Morton. She is a performing
songwriter who has delighted
audiences throughout the New
York metropolitan area. Her
abundant charm and humorous songs of social commentary will keep you laughing andf tug at your heartstrings
simultaneously. Reinventing herself in retirement, Lois has
gone from being an educator and therapist to a singersongwriter with a rapier wit and a surprisingly contemporary approach. Her show “As I See It” highlights Lois’
original, often hilarious songs which encourage us to laugh
at ourselves. She has released two CDs of original songs –
As I See It and 20th Century Girl. Free tickets are available at the Circulation Desk.

Melissa Maravell will be performing music from the
American Holiday Songbook. Free tickets will be available

Holiday Greenery Workshop

Floral Designer Phyllis Chan Carr will show you how to
create this holiday decoration using assorted mixed greens.
Bring a small pair of lightweight garden shears or heavy scissors, garden gloves and a wire hanger. There is a $12 supply
fee for the workshop. You will go home with a 10 - 12-inch
kissing ball to hang outdoors. In-person registration required.

History will discuss the techniques used in
persuading the American public that the War
would “make the world safe for democracy”
and how the American psyche was impacted after the war.

You will find a wealth of information in the Veteran’s Center

We now have Alternative Exemption from Real Property
Taxation forms available.
“New York State Real Property Tax Law, section 458-a,
provides a limited exemption from real property taxes owned
by persons who rendered military service to the United
States, provided such property meets requirements set forth
in the law.”
Also on display from November 10th - 14th is a collection
of published war stories from local veterans who are now
members of the American Legion Post 694. Veteran Bill
Amadio has compiled this collection of articles from various sources, including the Town of Huntington Oral History
Project, and the Northport Observer.
How the JFK Assassination Changed
the Constitution

The assassination of President John F. Kennedy fifty-one
years ago was a defining moment in American history. Yet the
story of how JFK’s untimely death led to a change in the U.S.
Constitution is less well known. In this discussion Professor
James Coll will examine constitutional provisions dealing with
a premature vacancy in the presidency and legal changes
over time in the order of presidential succession. This program is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters and

The color photos showcase the florals in

of their color you are able to appreciate the beautiful details,
whether they are in full bloom or past their prime.
Pet Portrait Artist
Beth Weiner Lipson
Beth Weiner Lipson has
been a professional artist for
over 30 years, having first begun her career as a children’s
book author/illustrator. Her
artwork has also appeared on
book jackets, jigsaw puzzles
and in several magazines.
She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI), Huntington Arts Council, and Art League of Huntington. Beth is
also involved with several pet rescue organizations where she
donates pet portrait gift certificates as raffle prizes. Beth’s pet
portraits as well as gift items will be available at this year’s
Friends Holiday Craft Fair on November 7th & 8th.

Home Alone is a program designed to help young teens
navigate situations that may occur between the time they arrive
home from camp or school and the time when their parents
return home from work. This free, fun multi-media program is
presented by staff from YDA, your local community and youth
agency which has been serving our community for over 40

The 5-hour pre-licensing class is required by the NY State
Department of Motor Vehicles for all students who would like
to schedule a road test. The fee for this class is $45 (cash only,
and exact change is appreciated.) The class will be taught by an
instructor from a local driving school and is open to anyone ages
16 and up. You must bring your NY State Learner’s Permit to
class. In-person registration is required at the Young Adult Desk.
High School Employment Workshop

Children will participate in creative play using a variety of
toys including blocks, puzzles, puppets, play kitchen and dress
up which will be set up throughout the room. The program will
conclude with a circle time of songs and a story. Registration
begins Monday, November 17th. Siblings are welcome.
Puzzle Time
Children can spend 20 minutes reading to a teen volunteer
or listening to stories read by a teen volunteer. This is a great
opportunity for children to practice their reading in a comfortable setting with the help of a teen volunteer or just enjoy
listening to their favorite stories. Please call to register for
your 20-minute session.
Study Buddies
Children 12- to 35-months-old and a caregiver

Puzzles, puzzles everywhere! Children will enjoy a variety of
stories and playing with puzzles of all shapes and sizes. Each

A few dedicated volunteers in our community are

working with the Helping Hand Rescue Mission in HunHoliday Gift Giving tington to provide gifts and necessities to local children in
need. We are collecting donations of new gifts for children
ages 5 to 12-years-old that will fit in shoeboxes. We also
need empty shoeboxes and volunteers to wrap at 11 AM on
Friday, December 12th. Please bring wrapping paper and
tape and join us for a wrapping party in the Library Meeting Room! A collection bin will be in
the Library Lobby through December 12th.
Suggested gifts are: playing cards, hair clips, hair scrunchies, soft toys, teddy bears, dolls,
craft kits, small games, necklaces, school supplies, Play Dough, hats, jump rope, Matchbox
cars, solar calculators, flashlights and extra batteries, harmonicas, T-shirts, socks, sunglasses,
watches, stamping kits, etc. No liquids, lotions, medications, aerosol cans, breakable
items, chocolate, food or toy guns.
