be running a variety of stalls including
white elephant; second hand clothes, toys, books, games, cuddly toys; food stalls; craft and a number of others. Holiday time is a perfect
opportunity to clear out those cupboards and send your ‘treasures’ to school. We really need your support to make this an exciting venture.
Donations may be left in the Middle School office.

Touch Typing Lessons
After school touch typing lessons, taught by an occupational therapist, will be available during Term 2, 2014 for students in Year 7-10.
Places are limited. The lessons are available on either, Monday, Tuesday or Friday afternoons, immediately after school, and run for 45
minutes. he course runs for 7 weeks and costs $210 per student. o register, please contact Middle School reception to leave your child’s

What’s been happening?
Duke of Edinburgh Silver Tramp
The 28 March saw the Duke of Edinburgh Silver participants arrive at Kristin on a cold
Friday morning for a 2 hour bus ride to the Karangahaki Gorge. Our arrival at a misty
gorge was welcomed after a sunny bus ride through the Waikato, and we set off across the
swing bridges and through the mining tunnels. After a journey through NZ’s mining history
we arrived at the lunch stop alongside the first river crossing, the hot sun saw some of us
venturing upstream into the deeper water, before we hit our first climb of the tramp. The
climb was a test of our endurance, as the gradient changed regularly from steep uphill to
slanting paths and continued on for over a kilometre. The hill spaced out the groups of
walkers, and the sight of the hut was a relief for everyone.
After a night’s sleep we woke ready to continue on our three-day journey through the Kaimai
Ranges, and a less demanding morning walk was an exciting prospect for tired legs. Swing
bridges and river crossings helped to break up the walk, and walking along old forestry
tracks was a good way to warm up. The lunch stop at a new DOC hut provided the perfect
opportunity for us to get the cookers back out and cook some noodles. The well-equipped
hut was the perfect rest spot from the heat of the day, and as we set off to face the technical,
less walked route to the overnight stop, we were glad to have had a break. The track
became much more demanding with short and steep climbs, vines and river crossings
testing our endurance and patience. As we arrived at the campsite we prepared our tent,
found firewood and constructed a small dam to swim in. The day’s walk had taken its toll
on everyone, and after a swim it was time to get a fire started, the perfect time to share
embarrassing stories and events.
The final day’s walk consisted of a large uphill right out of the campsite, but we all had
the energy to reach the top as we knew that the final sprint to the finish point, a farm near
Waihi, was all downhill. A lunch stop to finish off what was left of our food was next, before
we started on the forestry road towards the farm. A swim in the warm water beside the farm
refreshed those of us who ventured in, before it was back onto the bus and to Auckland.
This tramp was very different to the previous tramps in the Waitakere Ranges, the bush was
much denser and the relief of the land made it far more technical and physically demanding.
We all enjoyed the challenge that the Kaimai Ranges offered, and the additional benefit of
the crystal clear water to swim in after a tramp, though the stunning weather made the tramp
all the more enjoyable.

Window on CAS: Organising and Completing a First Aid
Course
For my CAS project I organised for First Training instructors to come to Kristin School and
run a first aid course for senior students. On the day, twenty-five students received expert
knowledge on how to provide first aid should the need ever arise. This was more than just
applying band-aids and giving CPR, but encompassed everything from accident scene
management, asking the right questions, emergency solutions and mouth to mouth practice

(on CPR simulation dolls with the necessary face protectors of course)! All and all it was great
fun; I got to be dowsed in fake blood as we practiced applying our knowledge to a range of
situations. I came away from the course feeling confident that I could now provide some useful
first aid skills in an emergency should I ever need to, and indeed I actually feel a bit bad as I
didn’t quite realise how utterly unprepared and useless I would have been before the course.

Winter Uniform Reminder for Next Term
Senior School students are reminded that they are to wear winter uniform in Term 2 and 3. The
regulations relating to the wearing of winter uniform can be found on pages 16-18 of the Senior
School Diary. Your support in helping the school maintain high standards of uniform dress is
appreciated:
1.
General requirements: shirts are to be tucked in, ties done up, shoes clean.
2.
Blazers must be worn in Term 2 and 3:
a. To and from school
b. For all school trips
c. For all assemblies
d. Other specified formal occasions.
3.
Hair must be styled conservatively and not draw undue attention. It must be well groomed and tied back if it is longer than collar length
with a hair tie in school colours (white, navy or mallard green). Boys must be clean shaven.
4.
You may only wear a watch or a Medic-Alert bracelet. A single pair of plain silver or gold studs worn in the lobe only of each ear
(i.e. one only in each ear).
5.
Make-up and coloured nail polish are not permitted.
Students who arrive at school incorrectly dressed are likely to be withheld from class until the fault is remedied.
Assessment results available on myChild
Parents are reminded that they can access their child’s Term 1 assessment results by logging onto myChild via the Kristin website. In
most instances, faculty staff will publish moderated assessment results within two weeks of the assessment’s submission date.

The November 2014 IB and NCEA examination timetables are now accessible for download from myChild and from the Kristin website

Operation Quiz Night
The time for the annual Kristin Quiz Night is here again. This year the Prefect team has chosen to partner up with Mana Kidz, the
Middlemore Foundation and the Manukau District Health Board to help implement their new project of medical clinics in schools. They hope
to target Rheumatic Fever, an illness that can affect a child for life.
To raise money for this cause, the annual Quiz Night will be held on the Saturday 10 May in the Year 13 Common Room. The event will
commence at 7pm and tickets are $45 each. The theme for the night will be “Operation Quiz Night”.
All Kristin families have been emailed a ticket order form and we encourage you to fill this out and return it to school as soon as possible.

to 32 people, the Kristin Lodge is a great base camp for all activities centred in the Tongariro area. A number of improvements have been
made to the facility over the past 12 months so it is ready for the upcoming winter season.

What’s been happening?
Term 1 Dance Wrap
After school dance groups from the Middle and Senior Schools have concluded a successful
term of lessons. The performing arts and dance studios have been pumping with lessons, in
a vast array of styles, every afternoon of the week:
Year 9 and 10
Year 9 and 10 lyrical dancers have been training intensively to produce a performance for the Middle School Easter and Foundation Day
Service. The dance features complex patterns of movement and duets that the students have helped to choreograph themselves. Named
‘Freedom’ the piece represents the freedom that comes from placing your faith in love and God. They have enjoyed learning from their tutor
Jessie McCall, and are already looking forward to their next performance in Dance in the Dove, in Term 3.
Meanwhile on Fridays, an energetic group of Year 9 and 10s have been gathering to learn hip hop. You would never guess that these
students had just concluded a long week at school - their energy, precision, and sense of fun have all impressed their tutor Lona Mafaufau.
Watch out for big things from this group next term!
Boyz Crew
Speaking of energy, you can’t go past the MS Boyz Crew who also rehearse on Fridays with Lona. Fast footwork, body isolations, popping,
acrobatics and freestyle have all featured in this class that focuses on cool moves and styling.
Year 7 and 8
Running on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, there is no escape from dance with this keen bunch of students. The Tuesday class
are enjoying learning a range of street jazz combos from tutor Hamish Mouat; the Wednesday and Thursday classes are taught by Melana
Khabazi. On Wednesday, we’ve seen impressive footwork and tricks and even some partner work with lifts! The Thursday group have been
firing through sets of self-choreography and learning contemporary technique.
Junior School
Our youngest dancers from the Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 have explored the sea, becoming crashing waves, delicate and expressive
sea creatures, and all with the use of wonderful props and music. They have also learned about how to create imaginative still shapes, how
to balance on one foot, and different ways of travelling around the room. The Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 dancers have explored even further, loving
the different journeys that they get to explore each week. Extensions, leaps and twirls have featured strongly amongst these groups as they
grow in confidence to express themselves through dance. Junior School tutors, Clare Battersby and Rose Philpott have thoroughly enjoyed
witnessing the enthusiasm and joy that these young dancers bring to their lessons every week..

What’s been happening?
Southwell Summer Sports Exchange
This year’s summer exchange with Southwell School from Hamilton was held at Kristin on a
beautiful sunny day. Our Junior teams experienced and showed great sportsmanship, learnt
new skills and hosting etiquitte and had lots of fun with our visitors from Southwell.
The results were an 8-0 win for our two Tennis teams, a 0-3 loss for the Touch team and a
hard-fought win for the Cricket boys.
The Cricket was played using Kiwi Cricket rules, which aim to develop more players
and provide and environment in which all players gain more time at the crease and the
opportunity to bowl.
It has been encouraging to see this team develop under the keen eye of Richard Harle
and to see them train with passion and interest. It was a superb result which reflected the
team’s hard work, winning the game by four runs. A prior cricket agreement ruled us out of
contention for the cricket component of the Kristin vs Southwell Cup, but we can be proud
that the overall result was a draw with one win to each school for tennis and touch.

Held at Kristin this year, a beautiful day and setting for our junior teams to learn some

Many thanks to parent coaches Richard Harle and Carla Holgate. Their energy and love
of sport, combined with the time put in to train their respective teams, resulted in a most
enjoyable day for players and staff. Thanks also to the Sport Managers and Grounds Staff
for their expertise.
Auckland Secondary Schools Orienteering Sprint Finals
Following six weeks of qualifying rounds across five different Auckland zones and against
over 1000 students, seven Kristin students contested the AKSS Orienteering Sprint finals.
With a diminished team due to injury, our runners were ready for the challenge.
The event was held at two consecutive venues, Saint Kentigern College in the morning and
Orewa College in the afternoon and the times of the runners were combined for an overall
score.

New Zealand Athletics Track and Field Results
Congratulations to Grace Steele and Hannah Lunday for their excellent achievements at the
recent New Zealand Athletics Track and Field Champs, held in Wellington.
Grace placed 1st in the Women’s Polevault Youth (U18) and 2nd in the Women’s Junior
(U20) events.
Hannah was 2nd in the Youth (U18) and 4th in the Junior (U20) event. These are
outstanding results for both girls.
New Zealand Water Polo Selection
A massive congratulations to Henry Dick who has been selected to represent New Zealand
Water Polo in the U16 Division of the annual Hawaiian tournament in August. Henry was selected into the A team from a group of over 35
players which is an unbelievable achievement.
Gymsports
Congratulations to Ethan and Sam Dick who competed at the Queensland State Gymsports Championships recently.
Ethan performed superbly, taking out the Gold medal and title of Queensland State Level 8 Open Champion.
Day one of the competition was for All Around honours (highest score over all six apparatus) and day two of the competition was for
individual apparatus placings. Ethan won Gold on Pommel, Bronze on Floor and Rings and was 4th on Vault.
Sam competed in this, his first international competition at Level 8, which is one level up from where he usually competes, in order to
gain valuable experience. He performed superbly, picking up a Bronze medal on High Bar and finishing 11th overall, an excellent result
considering he was the youngest in a field of 20.

Tennis
Congratulations to the Premier Boys and Girls’ Tennis teams on winning their respective Auckland A3 Competitions this term. The girls
overpowered Diocesan in the final on Saturday winning 8-1, while the boys won their round-robin match 9-0 against St Peter’s on Saturday
to secure top position and win their grade. Special mention also to Kristin’s other boys’ team who are on the rise! They finished 3rd in the
same A3 competition and pushed the Premier team to the brink of defeat in their encounter, narrowly losing 5-4.
Tennis is beginning to grow at Kristin with teams taking part in the Monday afternoon competition and coaching sessions available with our
Beginner’s Programme and also through Junior School Tennis. If you are new to Kristin and interested in getting involved in Kristin Tennis

Cricket
The Kristin 1st XI Boys have had a successful season to date and are well placed to compete for the Auckland Premier B Grade
Championship in Term 4. They were undefeated in their five round-robin matches, gaining qualification into the Championship Grade. Since
then they have had one match rained out against St Peter’s and lost their match with Auckland Grammar, falling 70 runs short in the run
chase.
The Premier Colts have had an enjoyable term of Cricket. Results have been secondary to the development of the players and banter
between the team! One of the season highlights to date was the Fathers vs Sons game (now becoming tradition) held on Sunday 30 March
in which the fathers were still able to dish out a lesson to their sons!

Water Polo Finals
The Premier Girls’ Water Polo team have reached the final of the Auckland wide competition after beating Diocesan Girls on penalties last
Friday.
The final will be played at Diocesan Aquatic Centre at 7pm on Friday 11 April against Rangitoto College.

Snowplanet April Holiday Programme
Snowplanet are running daily, two-hour lessons on the snow, for the first week of the holidays. Monday 14 to Thursday 17 April, 10am-2pm.
Students should meet at Snowplanet at 9.40am each day, ready to go at 9.55am. Cost: $210 for Snowplanet Pass Holders or $250 Non
Pass Holders.

Miniball Holiday Programme
Our Kristin coach, Norm, will be running his holiday programme in the Roy Munn Gymnasium on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 April (first
week of the school holidays).
The programme runs from 9am-1pm and focuses on skills, drills, games and FUN! It is open to all Junior School students whether
experienced or new to the sport.

Mt Ruapehu Snowsports Weekends Term 3
Due to popular demand, we have allocated two weekends to the Mt Ruapehu programme:
Year 4-6: Friday 15 August - Sunday 17 August
Year 7-13: Friday 29 August - Sunday 31 August
Come along and have a ‘fun weekend’ on the slopes. We cater for all skill levels and interests whether it be skiing or snowboarding.
