In
I’m Free
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free.
I’m following the path God has laid, you see.
I took His hand when I heard His call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found the peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joys.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Oh yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish to you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts, and peace to thee.
God wanted me now, He set me free.

Percy Daniel Daoust was born to Leon & Sadie Daoust in
Estevan, Saskatchewan on September 1, 1944. He grew up on
a farm near Torquay, Saskatchewan, where he attended
school. In his late teens, Percy moved to B.C. for a few years
and lived with his uncle while he took some schooling, and
his welding training. Then he returned to Estevan, where he
started working as a welder for SaskPower.
In 1967, he met Kathy Meckler, whom he married on August
3, 1968. Percy & Kathy had four children, a son Paul (1969),
a son Brent (1971-stillborn), a daughter Nadine (1972) and
another daughter Taryn (1976).
Through the years, Percy became a foreman and IBEW union
representative for SaskPower. In 1990, Percy was transferred
to work in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. He continued to work
there until he retired in 1996.
Besides the union, Percy belonged to the Lions Club in
Nipawin, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and
was President of the Metis Local #134 Nipawin at his time of
passing.
Percy enjoyed a myriad of hobbies. In his younger years, in
Estevan, he enjoyed golfing on a regular basis. But his true
passions were hunting and fishing. So much, in fact, that he
started his own little fish hook business, “Daoust Tackle” after
he retired. Every year, Percy went on a hunting trip, whether
it was for moose, elk or deer. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors.
Like most of the Daoust clan, he also loved to be around and
spend time with lots of family.
Percy is predeceased by his father Leon Daoust, mother Sadie
Daoust, son Brent Daoust, brother Gaylord Daoust, and his
sister and two brothers who passed as babies.
Percy is survived by his wife Kathy, his three children: Paul
(Sylvia) Daoust, Nadine (Eldon) Copeland, and Taryn (Chris)
Coulthard; his grandchildren Nicholas & Anna Daoust,
Kaitlin & Morgan Copeland, and Mikayla, Savanna & Kendyl
Coulthard.
