You made us happy; maybe sometimes a little sadBut you are still the best friend we ever hadI loved the way your gray hair glittered in the sun,
In the late afternoon when your long day work was done;
We remember how you use to laugh and chuckle loud
You were so precious and so proud;
You always had good advice for the young folks
Whether school, religion, conduct or sports;
Our friends and neighbors tell me they miss you so
We all miss you: We sure hated to see you go,
But we will meet again on land or in the sky
Where there will be no more sorrow and no more good by!

A MOTHER’S DAY POEM

TO OUR BELOVED MOTHER: Mrs. Lillie McAllister Stewart
Presented to Mama on Mot her’s Day, May 9, 2003 by daughters;
Alice Faye, Brenda Delores, Doris Kay and Ella Joyce
She washed on a washboard……Cooked on a wood stove;
Cleaned the outhouse, Set traps for the mouse
Gathered off the wood pile, walked a country mile
To the tobacco field, then back to cook the midday meal,
Mama worked side by side her man, never known to complain;
Nursed babies, slopped hogs…canned vegetables in mason jars;
Pulled plants, chopped cotton, listened to the Grand Ole Opry;
Huh! As if there was ever time….with all those chores to grime?!?
She churned butter, went fishing, sewn dresses, did quilting;
Filled oven with sweet potatoes …found time to burp the baby,
Cooked beans, Chicken pastry, biscuits, steak and gravy
Potatoes pudding, meat loaf too, collard greens and fish stew
