Topflight, as exclusive travel partners to Mountaineering
Ireland, has planned a trip for Mountaineering Ireland
members from the 15th to 22nd March 2014.
We are heading to Austria in the Gastein Valley and to the
spa town of Bad Hofgastein, just 1 hour 15 mins from
Salzburg Airport in the Salzburgerland region of Austria.
Bad Hofgastein is not just a ski resort, it is a thriving market
town and the historical centre of the Gastein Valley, located
in the broadest and sunniest point of the valley. The town
itself has a huge choice of restaurants and bars, as well as
great shops and is well known for its world famous healing
thermal spas and caves.
A spa town and valley, yes, and also one of the largest ski areas
in Austria with over 200kms on your Ski Amade Ski pass. Bad
Hofgastein is recognised as one of the top spa resorts in
Europe and is one of the most beautiful holiday resorts in the
province of Salzburg.
This valley is part of the Hohe Tauen National Park, and with
over 200kms of marked ski piste, as well as expansive
backcountry areas for freeriding, ski mountaineering and ski
touring routes, snow-shoeing and winter hiking routes, as
well as cross country/biathlon. There is a permanent Race
Hill and Ice Climbing/Ice Falls.
Sportgastein, itself, the southernmost ski area of the valley,
spans almost 2,700 vertical metres, offering perfect off-piste
opportunities.

This trip is designed for Individuals and for Clubs. Topflight, as
Ireland’s leading ski tour operator, can offer you whatever you need
to make this Snowsports Week a fantastic event.
Experienced skiers, snowboarders, ski mountaineers and freestylers
can enjoy the on-piste and off piste runs of the Gastein Valley. Yet
beginners will be very well catered for at the Angertal Ski Centre in
the heart of this valley. And there is a huge range of routes for
winter hiking!

As a thermal spa valley, this area is famous for sportspeople – and
health.
Take a trip to the Alpentherme Public Spa, just metres from your
hotel – and avail of a Full Medical Sports Check in their Sports
Medicine and Analysis Centre – only €97 including lactic acid and

You can also take a taster session at the Heilstollen Healing Cave
during your week here for just €27 – at 4pm on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. The treatments here benefit anyone with asthma,
arthritis, fibromyalgia, and other complaints like skin disorders, as

At the Sportgastein station located at the valley floor – you can train
at any time, free of charge and in lifelike conditions with this state-ofthe-art avalanche search & rescue training area.
