Steps up to the Smokefree United Challenge
On Thursday 17th December, Millwall took part in a penalty shoot-out against
some fans and local Lewisham NHS Stop Smoking Advisors to determine the
winner of the Smokefree United Challenge.
Held at the training ground in Bromley,
players had their skills tested to
the limit as they attempted to kick
a football through a small opening
in the six-foot high, eight-foot wide
Smokefree United goal board. Millwall
and the fans were each given just three
minutes to score as many penalties as
possible.
David Forde, Scott Barron, Zak
Whitbred, Danny Sendar and John
Sullivan won the penalty shootout 7-2.
David Selwood won the Smokefree
United competition to play against
his team. He said “Being selected to
take part in the Smokefree United
Challenge with the Millwall players
was a dream come true. It was great to
have a kick about with the team. Neil
Harris was the player who gave me
the inspiration to stop smoking and
get into fitness and football. I now play
football every week with Brenchley
Football Club and my life is so much
better.”
Smokefree United is a virtual club
of quitters that provides coaching
and support to help football fans and
players to stop smoking, www.nhs.

Lone Ranger back with his Posse
Tony Craig was back in
training just two weeks
after surgery on the facial
injury he suffered against
Wycombe Wanderers on
21st November.
Thanks to the protective
‘Lone Ranger’ mask
supplied by Cavendish
Imaging in Wimpole
Street, Tony was able
to return to first team
action at Charlton some
four weeks sooner than
otherwise would have
been expected after
having his cheekbone
and eye socket fractured.
Physio Bobby Bacic said:
“We’re very grateful to
Cavendish Imaging who
made this mask specially
for Tony. It was great to
see him out there at The
Valley, and some of the
lads think it’s improved
his looks.”
